He talked to Evan Daniels on the phone and w/e it was that made him change his pick to undecided didn’t sound like good news for UK but that he still could choose UK. Said he wouldn’t say what Daniels told him that made him switch his pick. Also said that if EJ hears that he can get a 2 year deal even with being a 2nd round pick that he would most likely leave.

Wow. EJ that unhappy here? That would be a mistake in my opinion.

Good luck to him if that’s the case.

Tough to get into these young men’s head-I might not get much time at UK with all the players they have coming back so I’m gonna go to the NBA and earn my way into the rotation?

If he’d stay one more year and do everything that Cal and company is asking of him + all the extra stuff the great ones do, he’d easily be in the first round next year. His upside is tremendous, his size could easily land him in the lottery if he’s willing to put in the effort to get the needed results.

To me it’s more of a sure thing. I come back one year and work my tail off and I’m a guaranteed lotto pick.

Of course there’s always the chance of injury. But I mean if he signs an agent and declares, that’s pretty much it. He’s going to get PT next year. If we land McDaniels and/or Blackshear I could see Richards transferring.

EJ is an outstanding potential talent. The problem is he hasn’t proven a lot yet. And the NBA scouts obviously want a little more proof.

Tom Brady is by far the worst thing to happen to some of these kids ever. “Well he was like a 6th rounder and look what happened.” Yeah. But that’s Tom Brady. And that’s a once in a generation fluke. Very very very rarely does a low draft pick ever become mega successful.

EJ needs to do the right thing for the long run and come back.

Technically he didn’t switch his pick. I don’t buy the Washington talk, never have. He would of committed months ago if that were the case.

I’m being a Scrooge - I know - but there’s a very real chance we miss in all three front court options.

That’d put the narrative right back in Cal’s lap as he’d have another imbalanced, incomplete roster.

I’ll happily eat crow if not, but I don’t like the way this is trending.

Hedge your bets.. Call both players right now and say minutes at the 4 are yours if you want it.. Last player to decide can go figure out their future on their own.

Not saying they are waiting on the other one.. But why take the risk? Fill the team, make sure we don't lose both. If one is left saying "but but, I didn't decide yet".. Oh well.

I said change his pick to undecided in the 1st sentence. I agree though. Still think it’s UK

McDaniels has nothing to do with Blackshear one is a stretch 4 to 3 and one is a 5

Cal should tell him to make up his mind cause it affects others decisions! If he doesn’t come it could make room for Hampton to come and for to play guard lineup and go even more small ball next year!

I don’t think we’re getting Hampton no matter what. Had Hagans gone pro or if Hampton had stayed in 2020 class, I think he would be a UK lock. Sucks but is what it is

Hopkins and Washington tried to make a strong push for Mcdaniels and Stewart to commit together..

EJ is who I am talking about. And he himself is not a traditional 5. He's a stretch 5, at MOST, but can easily play the 4, and that's what he'd play in the NBA.

Too much is made on strict positions, not enough on minutes on touches. McDaniels and EJ's roles and abilities do overlap a bit. Maybe they aren't waiting on each other, but why risk it? Let them both fight for it now instead of possibly losing both.

I'll add that it might not be SPECIFICALLY either player scaring off the other.. but may be more of the total collection., as in.. maybe for EJ, McDaniels means just too much incoming talent that taking his chances in the NBA is better.. and vice versa.. maybe McDaniels feels if EJ comes abck, might not be enough to go around.

Lol guaranteed two year contract as a second round pick. Honestly, if that's EJ's line of thinking, not sure we should really want him to stick around anyway. That's just absurd.
I don’t think EJ Montgomery wants to manage your finances. What do you really know about his?

Was supposed to be that big time 5 star lineman from Michigan. He was considered a UK lock until Saban called him personally. We’ll see what happens

That unhappy? a second round guarantee usually makes these kids a millionaire.

A second round pick doesn’t guarantee you squat. Sure some have made money from there but it’s not a guarantee. Usually they don’t even get a one year contact let alone a two year one. It’s just not the smartest of moves in my opinion.

Come back. Work hard. And be a a guaranteed lotto pick worth MULTI-millions.

Just unreal if EJ stays in the draft to be a 2nd round pick.

Struggle in college and you think you're going to stick around a league full of grown men?
It is truly a "new normal" of basketball players in this era that is hard to get used to. I honestly think Nick has more future upside due to this size and good touch shooting the ball.

For all the crap Richards catches he can shoot. He’s hit mid range jumpers that I thought had NO prayer going in. He’s pretty good from the line too. Just need him to get angry and be a beast down low. He does that? He will be a first round pick.

Ok well blackshear was never coming here so idk how that counts as a miss. McDaniels will commit and EJ I think is close to a toss up but IMO it’s more likely he’s back that not
