That was the game. He himself went on a 8-0 run. Poor job coming out after the half by Cal and awful Herro started the second half.

I'm not sure Herro could have done more than he did. Brown looked faster and Herro's focus was on defending the 3, not stopping the drive by floater.

I'm not sure we had an answer on the entire team for that.

Well other teams like Duke NC State and SEC teams did. UVA won't let him get open. I bet

I watched that match-up closely. I thought Herro did a good job. Great offense will trump good defense.

Tayshaun Prince once hit five consecutive threes and it sure as hell wasn't because they failed to guard him. Dude was just on fire. It happens.

Not many people slowed Brown or Harper down all year. They are good, quick guards. They got by most everyone. brown shot out of his mind to open the second half. Herro had a hand up on some and they just went in. Just tip your hat on those shots and move on.

Yep. Wasn't bad D. Was just great O. Plus it was a good counter to us pushing them off the 3pt line. Alot more at work than just the simple conclusion.

If anyone got worked, it was hagans.

Rather get beat by a 22’ jump shot than a 2’ layup

He plays decent given his size and athletic ability. Against better competition he does not deliver. Which why he should stay another year and learn to develop his offense

Yes but Hagans is gonna get beat up all off season over that. Rather if it's a GM in the NBA or BBN and Cal all summer.

Herro is getting a clear pass and he really played poorly.

Herro would be a all time great college player. He got abused on the big stage, as many freshmen do

I put this on Cal, he has a bench and he refused to use it in the second half and it makes me wonder if it wore our guards down, chasing Auburn all over the floor and hurt us when it came to the offensive end.

It happens in the NBA too. Watch any game the Celtics play against the Sixers. They go right at JJ Redick every time. He is one of the worst defenders in the NBA, but he gets away with it because he is such a tremendous shooter. The Sixers have definitely lost games because of their poor perimeter defense. The Celtics replaced Jaylen Brown in their starting lineup with Marcus Smart because Brown cant stay in front of anyone.

I missed all but the last 4 minutes of regulation and the OT. Did Baker play at all in the second half? Did Cal do anything after the run by Brown?

Actually, the biggest Brown basket came after the Cats failed to secure a missed FT with PJ trying to save the ball inbounds. Threw it straight to Brown who made the three for a 5 point trip and entirely changed game momentum.

IIRC that was a phantom foul that gave Brown the 3 FTs that started that sequence.

Herro didn’t stay in front of him at all...that’s not doing a good job

We game-planned for the 3's so much that Harper and Brown abused our guards when they closed out on them. It was a hell of an adjustment by Pearl, honestly. That's why it's so damn hard to beat a team 3x in one season and why I honestly wanted no part of Auburn. They are ON FIRE since we beat them at Rupp, just on fire.

Then why make a statement saying he couldn’t stay in front of brown. He has as best as his legs would allow. Genetics obviously has a role. Which is why this entire post is stupid

The guy said herro did a good job on him, which was a blatantly false statement, so I corrected him. I know as much as anybody cause I’m a really slow white guy. Sometimes the herro circle jerk is painful on this website.

The bias is real when it comes to Herro. And I got banned for a week just bc I started a thread saying this exact thing. Herro is mediocre, inconsistent. He has potential. But needs to stay here another 1-2 years to reach that imo, how many plays did we run for him? He would get ATE alive in the NBA.

Brown and Harper were matchup nightmares. I said this after the first game against them when we won by 2. They are both too quick for any of our guards to stop and they are skilled enough to hit the 3 when you back up on them. If we had a small guard to at least stop one of them then we could live with the other one beating us, but as it was they both abused Hagans and Herro. I think at one point Auburn had scored something around 34 points and about 27-30 of those were by either Harper or Brown. So, it didn’t matter if you switched Hagans and Herro, either way one of them was getting beaten.

That being said, I don’t blame Herro much. He played hard defense on Brown, but Brown is just that good on offense. He is quick and has a good shot and he was on. Not much Herro could do. However, I will heavily criticize Hagans. Hagans often got blown by because he lacked hustle and he stopped paying attention and slacked off. An example of this was a play where Brown was not in the game in the 2nd half and time was winding down. Auburn had no one else to really turn to in order to score and everyone should have known Harper was going to get the ball. With under 10 seconds Hagans basically falls asleep and Harper takes a pass and immediately goes to the basket. It is clear that Hagans was not ready for Harper to even receive the pass and basically because he wasn’t focused, he gave up a drive to the basket. It is one thing to get beat by a better player, but to just relax and lose focus (especially in the last 5 minutes of a close game and with under 10 on the shot clock) is inexcusable and a big reason why we lost.

I’d argue Reddish was the most overrated player who underperformed. KJ is the only one projected in the lottery btw. Your precious Herro is no where near that. And probably won’t be due to his genetics. He could stay with those white boys at Wofford and a few lesser known teams but he’s not ready to play against the big dawgs in the league

Sometimes I think players like Herro benefit from running into the Bryce Browns of the game. If nothing else, it should be a barometer check on where you stand vs. your peers. Translation, Herro would benefit greatly from a second year. Will he see that, remains to be...
