I wish the kid the best. That said, he and Keldon are the type of one and done UK needs to avoid. One mediocre season then leaves.

Mediocre?

Herro played over his head. Johnson performed about as expected if you take the Rafters histeromania out of it. The team performed better than every team team in the country save 4.

There is no mediocre here. You’d have to be a CLOD or a troll from another team to believe that.

They did very little to warrant leaving after a season you’re the one who’s delusional

I gotta say, it seems kinda messed up to me to be doing this stuff before you've even been drafted.
WTF?

You know, Tyler, you might wanna delay gloating about your money until after you actually have it. Or, perhaps maybe even follow the lead of some past down-to-Earth NBA stars like Tim Duncan and Larry Bird by not doing that gloating at all.
I love the story of Larry Bird out cutting his grass during his rookie season.

But hey, they’ll have nice cars to drive around. It will just be sad about 10 years later when the money runs out and they are driving those cars around with windows that don’t go up or down anymore because they can’t afford to fix it.

Who am I kidding. I wish I could buy an expensive car.

I would have done the same exact thing at their age. Only now I’m 35. First thing I’d buy now? I’d pay off a house. Wonder how much value these cars lost as soon as they rolled off the lot.

Let them enjoy. They will still have experienced most never get. They paid the price now it’s time to have a little fun.

they have a Ferrari engine but by rule it’s tuned down to below Ferrari spec. I agree there are better cars. He probably got this one from the agent as an incentive to “consider all his draft options”. It’s a good time for them. They worked hard this year and now they can have a little fun.

You're right. They're 19 and have been putting in countless hours of hard work. Enjoy it. But a Maserati? Nobody I know whos 19 or when I was 19 ever lusted over that car. It was Mercedes, BMW and then the super car brands. I wouldve guessed a Porsche or ferrari or audi r8 but what do I know. Hope he enjoys it.

Go ahead and throw me in the crowd that’s proud of the kid. He came here to reach his best potential and have an opportunity to make it to the nba. These kids are one injury away from losing their dreams for the rest of their life.

He said he’s decided to go pro no matter what and he worked his *** off to get where he did this year. If he continues to bust his *** (he will), it won’t matter what kind of car he drives to practice.

Congrats Tyler!!! Pursue your dreams kid!

You guys realize that it has 12k miles and is probably a Ghibli?

Meaning even if he didn't rent it (which he may have), that's like a 25k purchase, iow a 5k down payment.

Definitely not how I would spend my money, but the idea that he must've gone wild to have made a purchase like that is silly.

What if he went to the combine and they find something like CJ Conrad and he can never play again? I’m happy for Tyler and hope he has a great career, but I would hate to be indebted to an agent.

Bash away so here goes; what the mission statement of this program? Is it about draft picks, max contracts, individual accolades? Is it the type or style of car the kids buy? And then please answer me as to this question. When did we take our eye off the prize? Each year we begin the year with what as our goal? Is it that Nick Richards gets that Mini Cooper he desires? Tyler gets the Maserati? Cal gets 4 lottery picks? D: none of the above. It’s about banners, it’s about titles, it’s about parades and couch burning and taking our place atop the mountain of college basketball. Basketball is a team game. We win we lose as a team. All the individual awards, gifts, purchases don’t mean **** to me. And don’t @ me with the billy Gillespie ********. At the end of the Calipari era we will see a lot of wins, a lot of deep runs, surely a lot of draft picks because of course they matter but if we see 1 or 2 titles over a 15-20 year career then are you satisfied? And on another note. I love DeMarcus Cousins but the dude was here 8 months. Mel Turpin was here 4 years, doesn’t he deserve H of F before Boogie? And there are others as well. Ok I have my armor on, bash me

I love the story of Larry Bird out cutting his grass during his rookie season.

There were lots of of stories like that about Bird his first few years in the League. Apparently people in his neighborhood used to line the streets to watch the world's most famous basketball player doing all his own house repairs and yard work. And also for the way he dressed, still going around in ratty old jeans and a tee shirt when he was one of richest athletes in the word.

He was just a very very different type of dude than today's NBA stars.

