Hopefully we can and should beat Abilene Christian without him. They have a seven footer who averages 4.3 minutes per game and then after that they have no one over 6 foot 8. Their best player is Lewis, who is 6'6. I have to imagine that Montgomery and Richards could defensively handle their smaller lineup (they will largely play two guys that are about 6'7 and 6'8). We can technically go small if they are too athletic.

For depth, PJ would be good, but I think we should be able to take care of them. So, if PJ needs to rest an extra day or so then so be it. Just hope it isn't much longer than that.

If Washington is the only chance we have at a Final Four, where screwed before the tournament even begins, healthy or not..
Well, I guess based on what you're saying we're screwed; because without Washington the team is not going to the FF.

As Frankie would say, relax. I think it’s a non-issue and we will see the best out of PJ. If you’ve played sports at just about any level on a decent sized stage, the adrenaline takes over and this precautionary thing fades faster than a five star recruit at IU or UL.

What scares me is 1 game turns into 2 games and he'll let's save for sweet 16. If he's out of tourny then say so.

Come on man. You cant be serious. PJ is our best player. Losing him would cripple this team.

I know how good Washington is, but he is not gonna make the 3 point shooting and offense better.. Better have consistent scoring if your gonna make a Final Four run, this team just does not have it at times..

This is why last March drove me crazy. No one really knew about Vanderbilit, but our fans kept driving speculation that he was just a "few days away" from playing.

I know it's different situations, but it's kind of annoying seeing how narratives shape out of thin air.

This team, like most college teams, has to have all hands on deck.

PJ Washington is obviously not Zion Williamson, but he brings some of the same types of things Williamson does--and he's just as essential to our team.

But here's the thing: Travis is essential. Herro is essential. Hagans is essential. Johnson is. At this point none of them can be removed, because if any of them were Kentucky wouldn't have a shot.

Washington is our best and he's controlled so many games this year. He controls games sometimes and you don't even realize he's doing it, simply because he's one of those guys who's so versatile he can do many things beyond the stat sheet. (A little Chuck Hayes-esque in that way.) If he's out for longer than the Abilene game Kentucky is in a world of hurt.

You do know PJ is the highest percentage three point shooter on this team correct? He would’ve nailed the three point shot that would’ve won the game against Tennessee if not for that bogus charge call on Johnson. You must not watch the Cats too often. The only team that stands a realistic shot of knocking us out before the Final Four (assuming Washington plays) is UNC. After that, it’s basically a coin flip.

Never ever say so. It is nice to know as fans, but even nicer for an opposing coach. Playing it close to your chest means the opposing coach will still have to prepare for PJ. If they didn’t, then they’d get more time preparing for Travis or Herro and then they can focus more on a defense or a scheme to keep them from scoring as much. Giving teams plenty of time for them to prepare and straight telling them that your best player will not suit up, when it is still in question, is a bad idea.

Yes sir, all i mean is Kentucky has gotta have more than there inside game and rebounding if they wanna make a tournament run.. We gotta have someone other than Herro shoot consistently from the perimeter..

We do not shoot good enough from the perimeter, if Washington is our best shooter than that is telling you something. Wasn't Patterson the top 3 shooter on the John Wall team, look how it ended for them..

I would argue that it is more about our defense and keeping from turning it over. We didn’t really lose to Tennessee because we lacked consistent scoring. We lost to them because we turned the ball over and allowed them to score 18 points in 3 minutes. Take down a turnover, get a defensive rebound, or contest a three, and UK probably wins that game. Our offense can be streaky, but I really think it will be the defense that carries us, and our defense is typically very very good. Can’t lose focus and we need Hagans to play like he did for most of the TN game and not turn the ball over.

Lol but that team didn’t have Herro, quickley , and Johnson that are capable hitting threes. No freaking comparison.

He is statistically has the best 3pt % on the team. He also is one of the best 1 on 1 post players in the NCAA and consistently scores on the block. We are 13 in offensive efficiency (efficiency = consistency).

He is a poor mans Zion Williamson and he is the anchor of this team, we aren't much better than average when he sits in foul trouble.

You just said our best player isn’t going to make the offense better. Seek help

What is he gonna do during the tournament, average 40 a game, while shooting 70% from 3 range? Like i said, i know how good WAshington is and what he brings to the table. What i mean, is who in the hell is going to help him outside of Herro.. The tournament has to be more than a two man show, this is not December, where we was just beating teams half cocked..

Bledsoe was the top 3 point shooter. We lost 3 games that year. We were clearly a pretty successful team. Unfortunately, we went completely stupid in the Elite 8 and went away from who we were. It is true that we struggled to hit three pointers. That isn't a big issues. What is a big issue is that despite struggling to hit 3 pointers, that day we shot thirty freaking two (32) of them. We had just 3 games all season where we shot close to that number and the other two we made 10 and 15 rather than 4. If we go inside and work Patterson and Cousins then we probably win that game and possibly a title. Instead, we allowed Darnell Dodson to shoot 9 threes, and Wall to shoot 5.

This team can shoot the three pretty well, but they too do not need to fall in love with it and jack it 30 some odd times unless they are hitting them at a very high clip. Instead, they need to work their bread and butter and get it to PJ and Travis on the block and then allow Herro to take open looks.

This team is also different from that one because this team has the ability to hit jump shots and that team did not. PJ, Herro, and KJ have very good mid-range games and do not entirely rely upon getting to the rim like the Wall team did.

Once again like i said, know how good Washington is and what he does well. My point is him and Herro is not taking this team to the Final Four by themselves, while everyone else just comes and goes as they please.. I just hope the Tennessee gAme taught them a lesson..

Can not trade two's with three's and expect to win, i knew that would come back and bite that team. Just like i have a feeling that inconsistency will be the end of this team, this group has not played a full 40 minute game all season.. If we run into North Carolina, better be prepared to score in the 70's to 80's to win, good offense always beAts good defense when it comes to basketball.. Just hope the team is ready is all i am saying..

We've actually done more with less in the past. The '97 team had Mercer and a bunch of 2nd and 3rd tier guys. They were an OT away from a title. The '98 team was loaded with role players and not one player of Washington's caliber. The '11 team had Knight and Jones, but would you argue that the rest of the team: Lamb, Harrelson, Miller, Liggins - is substantially better than Johnson, Travis, Hagans, Richards, EJ, IQ? I know I wouldn't. I also wouldn't take the '14 team (even the March version of that team) against this current UK team.

Yes, UK has PJ and Tyler, but they also have a lottery level kid in Keldon Johnson and a double-double warrior in Travis. Not a bad bench either. You make it sound like outside of Herro and Washington, the rest of the UK team is devoid of talent.

Wife texted me just a minute ago and asked what was wrong with PJ. Hadn't had the chance to tell her about the walking boot. Said she got an alert saying he might be out for the tourney opener. Neither one of us are worried about Abilebe without PJ. No sense in risking it to sit him the first round. Now, the next matchup, that's a different story. We will need him against either Seton Hall or Wofford.

Are you serious ? Did you not see how Duke was without Zion ? And they have Barrett, Reddish and Jones. They still would not make it out of the Sweet 16 without Zion.
