I think we can safely say, without being jerks, that we hope this is no kind of serious medical issue or life threatening family issue, but at the same time we're not upset if Kansas loses a few more games. I think Kansas fans would say the same if the shoe were on the other foot. Well, the nice ones would.

While I tend to want to believe that this is legit, knowing KU and how they pawn off big trouble with players as something "personal", I'm not buying it.
Exactly
He’s been a problem since his freshman year. Kansas found him to have beat his gf and self does nothing. He’s a trouble maker and that’s saying something at ku. He left and good for him. Save what basketball career he has left. Self already screwed grimes and Vick no different

Wow ... maybe he know the NCAA Is coming down hard on Kansas. This means Kansas will lose some more games. :)

Could personal reasons include getting out from under the rapidly falling NCAA ban hammer?

Posts like these are just dumb. He's a senior and will be gone before any NCAA issues have any effect, so it seems obvious it's not that. Instead it plainly appears to be personal issues specific to him and/or his family.

It is a huge loss for Kansas, though, as he was their senior leader averaging around 15 ppg. Losing both Vick and Azubuike has pretty much torpedoed KU's whole season.

I’m just hoping he doesn’t have a family member dying or something that serious going on.

I don’t wish that stuff happening to anyone. I’ve dealt with too much of that the last 8 years.

Yeah I mean crap happens every year with players. They lose loved ones, but I don't remember anything like this. Where it is a leave of absence. Seems strange except for it being KU. Come home now the FBI is up my *** about the money. Witness 1?

Call me a skeptic but he’s a 21 year old college student. What can he possibly do to help his family that his mother or some other adult family member can’t do? Self and Vick were never on the same page. He practically begged to return to school after withdrawing his name. I’m thinking there’s something else to this other than “family issues”.
Yes, you do not pull your son away from his D1 college basketball team because of a family issue. Death in the family, sure. For a few days.

Just doesn’t make sense. Seems obvious that there’s more to this story.

Of course, at KU, you never hear the complete truth.

Something is brewing at KU.

Insert Bill Selfs hair piece where the hat is.

There's a lot of family issues that could be going on in his life that nobody knows about. At least wait until we know what the deal is before passing judgement.

There goes their chance at the regular season B-12 championship they covet so badly. Couldn’t happen to a better fanbase.

So according to his mother’s statement, he’s only needed for 2 weeks. Must not be that important if it only takes 2 weeks to handle. JMHO.

They'll say this year doesnt count because of players not there the full year or not eligible. Probably have already forwarded the excuses to all KU fans in an email.

They’ll add another Helms title to the rafters then!!!

My question is, why would he be benched for a large portion of the game if this is truly a family matter? Doesn't seem to add up.

It could have been the family matters were a distraction to him on the floor.

Kid is shooting 46% from three and our only consistent threat from the outside. This changes everything.

So I’m the one who has to say it? Bet he had to go lock his girlfriend in the face again?

Disclaimer. I do not know if he’s really the one who did that but I wouldn’t be shocked.

Starting to wonder if Self is on the way out. KU’s recruiting class is terrible (two three-stars), that program has been battling eligibility issues for like a decade now, the Adidas scandal, now this Vick noise. Plus they will lose Vick for sure at season’s end because he’s a senior, and probably Azubuike, Lawson, and maybe Grimes transfers. And then De Sousa isn’t sticking around to play one year as a senior. He’s gone at the end of the year.

Self may look at the writing on the wall and decide it’s best to recuse himself from the program.

Makes no sense. He's playing well, doesn't seem like he's distracted.. unless something happened in the locker room or just isn't responding well to teammates and coaching.

But on the floor? Seems like his game is fine.

We'll find out one way sooner than later.

I am starting to believe Kansas is in some sort of transition. I mean man check it out, you seem ok for real. Level with me..

Kansas has had some really shady things go down. I think you could at least agree that some of it definitely doesn't smell right. Lots of incoming issues, personnel issues, coaching issues, the Adidas scandal ect. Self is about to lose the Big12 which is really the only thing he was hanging his hat on. Looking at your incoming class it doesn't look like theres any way you win it next year. The Adidas scandal might hit him harder in the end.

Just seems like now that recruiting is taking a hit, Self might be close to being on his way out. maybe not this year or next, but I honestly dont see him there in 3 years. You hear anything like that from the KU side? It's just an observation from watching.

But on Rafters with a name like dont be so sensitive, you'd think it wouldnt even register with you. I dunno, seemed strange enough to me.

Maybe change it to CanBeSentsitiveattimes

It's actually got nothing to do with me. It's 'they so sensitive'. And they is you people ---> you know, everyone *except* me, and believe me, they so sensitive.

Lagerald Vick spoke with Devon Dotson, as both gestured that the other had messed up.

It doesn’t take much detective work of Self’s actions to figure out who was at fault. Vick was subbed out at the 16:30 mark, didn’t return that half, then didn’t start the second half. Dotson played 39 minutes and wasn’t subbed out till the game’s final minute.

When asked if the guard’s benching was to get more out of him, the coach said, “There were other reasons” — matching up with the aforementioned blame game between Vick and Dotson from the first two minutes.

Again, I don't buy that this is a family issue thing going on. Sounds like Self is growing tired of Vick, Vick might not have the best chemistry with teammates, and he's wondering about his decision to come back to Kansas.

I'd bet that he never plays another minute for Kansas..

Matthew Hurt please do yourself a favor and avoid the dumpster fire. Even if it isn't us don't do this to yourself. You seem like a good kid. You don't belong in the dumpster fire.