Nothing wrong with enjoying the fruits of your labor. He's worked hard to put himself in the position he's in. Congrats to him. I'm not going to sit here and whine because he didn't give me bragging rights over my friends.

I’ll be glad when OAD is over and done with. That said, herro for sure and Johnson likely would be here at a 2 yr minimum. Cal branded U.K. as OAD factory where players can be prepared in 9 months. Unfortunately, this one of those years where the draft class sucks. Being a U.K. fan cam be a be a blessing and a curse. Like most, i fully expected herro to return, this will sting for a while

Doubt Johnson was with Whitney coming in! And the quality of the game is going to take a big hit unless the NBA puts a restriction on how many can go straight to the league

It does seem silly rushing to make a pretty substantial purchase without even having a contract. Next thing you know they will be buying a million dollar home plus giving money to their family. By the time they get their first paycheck, pay their taxes, union dues, and agent fees they will already be running low on money. If they don't impress there is no guarantee they get any money beyond their second year.

They'd be better off living conservatively until they get that 2nd contract (if they do). It would be different if you are a player like Zion who will have a load of Nike cash before his first game. I just don't know what kind of endorsement deals players like Herro and Johnson might get if any.

Maybe common sense with money only comes with age and these guys might have to learn the hard way.

Really? Well, the NBA who drafts on talent and not necessarily performance (see Skal) seems to differ. Considering they are the ones that decide. . . Maybe all the NBA is delusional. That what you are saying?

After the year he had? You truly thought he would return? I figured no chance, though I'm surprised he made a final decision quite so early.

I played quite a few games on their field, if it isn't near Lynn Camp Creek then they either moved the field or renamed the creek. I doubt if they moved the creek. It ended up in Laurel River. Read somewhere that cities in Kentucky couldn't be in multiple counties, sounded weird to me, Corbin was known as the Tri County city, Laurel, Whitley, and Knox counties meet there. One of Lynn Camp creeks major "tributaries" was Spider Creek, you probably never heard of it either, lol. US25 split into US25E and 25W in North Corbin, and 25E split off from 25 going east, crossing over the Lynn Camp Bridge the first thing it did. Bypassed by several other routes, the main one split off at Colonel Sanders court IIRC, although I think he moved to Cumberland Falls Road later.

Before, moving to Florida for quite a few years until the heat got off, then he came back and hit the road selling Kentucky Fried Chicken.

I didn’t say the team was mediocre. Tyler was bad the 1/3 of the season, really good most of the last part but was a bust in the tournament. That’s pretty average. We need to get someone better or keep a guy like Tyler 2 years.

Not sure I lost my license and now I can't drive.

That must be tough, I can't imagine life without being able to drive where you need to go, or even just want to go. But all kinds of people risk losing their license every day. I bet you will value it a lot more if/when you get it back.

I couldn't believe it when a guy I was in the Army with that was from the Bronx couldn't drive, he said very few young people owned cars there then, you couldn't afford the parking.

Kid wasn’t gonna sit back and watch both PJ and Keldon buy expensive cars without making an irrational decision. All 3 of them are dudes who may not even make a second contract in the NBA.

They will make 50+ years of an average persons salary when they sign their first contract. I don't think they are too worried .

Not making good financial decisions already. If you are going to spend Maserati money you might as well go ahead and spend a little more and get the Ferrari. Better car and much better at holding its value. These kids never learn.
This.

If the first thing you want to do is buy a Maserati, well, your not off to a good start financially.

Oh well, glad to see that Tyler has gotten over the hard decision to leave Kentucky. Maybe buying a Maserati will make him forget the goose egg he laid in the second half against Auburn.

Noticed several posters talk about all the 'hard work'..'countless hours of hard work'. ??? Was anybody here 19 at one time and playing ball? Yeah, you work...you get tied..sore, etc. But don't make it out like it was Moses making bricks for the Pharoah (a little nod to the season). It was/is fun. NOW...if I was doing it at my age now....

Yikes! Where is the Sheray Thomas' and Bobby Perry's been?

I love that this is always the extreme rebuttal, ignoring the Villanova, Virginia, UNC, etc teams who are successful with vets. Yeah, you “totally can’t win without being loaded with second tier one and dones.”
