As Carole King said:

"It's too late, baby, now it's too late.
Something inside has died and you can't hide and you just can't fake it."

Final Four Banner coming down. 22 wins forfeited.
Or as John Mellencamp said (lyrics slightly modified):

When the banner come tumblin' down
When the banner come crumblin' crumblin'
When the banner come tumblin' tumblin' down

Not being a rules expert I ask is there really any harm in playing a kid in an exhibition game? If he is later ruled eligible no problem for sure,if he is ruled ineligible and hasn't played in a regular season game then you lose an exhibition game(they don't count anyway)

This seems to bring last years games into question,it could also mean that KU is waiting on the outcome of the trial,a guilty verdict means they might be in the clear and a not guilty or hung jury gives them a problem

It is interesting that Zion has already played,Duke and K are so arrogant it boggles the mind.I am ashamed to say that I would find enjoyment in anything of a negative nature that happened to Duke basketball.

Yeah, but duke doted on the Frowner...

Technically he only paid $30k. That was the problem as he didn’t pay the rest until a lot later. How many NCAA athletes are driving cars worth $30k-$50k? We going to investigate them all?
Lol. A college senior in December goes into a New York jewelry store that's known for selling expensive bling to high-paid pro athletes accepts $13,000 down on $90,000 worth of jewelry with a promissory note to pay the rest later (assuming a pro contract). Said student-athlete fails to pay off loan and is taken to court by the jeweler. Same student-athlete then proceeds to help his team to a national championship. The trial has testimony that corroborates what happened. Case is settled, closed. NCAA asks Duke about it. They say "we know nothing". Player is now in the NBA so the NCAA decides nothing to see or do here, just move on.

Now do you see the idiocy of believing there's nothing there? At the very least, Thomas should have been ruled ineligible due to impermissible benefits (the loan) not to mention where the hell he got the cash and all games subsequently played should have been vacated.

It's selective enforcement, plain and simple. So get off your high horse. You cheat.

The purchase was made in December 2009. The remaining balance was supposed to be paid within 15 days. So your statement “assuming pro contract” doesn’t make sense. Even if he went pro it wouldn’t happen over the next 15 days, not to mention Thomas had very low pro prospects at the time. He played his first pro season in the D-league making next to nothing.

Can't get a loan based on future expected professional sports earnings, which is clearly what happened.

If kids are driving cars under those same circumstances, then absolutely investigate them all.

The problem is he is the only one sitting, when who knows how many others on that team were bought? Like taking a deck chair off the Titanic.

THAT'S your argument? Man, do you even hear yourself? Your response is the very definition of delusional, deflection when faced with an obvious case of cheating (but not getting caught). WHERE the hell did a college senior get $90,000?? And don't give me that it was family money. That dog won't hunt. Your team, your school, your coach all cheated, got away with it, and have a tainted banner for it.

Again he had $30k not $90k. It’s important to get the facts straight. Again the whole loan based off of a promised pro contract doesn’t add up.

Personally I’m not too worried about it as I want these kids to get the money they deserve. As of now that has to be through certain “shady” ways but I hope soon it won’t be.

It really becomes interesting now,KU admits/says that it has talked with the NCAA about the trial. In your opinion does that mean the NCAA response or course of action will be influenced by the outcome?

Duke certainly has its issues. The Maggette issue is bad in that other teams with players caught up in the scandal were punished but Duke wasn't. The Lance Thomas issue wreaks in that giving a college student (even one with draft potential) a 70k Line of Credit (I won't even get into a college kid having the 30k downpayment) is an NCAA violation and would bring down the 2010 banner at Duke. Even with all the proof known, the NCAA did nothing because Thomas and the jeweler didn't talk. The Marvin Bagley issue is even more egregious. Nike pays hundreds of thousands of dollars to your family and you pick a Nike school but that is ok? The eligibility issue (barely able to be eligible in high school one year, taking an entire year of school and approved for eligibility in college the next year) is a bad look as well.

I have been very consistent. I believe all schools cheat. Some even get investigated. Duke does not even get investigated for things Coach Cal would get banned from coaching in the NCAA for doing. That is wrong.

It’s definitely a loop hole but it’s not a violation. Nike, Under Armor, Adidas all sponsor AAU teams. And there are not rules/caps or anything on how they can pay/support those programs.

The NCAA didn’t just ignore verything because it’s Duke, they ignored it because they don’t have any rules preventing it.

It’s absolutely shady and should be addressed but it’s not illegal or an NCAA violation.

It’s kind of amazing what’s going on in the FBI investigation because all this could have been avoided if the parents and shoe companies were just smarter about it and developed AAU programs to feed money to the families.

I KNEW you were a member of this board Mr. Bilas!!

Come on Jay, admit that you are nothing more than an ACC excuse maker. Everyone knows that if the things that have gone on at Duke and UNC lately were to happen at ANY other school, they would get HAMMERED by the NCAA!!

Your last paragraph speaks volumes that the ESPN folks are afraid or prevented from saying.

Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone and Positively 4th street could have been written about K and Duke basketball

It's clear the Bagley family was payed money for him to play basketball and to steer him to a Nike school. This would make him a professional. See Enis Kanter. Paying kids to go to a school is not within the rules. See University of Louisville.

Bill Self just sent out some feelers for a last minute Hooter’s gathering. All of the national media, as well as Mark Emmert were invited. He thought it was time for everyone to catch up. It’s on the house.
