How does a fairly decent (historically) team set their program's season home attendance record while being 1-13 in Conf (now 1-14)? Did anyone else find that weird? It's not like they hired an all-time great coach.

1. We’re not a historically decent program. We’re a historically mediocre at best program. 2. While Crean isn’t elite, I think our fans realize that we now play a fairly fun style of basketball and the future will be better than the present. JMO
Well, I give you props for getting the fanbase involved.

Wasn't trying to poo-poo your program, just thought that record would be set in a good year.

Definitely a fair question given they have been playing in that gym since 1964 and prior to 1988 it had a higher capacity than it does now. UGA has definitely has several much better seasons during that time.

No, that's fair. It would certainly seem that way, especially during a really good Durham/Tubby/Harrick year. Guess that just goes to show that fans will show up when they have an enthusiastic coach that runs an exciting style of ball. It is remarkable that we set that record this year though.

It is a bit surprising they set the attendance record this season. I guess the new coaching hire is what made the difference. I think it also illustrates just how ready that fanbase was to be rid of Mark Fox. Crean is more offensively minded, whereas Fox was defense above all. Fans love offense.

All Crean has to do is get one or two decent player nationwide and hold down Atlanta and they will be competitive. Sounds easier than it is but it’s not impossible.

Would have thought that the record would have been from the Dominique Wilkins days. As I recall the interest in UGA's program was high and they had winning records. I believe they got a post-season invite for the first time ever and then went on under Durham to 7 or 8 straight seasons going to NCAA or NIT. Durham was a good coach, a bit dry on personality...but so is Crean.

Crean will do a solid job there.

He’s already signed a 5 star player and even with the losses mounting this season, his team has been in a lot of games until the end.

Let's be honest, usually the only game that is a sell out is UK because the rest of the SEC sucks. This year they have had games against ranked or tournament teams to help pull in fans besides the UK game. That has to have helped attendance because they aren't worth watching themselves. Or maybe they enjoy seeing Crean stomping up and down the sideline hiking up his pants.

The reason the Pac 12 isn't taken seriously as a basketball conference is because one school dominates it - Kansas

While we as UK fans love UK to own the SEC, for the conference overall it hurts it - and in some cases us. How many times have we seen the SEC get 4 or 5 invites to the SEC tournament , only to see 2 teams standing at the end of the first weekend?

I love that we have Ben Howland, Rick Barnes, Bruce Pearl and now Crean in the SEC, because we need SEC teams to continually raise the bar and challenge UK for leadership in the league. I know Crean had a roller coaster time at IU but he was able to pull off a couple of good years.

So I hope that Clappy does make some noise at Georgia. Plus, the guy is entertaining from an opposing fan perspective

When reporting attendance figures to the NCAA, schools have the option to report people actually in the building or tickets sold/distributed.

Not sure what Georgia does but it's possible they are reporting numbers which are higher than the number of people that are actually there.

Maybe they really are filling the place, but I'd be interested in hearing what people who have been in the crowd think or see some crowd shots from this season.

A home attendance record for Georgia basketball means they may have had half the arena full.

Are talking about the number of tickets sold, or the number of people that came through the turnstiles. That can be two different things.

Kansas is in the Big 12.

"How many times have we seen the SEC get 4 or 5 invites to the SEC tournament, only to see 2 teams standing at the end of the first weekend?"

Umm... All of them?

Tom Crean has creeped me out since he kissed his son on the lips.

Crean will have them alot better next season, will not be a guaranteed win like in years past.. They will be young, but good over all, especially bringing in players like Edwards and bringing players like Claxton back.

LOL, UGA basketball team highlight from 2018/19 is it sets attendance record..................

UGA 2018/19:
  • (28-games) 10-18 (1-14 in SEC).
  • EIGHT players back from last years team who played in 29+ games.
  • EIGHT players back from last years team that played 10+ MPG.
  • Over 40+ PPG returning from last years team.
  • Team currently averaging 73.8 PPG.
UGA 2017/18:
  • (Through 28-games) 16-12 (7-9 SEC)
  • Team averaging 68.1 PPG.
  • UGA fires previous coach due to teams continued poor performance and lack of wins and hires his replacement........................................

This appears to be somewhat of a troll, but Crean is implementing a COMPLETELY different offensive philosophy and also doesn’t have the benefit of having Yante Maten’s services who was probably one Georgia’s all time greats. Think it was a given we’d take a couple of steps back record wise as the conference continues to get tougher.

Not trolling!!
  1. I always liked Maten and was worried everytime UK had to face him,
  2. But, Fox DID NOT leave the cupboard bare for CTC when he was fired,
  3. Fox improved UGA's W/L record in his first year by two more wins, three less losses,
  4. Also, CTC is a perverted ***-hat,
  5. Evidently IU's expectations are higher than UGA because CTC was not an acceptable enough of a coach for IU's train-wreck to keep him around any longer,
  6. UGA and CTC better hope that Claxton sticks around another year because AE will not be a "one-man-show" playing in the SEC, he will be the SEC version of Markelle Fultz ,
  7. Two of UK's previous coaches were "replaced" after winning 65% and 60% in their final two years at UK. I would wager to bet that the majority of UK fans would rather have CBG ([sick]) roaming the sidelines than have CTC leading the program,
  8. Also, UGA indirectly helped UK out with 1998 chamionship, OTS,
  9. In years past, UGA was one of the very few SEC schools that I didn't mind watching and rooting for (non-UK games) and I will always be a fan of 'Nique, but the 2018/2019 CTC's version of UGA basketball have to be a disappointing embarrassment to their fans and to the league.

Sincerely, please keep coming back @GermantownDawg, we (RR) enjoy your input! [thumb2]

Georgia has been selling out the games on Saturday. Weeknight games are harder for UGA, and some of the SEC schools, because of small population of the town and not getting fans from Atlanta and the rest of the state.

Georgia's sellout games are Arizona State, UMass, Kentucky, Florida, Texas, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and LSU. How many of these are ranked?

The Saturday games sold out early. And they have been full. If nothing else, Crean is a good marketer.
