I’m not old enough to remember him. He retired the year before I was born. I’ve listened to his sign off though, as well as a few other clips, and just listening to him I get goosebumps all over. He has the type of voice and inflection that makes you feel Kentucky as a tangible object, and makes you proud to be there at the same time. Like you’re a part of something special just listening to him.

This is a perfect way to acknowledge the impact of Cawood. Nice job.

I almost tagged a few posters including you, just to see if that seemed right. I wish I could have heard him on a random given night in his prime. Like just tuning in to us playing Georgia on some unforgotten win in time. There’s still something special about listening to Tom Leach on the radio. It must feel like that ten fold back with Cawood.

With Cawood, it was like being able to see the game thru his eyes. Just magical it seemed. I liked the fact he wasn’t a homer. He would tell you when a player was sucking or dogging it. He would tell you when UK got screwed on a call, or when they got a break on a bad call.

Tom is really good. One of the best announcers out there now.

Cawood was the eyes and ears of millions of Kentucky fans for games before television carried every UK game. And he did a damn good job of doing it.
And when UK was on TV, virtually all of us would turn down the TV volume and crank up the radio. I like Tom Leach a lot, but man do I miss Cawood. Talk about a guy who could unify a fan base.
