Wasn’t the class of ‘19 supposedly Joel Justus’ time to shine?

Really?? Count me one that rather not succeed if we need to cheat. I remember the SI arrival from the Sutton era and what the school players and fans went through.

He is and was.

There's one guy in the world that could have ruined his inroads with Wiseman and he's coaching Memphis now.

If our class were Maxey, Whitney, Wiseman and Allen with us in heavy for McDaniels all before Christmas, folks would be on here posting Daffy gifs.

But one Memphis Hail Mary means our program is dead and people should be fired.

Maybe you should be on HOB where it was said a whole lot over the past 2 or so years

It was also repeated here a bunch to defend our recruiting misses last year... just wait. Justus is in great with the 19 class.

As I stated it may have been mentioned but it was not constantly or regularly mentioned on RR. yeah Justus has been mentioned but I don't remember wait till 19 as if it was a hot subject for a long time or much more than a passing subject. I cannot vouch for HOB. That I will have to take your word for.

Please provide links or any proof that 19 was supposed to be Justices year? Only thing you could probably dig up was the opinion of some posters on here who think they know stuff. Show us where you read this?

I understand you hate Cal. That’s cool and all, but your game is played out.

I don’t hate Cal in the least. Just think he has to do better.

And the Justus talk was corroborated by several others in this thread already. Just read.

We’ve heard for the last couple of years now about all the in-roads Justus was making with this class, so what happened?

I realize it’s tough to accurately evaluate an assistant coach since we’re not privy to what goes on behind the scenes, but recruiting has taken a nosedive since Justus got here and it doesn’t seem like he’s a player development type of coach like Payne either so I think it’s fair to question what he brings to the table at this point.

Also heard he was an analytics guru but even the analytically adverse fans have figured out that we don’t play an analytically friendly style of basketball under Calipari.
I will say this , there was nothing Justice or anyone else could have possibly done to get Wiseman from Memphis once they named Penny as their coach. He had done all he could do . We have 2 top ten players in the fold already . Does he not get credit for them ?

I would like to have an assistant like Tommy Lloyd of Gonzaga. He has oversea connections and is luring elite kids to Gonzaga. We need to broaden our horizon past Canada to find some of these kids.

I’m not sure why I’m even responding to you. Probably the beers I’ve had.

At any rate, our recruiting is as good as it’s ever going to get without cheating. What about this do you still not comprehend?

We had Wiseman until Penny got hired. That simple. You throw Wiseman in with Maxey and Whitney and UK fans everywhere would be hiding their boners. Justus has done fine but its not a one man job. Orlando and WW Wes and Nike all collectively leaving in a short span hurt us deep. If we're gonna badmouth ANYbody, its 1000% Barbee.

This is dumb. Did we cheat to get Anthony Davis? Did we cheat to get De'Aaron Fox? It's easy to just say "everyone else is cheating" instead of making an honest assessment of whether Cal's "This ain't for everyone, don't come here if you want to shoot" pitch is still as effective as it once was. It's clearly not. Cal needs to adapt. That's been his strongest suit in the past but to this point he seems kind of lost on how to get the mojo back.
No we didn’t cheat to get em! FBI stuff should’ve woke some of you up but, I guess not!

Yep, said as much the day Wiseman committed, but also said as much the day Penny went to Memphis.

Just a weird circumstance that's heaped on a few rival schools cheating for recruits. Thankfully, what happened with Memphis/SJ/Wiseman/Penny won't ever screw us over again. I mean the odds of that happening..

This is about more than just Wiseman. We haven't landed a top-5 recruit in 3 years.

There was definitely talk about getting in on recruits earlier in the process because we were putting so much time and effort in trying to finish up recruiting in the spring of the current recruiting class. Maybe that yielded the current results for the 2019 class. Unfortunately, it hasn't done a thing for recruiting big men. We put all of our eggs in the Wiseman basket and it bit us in the butt.

How many recruits want to be your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th choice after missing out on who you really wanted? With the egos of these top players, probably not many. They probably think they have no intention of being a fallback plan to anyone.

We have to start finding a way to get the best big men like we once did. We won't win big without them. Maybe it's time to start offering 3 or 4 of them without showing favoritism to one and say first to commit gets the scholarship. We have to try something different.

Me as well.. That period was not fun.. I had all my friends ask me how the Kentucky Cheetahs were doing all the time.

With the way the game is being played today, I ecstatic with the three we have right now. Sure we missed on a couple bigs that would have "looked good" with the 3 already committed but if they dont want to wear the blue and white then we move on..

We are still in on 2 or 3 top players plus Brooks.. Not sure why we havent offered Cockburn, maybe it was stated..

Like many have stated already we have no idea who we may or may not lose for next year.. Going by the freshman consistancy of play and body types we may be real happy with returnees next year anyway.

Fans, not cheerleaders. We can think critically about our team and still root for them at the same time.
There is a difference in criticizing the coaches, team, AD and anyone else connected to the program and critical thinking.....I actually think (sic)fans like you are lacking in the ability to think period sometimes...

UK currently is the only school in the country with two top 10 commits. KU has zero. UNCheat has zero. Dook has one.
Don't get in their way with facts.......Cal lost a recruit and now they want someone's scalp..........it is just the way of RR.........someone will step out of bounds in the next game and they will be off on a new hate chase.......

What exactly do you want Justus to do?

His hands are tied. Nike and Duke are inseparable right now. Cal pissed Nike off something awful when he shunned their tournament.

Look, our recruiting classes are still better than any other team not named Duke. Cal needs to coach what he has better.

Do i think Cal has lost a bit of an edge? I do

Do I think DUKe, and others, have been cheating their *** off the past few years? 100% ABSOLUTELY

I’m now letting this play out, to see if the NCAA is going to let dUKe, etc continue to sully the recruiting field before throwing in the towel on Cal

If your hands are tied, find a knife. Deflecting won't change anything and it doesn't hang banners.

If what you're suggesting is true, Cal and his staff need to humble themselves before the Nike machine and start playing nice with them in the sandbox again. If that still doesn't get us elites, then leave Nike once the contract is done.

To do otherwise is to embrace a losing strategy.

I'm glad our fans are taking on a widespread martyr complex regarding UK not cheating.

Glad to know "we're doing things the right way."

Does doing things the right way win titles? I guess we can hang an ethics banner next fall.

It's because they've backed themselves in a corner being so self righteous for the last 8 years.

I've got news for them. No one cares if people cheat. They only care if they get caught. I couldn't care less if we pay a million, just dont get caught.

This board is more concerned with Mother Sandy Bell pushing elite players away in the name of being holier than thou (and we make fun of UNC?) Than they are winning.

And that's why others are passing us by. Our administration is not concerned with winning titles, they just want to maintain, get paid, and have their name valued above Dean Smith. And what's funny is NO ONE knows who they are, and no one cares. All people know is Duke is winning and UK is not. And that's all they will rememeber.

We are lucky to have Cal. I still cant believe he wanted to come to UK with Barnhart and Bell screwing with his ways.

We have been #1 or #2 in recruiting every year Cal has been here. I know we'd like Carey or Wiseman but if you can't field a championship caliber team with the #2 recruiting class every year then you have problems. Our problem isn't recruiting it's 100% turnover. Duke is out recruiting us to be sure but even they don't lose 8 guys every year. They lose their top 2 or 3 and the rest stay and develop. We will be fine once we stop losing players like Quade and Richards. I get it if you are a top 10 pick then go. But if there is basically no chance of you making a roster in the NBA then the players really need to come back. Cal needs to make that adjustment. Right now all our players are one and done either by leaving to play in the G league or transferring. We can't lose the entire roster every year.
