I’ve always been a fan of Royce White to be quite honest. He was a fantastic basketball player with a rare skill set that was very comparable to Ben Simmons. Yes, I’m well aware what a headcase he is and that he made some stupid comments that came back to bite him but he’s also been very open about his struggles.

I’m not going to hate on a guy that clearly suffers from severe enough mental/anxiety issues that he can’t bring himself to travel to a job he loves that would pay him millions of dollars. I actually hope he makes some sort of comeback and continues to be an advocate for those suffering from psychological disorders.

Who is Royce white??????
Iowa State player that we played against in the 2012 tournament. Great player but had a fear of flying which means you can't really have an NBA career. According to the tweet he sent maybe he overcame it.

Don't forget he was also coming to Kentucky to play for Cal but at the last second he couldn't get on the plane.

At 260, He's going to be the high side of HW division. But the dude was champion as a wrestler so I'm sure he some coachable skills. The biggest concern is he's 27 and most likely needs a couple more years training to fight at a high level. In that division, a clean landed punch can cause brain damage so 30 entering that heavy division? man...

Couture and Cormier were both into their 30's when they began their fighting careers. I'm sure he's a freak athlete, so that's gonna be really helpful for him. I look forward to any new prospects in a sport that has became rather stale.

If he’s starting from scratch then he should be happy just to make the UFC as some point. He certainly has measureables that can make him elite but can his chin take a punch? Can he get his wrestling and jiu jitsu up to a competitive level? I guess we’ll find out

Not at all, honestly...

MMA is a young mans game . Just is . Experience helps but theres a fine line where about time experience helps , reflexes start declining , shots cant be shook off anymore , there are exceptions to everything but he would be approaching 30 before he would be ranked and make any coin as a fighter ... maybe he just loves the competition ?? I know i would if I go back 30-35 years .

Royce White is a spoiled brat. His family is beyond arrogant and don't buy into the "anxiety". He is a fake tough guy. Be careful what you wish for Royce, and knowing many people who have been involved with he/his family they'll be rooting for his UFC opponents to kick the living snot out of him.

Not in Heavyweight it isn’t. Heavyweights normally don’t excel until their early 30s. Look at the Top 10 right now

Champ: Cormier 39
1. Miocic 36
2. Ngannou 32
3. Lewis 34 (thought he was a lot older)
4. Blaydes 28
5. Volkov 30
6. Overeem 38
7. Dos Santos 35
8. Velasquez 36
9. Olenik 41
10. Tybura 33

I think White will need a lot of work obviously but the wrestling background is going to help. Plus let’s be honest if he shows potential at all they’re going to shove a rocket up his *** to promote him like they have the scum Greg Hardy and Lesnar too.

I can't get into UFC at all. Like watching two drunks brawl at 2 in the morning.
I'm guessing you haven't watched much. It's not like that at all. The skill level required to be a great fighter is off the charts. You have to learn so many different disciplines to be effective. Wrestling, jujitsu and striking are needed to be elite. The sport is growing rapidly and is a blast to watch once you understand the rules and the roster of fighters. So much better than boxing in my opinion. So many more ways to win

As a huge mma fan I love seeing what the best athletes can do. Royce white is one of those. I believe that NBA players are the most gifted athletes so the more of them the better

PS .. there are a lot of washed up dudes in that list !!!!

Yeah several really are but most guys that have a chance to be Elite at Heavyweight that are younger cut to Light Heavyweight instead so that they’re bigger and stronger than competition. I’m sure Jones, Gus, and Oezdemir could all fight at heavy but they use their frames to huge advantages in light heavy instead.

Jones is 30. Title challenger Anthony Smith is 32. Gus is 31. Oezdemir is 29. 6 of the top 10 are in the 29-32 age range with Texiera and Manuwa (both at the bottom part of the Top 10) the real outliers at 39.

It gets younger and younger the further down you go because of the weight cutting but while MMA is a young mans game it isn’t in the big boy classes the good dudes are all older. So a huge athlete like Royce with a wrestling background really does have a chance.

Like there aren’t any Petr Yan’s at heavyweight. Dude has won 4 UFC fights since June of last year and will probably get a 5th if he gets what he wants. Then may get a title shot in December at 27.

Yep, because the perfect way to calm someone who suffers from a severe anxiety disorder is to Step Into The Octagon!

I don't see this going well.
