His accent has really changed since he played at Kentucky. He sounds like someone from the northeast US now, not eastern Kentucky like before.
That happens with an accent. I spent 8 years in Tennessee and then 10 years in Indiana before going to my first high school alumni reunion and this girl I had dated 25 years prior told me she was having a hard time figuring out my accent.

I'm a UK season ticket holder living in TN, and a former student-athlete at TN Tech (wanted to go to UK but no scholly offer; forgive me). Anyway, it's hard to not be excited about this. Mark Wilson (AD) hit a home run. I don't expect Pel to be in Cookeville for long, as it's pretty easy to over-achieve when there are no expectations. #wingsup

You make it sound that being articulate is a bad thing. I see nothing wrong trying to improve your communication and that applies to anyone no matter what region of the country you are from. He is a head coach and you will not get a head coaching job if you talk like you have rocks in your mouth.

Serious question, Would he take a cut in pay? I have no idea what an SEC asst. coach would make versus being a head coach at a smaller school

Pelphrey is nearing a crucial time in his coaching career to climb back into a prime coaching job, Tennessee Tech seems like a good school to launch from.

Are you implying that someone with an eastern Kentucky accent is not articulate? People up north kind of look down their noses at southerners, especially Kentuckians. A company I used to work for was bought out by some people from Wisconsin. Their attitude towards us was we were dumb hillbillies but we held all of the company production records. They wouldn’t listen to us and proceeded to drive the company into bankruptcy. Give me someone with a southern accent and has some horse sense over an educated smooth talking northeasterner anytime.

There’s nothing more unattractive and gross than a northerners accent. I’m not a fan of “hick” but I’ll take a decent sounding southern drawl over northern sounding nose talk any day. It’s the most annoying sound on planet earth.

Donovan probably sent him to some speech expert (probably like the people who work with actors when they need a certain accent) so he could lose the "hick accent" and learn to talk like a northerner.

Are you implying that being from Eastern Kentucky that you have to speak with a southern accent? I've met many people born and raised from the state of Kentucky that speaks with no southern accent. Sometimes it comes down to education and the lack thereof.

So you are unaware that it is possible to be educated and also have a southern accent? Even more so, unaware that it is possible to succeed in the north with a southern accent?

Because it is.

There is a huge difference between having a southern accent and being ignorant.

Education or a lack there of has nothing to do with your accent. Your accent has more to do with where you have lived most of your life. Most people in Kentucky speak with a different accent than people from the northeast, Wisconsin, Illinois, New York, Georgia, and Alabama. I speak as “southern” as people in the southern part of Kentucky do, and by the way, I was my class valedictorian and have a college degree. My wife talks as “country” as I do and she graduated from nursing school with honors. Education has nothing to do with accent.
