Watching replay shows Richards not fouling with most calls! It is almost sickening to watch his calls compared to opponents and teammates! Coach Payne might as well tell him to man up on every play!!! He is going to be called in the SEC! every play on contact!! You can see Cal asking about the hand on defender the whole game! Will be glad to get out of the SEC without injury!

Noticed that last night and was trying to figure out what Richards was doing wrong. SEC officiating is really bad.

You're right. They tend to call mostly phantom no-touch flops and miss shot clock violations...
Wave off put back dunks on “over the back” calls which are not fouls, call offensive goal tending when the ball is four inches outside the cylinder, call loose ball fouls 2 seconds into an undefended fast break.

All that, and more, in a single Elite 8 game. :uzi:[sick]

Richards reaction time is slow and so he impeeds the motion of the offense a second too late which is a foul. Notice they didn't call a foul near the end on EJ as he went straight up on the block and actually went into that motion at the same time the opposition jumped to shoot at the basket. You can see the difference by watching on your recording. Richards is fouling, so it isn't a conspiracy. Plus, you see Cal getting mad at Richards not arguing about it. Cal will argue on some other plays like where they fouled Johnson and there was no call, etc.

Except for last year’s Sweet Sixteen.
That was a painful game. Just painful. Wasn't there something like 50+ fouls? Granted I know they started fouling more on purpose when they realized PJ couldn't shoot free throws (and it worked), but up to that point it was a whistle-fest for literally anything (and nothing).

What? PJ missed one free throw.

One thing Richards needs to work on is how he bodies up. He is way too aggressive with that and that is why they are calling fouls on him.

We've seen him come running over to a ball handler and body him up so hard the guy goes flying out of bounds.

Kenny P will get that fixed. These guys are trying hard to get into proper defensive position as fast as they can, Nick just hasn't learned how to do it without fouling.

Richards is a foul magnet. If he's in the game, he will get whistled for a foul every time he's in the vicinity of a shot being taken. Most of the time he's not fouling. There are times when he makes dumb plays- gets out of position or goes after an offensive rebound- and actually fouls. His potential is through the roof but he just struggles at times. For example, last night on one play he got lost on the screen and roll and his man went to the basket. He ran to catch up, the guy ball faked, and Nick fouls. But as I say, most of the time he's being whistled for simply being a bigger guy making any contact.
