I wish we could get fringe players to want to stay.
I think Cal is now becoming more vocal in trying to convince players to come back for another year. He’s going to need to if we’re really going to be legit contenders.

if Cal had Herro's best interest he would tell him to stay. he would be better next year.
His brother has a hard time getting any clock in the league, he would not be able to stick on a roster or would play a major of the time in the G league. Might as well come back and get more experience in the college game and it likely keeps RJ Hampton away from Duke..
Don’t find him to be any better than Hagans, just had more talent around him to mask his obvious offensive deficiencies. Wouldn’t be surprised if this move hurts him.

The thread title is a joke. Duke has been killed by kids who came in with multi year plans or resumes who left at the first chance to get drafted (Jones, Winslow, Kennard (supposed to do 3), Trent, Duval (resume).

Returning is in his best interest. Returning is in Hagans’ best interest. I’m not sure returning is in Herro’s best interest.
Herro is gone. I don’t know why people do this to themselves and have this false hope. It is Kentucky basketball. Players come here to play one year. PJ was not going to be a first rounder last year because he’s a tweener and had to prove himself with a different skill set. He is still not as high as his play this year warrants because he is still a tweener.
Herro has a position and scouts for some reason think he can defend and beat his man off the dribble. Why come back and let them possibly see that he can’t defend the drive nor beat his man off the dribble?

This is good because the Hampton kid won’t go there. Jones was made to look better by the big 3. Kid is like Hagans. Decent defender but can’t shoot
I think that Herro would be a lottery pick in a very weak draft next year.
It's kind of a tossup, but another year at UK and Herro's chances of having a LONG career in the NBA would be better.
This is why Duke is the best and coach K is the greatest ever. It's all about College Basketball and these kids are seeing it and is why the best is going to Duke.

Love Herro. My favorite UK player in a long while. But he got abused the last 4-5 games by Wuick guards taking him to the basket and he didn’t shoot nearly as well either. If scouts watched these games, I’m afraid 2nd round is what he’s looking at this year. Needs another year.

Yep Tyler and Keldon can go but if they want a better chance at a long pro career they should come back and grow their games. Prove they are finishers and winners. Consistent and mature. Get the education boost. Go too early and players get tossed aside
Tre Jones coming back isn't that big of deal for them honestly. He's horrible offensivly and looked far better than he was because of RJ and Zion. His defense is good as long as he can grab and slap. Bolden, DeLaurier, O'Connell and Goldwire are all worthless. If White is hitting 3's and rebounding he can be serviceable. Aside from that they are going to have Carey, Baker, Ellis and Moore, and possibly adding Hurt. What's interesting is that it is more of an actual team than what they had this year, but it is no where near as talented or threatening. Duke will probably take a bit of a step back next year and be in that 10 - 15 rank most of the season. Offensivly they will be pretty good, but defense looks to be a problem.

Agreed...is Jones any better a prospect than Ashton? They both have the same warts (both shot less than 30% on 3pt). Ashton shot a bit better from FG and is a tad bigger (plays longer IMO). I don't see the difference in either PG and neither are close to NBA ready.
ON the plus side...does this effect RJ Hampton decision (not that UK is a legit player for him IMO). But it would be hard to go to Duke if I'm Hampton now.

Problem is, in addition to Jones they also have Boogie Ellis coming in, O'Connell, Baker, Goldwire returning and Wendell Moore who will play some at the 2 because he is undersized for a 3. So that is already 6 guys in the backcourt. Hampton is better than all of them, but do you really want to go somewhere with that many other guys?
There are so many takes on this board about Kentucky’s defense that are completely divorced from reality. Kentucky gave up 44, 56, 58, and 60 points in regulation during the NCAA tournament, with three of the four opponents being very good teams on offense. No one was getting abused.
