"Stadium’s Jeff Goodman Tweeted Thursday that Martin is a “key target” for the open job at Cincinnati. While the name is intriguing — Martin was a Bearcats assistant coach for two years — at this point it doesn’t appear South Carolina has anything to worry about.

Martin has repeatedly said that he and his family are happy at USC, although he’s never been shy at stating his wish for more support from his fans, and the numbers don’t seem to work out. The Bearcats are seeking a replacement for Mick Cronin, a Cincinnati alum who was making $2.2 million in his 13th year at the helm.

Martin made $2.9 million at USC last season, and that will rise to $3 million in 2019-20. He would also owe USC $1 million if he were to leave.

“My intentions, my goal is to keep building this program here,” Martin said at his season wrapup press conference in late March. “If I wanted to leave because I wasn’t happy here, you think I’d do it this year or you think I’d have done it after the Final Four?”

Would be a terrible move on his part

100% agree. Absolutely terrible. The man took South Carolina to a freaking final four. His next move should be UP if he moves at all. I think he has to still show something to be a viable higher for an upper echelon team but why he would capitalize on a final four run, that gets lots of coaches at lower tier schools tons more money or hired at much bigger schools, to go down to Cincy. Would be a terrible decision unless he thought he could win big early and then catapult to a top team in the near future. Still, don’t think that’s worth the risk.

Hire Frank, and let’s get that Home & Home series started! Make it happen UC!!

Why in the world would UK ever do a home and home with UC? Cal MIGHT throw them a bone and let them come to Rupp as a favor to his buddy Martin. But no way a does a program the caliber of UK EVER need to give a home game to a mediocre program. That's just laughable.

UK has done it with IU, and still does with UL. Now that’s laughable!

South Carolina fans are so dumb. I congratulated one on Final Four and he said girls team was great. He had no idea who men's BB coach was or if they made FF. I was embarrassed on his dumbassness sorry not a word but is true. Frank Martin and USC jr are nothing, they have no clue or care.

I think they are just tryin to appease the fan base by at least talking to him. No way they can afford that buyout plus give him a raise.

Why would anyone go from the SEC conference to UC. looks like a step down.
Because he will get fired probably pretty soon at USCe. He was 17-16 this past year and 16-16 the year before that. One more year of bad results puts him on the hot seat. Plus it's much easier to win at UC because it's an easier conference and UC actually cares about basketball unlike USCe.

I think Martin maybe in the same position as coach Cal... he’s accomplished something no coach there has before and that’s an elite 8 and final 4. He may have a little shorter leash than Coach Cal but he’s up there when it comes to that basketball program I would think...

UK is a Div 1 program like the others. It makes no difference.

USC would be dumb to fire him. Name is a better coach that would be willing to coach South Carolina? I can’t think of any.

In reality it's basically would be a lateral move, not something a coach of his stature should do unless their welcome was worn out where they were at.

Fact is, the Final Four was a total fluke for Martin at USC. He's not made the NCAA Tournament in any of his other seasons at USC. Personally, I think it's a terrible hire for UC if they were going to move in that direction. He's been 17-16 or worse in 5 of his 7 seasons at USC. You don't hire a guy based on 1 successful season in the last 7. That process always gets teams in trouble.

I think it would be a decent hire. I dont think it's a step down by going to UC either. AAC is not the greatest conference, but Houston, and UC are consistent programs lately. A lot of people up here would love that hire. Personally, I couldnt stand Cronin and would be happy with Martin, Van Exel, or Brannen from NKU. But PLEASE GOD, NOT MIKE DAVIS

Honest question...how does UC care more
About basketball than USCjr? Based on what exactly?
