He is the best guard on the team and has that toughness in the backcourt that the team needs.I feel the other young guards will come around and start playing much better.Still early they'e only played 4 games.

One game he looks like he should...another he looks like he should clearly come off the bench. Who knows?
Cal has the luxury of finding the right buttons to push to get the best out of each player. Having quade off the bench sends the message that he can't run n gun, has to think what is a good to great shot etc. plus Cal knows that Quade can take it.
Herro is a streaky shooter, once a couple fall he will get rolling which make his defensive defencies less glaring.

I never thought I'd be in the camp of play Quade more but we have no other guards that are worth a hoot at the moment. Hagans gives you nothing, Herro less than nothing, and Quickley who was supposed to be a "shooter" as well catches the ball squared up and wide open and wants to put the ball on the deck and drive or pull up. We're a mess and at least Quade gives us the ability to have a scorer even if he's giving it up on the other end.
Hagans is improving, made some great plays, 21 min 4 asst 0 TO...2 st and 2 blk. He is coming around. It was the fourth game. He is adjusting each and every game. Like what I'm seeing. As the say a W is a W.
I'd say Hagans has the most potential of the guards and tonight was better than the previous 3 but they were so awful it's going to be near impossible not to look better. Hagans came to college with a rep of being an absolute bulldog on d and tonight was the chance to showcase it by trying to stop a guy on heater and he got killed time and time again. not that anyone looked good but not everyone is supposed to be a lock down defender. I think for UK to be peaking and playing it's best basketball we need Ashton to be the guy at PG.
Not until he gives us something on offense.I've never seen a point guard with so few skills on offense.
I believe the Starting 5 should be this, based off consistent hard play and team ball.

Green is a scorer and has proven it. He has also got the bigs involved which is what Cal want's. Blows my mind that Green doesn't get more minutes.

I can't understand his minutes either. Not only can he score, but he's the best assist man we have...and that's hard to do when we're not running any offense.
I think when Cal and staff watches film they see Quade consistently make wrong decision in open court and can not guard opposing teams guards, he keeps hoping something will click with Hagans or Qui. Quade runs the half court sets/spacing much better than the others (as expected being a sophomore). So a last night, where we again let opponent dictate tempo, Quade looks better than other options.

Quade was ineffective two games ago. I was surprised at how much time he was getting against VMI. But he made the most of it.

I'm such a conservative in nature. I keep wondering why Cal has monkeyed with the rotation.
I liked Quickley, Green, Johnson, Washington, and Richards starting, with Hagans, Herro, Travis, and Montgomery off the bench.

The team played better when it was this lineup! Ever since Cal changed it and started switching it up, the team seems lost!
Quade Green is going through a major transitional challenge as a sophomore. He came is as ballyhooed point guard last year and has discovered what all of us already knew--that unless you have TRULY EXCEPTIONAL leaping ability (Kemba Walker), shooting ability (Bubba), and quickness (Ulis), guards under 5'11' are going to struggle at the collegiate level. In the modern history of college basketball, it is rare for a short point guard who plays major minutes to lead his team to a Final Four, let alone win a championship.
Green has gotten out of the gate somewhat sluggishly this season. This has happened for three reasons:
(1) He is missing the shots he is supposed to be making after having dribbled to open spots on the floor. The shots he takes in this situation are the RIGHT shots, but they aren't falling. This will come around and Green will be fine in this area. This is his arguably his greatest strength as of right now.
(2) He is playing "hero ball" and going for acrobatic or unbalanced shots from distance that are beyond his skill set. This was not only true in the Duke game, but as recently as the VMI game (see fade away post jumper). This is not his game and it is somewhat surprising to see him lose his head in situations like these. Point guards are supposed to be much more level headed than this.
(3) For being a tough Philly point guard, he has gotten pushed around far too easily on defense and he is getting blown off the ball by other guards. His lateral quickness is a major concern. He is a decent ball-handler, but not much more, and his lack of explosive quickness means that he can't push the ball in transition, or change directions in a half court attack. This more than anything else is preventing him from getting the kind of minutes he'd like to have.
We NEED Green, but improvements are needed in shot selection, hitting mid-range jumpers, lateral quickness, strength, and lateral quickness on defense. He is capable of hitting open threes in an offense that features multiple PG's but he is not performing well enough to make Calipari say that he is irreplaceable.
Green can get playing time by deeply committing himself to running the plays that Cal wants and playing within himself--provided that Calipari wants a more deliberate "set" offense as opposed to a more open style of play that takes advantage of matchup problems. A potential challenge will be that as Hagans gains more confidence and experience, will Green lose focus and try to do too much in order to stay competitive? Another challenge is that Calipari's offense requires superior abilities from the PG position to break down defenders and allow the offense to play downhill. It starts at the PG position. Simply put, Green lacks this ability. At some point he is going to have to be more than a guard who looks to the bench for a play and then runs it. This is needed, but Kentucky needs more than this from the PG position. In a jam, this team will need him to break down a defense and get creative. Right now, he cannot do that. For this reason and the reasons outlined above, THAT is why he is not playing as much.
