Monday Morning Shorts:

- Just the time of year when my mind ventures to college football- Last Chance U comes out on Friday. Podcasts. Articles. The occasional cool morning.

- Pretty solid World Cup final. Loved how early in the morning it was. If I were to ever start following European soccer, that would be a big sell.

- Arch Goodwin with a Crash Davis-esque record, becoming the all-time leading scorer in the Summer League.

- Reid Travis has to be the all-time greatest grad transfer, right? Former Top 40 recruit, 20&9 guy in the Pac10?

- The wife’s Bahamian friends got me a bottle of John Watling rum for Christmas. Tried it out with a rum old fashioned this weekend and absolutely delicious.

- Birthday party this coming weekend at Wodie and my old stomping grounds- Pavilion. eek

- Recruiting should be interesting once more. Let’s add Dontaie Allen to Jeffries (who’s had a great summer) and Maxey (who’s a damn stud) and get going.

- WTF is this media narrative that Cal held SGA back? Top 40 recruit to lotto pick, and Cal gave him the ball. I wouldn’t call Knox’s freshman year disappointing individually either. He was a fringe Top 10 guy- not Marvin Bagley.

- Lass would love to move sometime and yeah I get it. Wouldn’t mind it either, but she’s already hamstrung with her parents in Williamsburg, VA; brother in San Fran; best friends in NYC, LA, Boston; good friends in Denver and Atlanta. Plus she really wants to travel. Well with what vacation? And once we have kids, most vacation will be to see family.

-Anyway, three more weeks until BBN. [banana]

He either held them back or they were already that good. No credit for Cal. It's way past time for another title shoved up the media's ***.

Congrats @tfields01 on a great tourney. -5 for 3rd.

Well played, man.

Appreciate that, Cawood.

A little advice for you all...if you ever find yourself tied for the lead in a tournament with three holes to go, please don't go bogey-triple-par while your playing partner goes par-par-birdie. It hurts your chances of winning.

So after a 420+ yd drive you bogeyed the hole?

Sounds familiar.

From Decoursey on Twitter, he gets it;

Kevin Knox shot 440 times at Kentucky, earned 167 FTs. Double figures 15 of last 18, 5 of 20+. But summer league shows not used right.

The stats show he wasn't misused. The use of the facepalm is to mock those who are saying it.

@wcc31 which of the John Watling’s did you try? Assuming it was the dark if you did old-fashions? Try some Ron Zacapa 23 yr. it’s very good dark rum.

Haven’t ever done rum old-fashions because by the time I get to have a drink I don’t want anything fancy I just want to sit down with a stiff pour. They sound interesting though.

You're supposed to be a bartender?

It’s dark, but not sure which one. Obviously not very familiar with rum.

I really liked the Rum Dums I had at her parents’ club but that concoction involves egg whites and other ****. The old fashioned worked fine.

- Finished Dan Brown’s Origin yesterday. I believe the science/religion/artistic symbology genre has reached its end. Entertaining, but not quite as challenging like Davinci Code and Angels and Demons. /bookreviewsbystrokin

- I haven’t golfed all year but will attempt to do so Friday. Probably still better than half the jabronis I’m playing with. I’m a pure athlete.

- Speaking of being a pure athlete, I often wonder was basketball really the best sport “suited” for my natural gifts? I actually think swimming was something I could have excelled in but never had the opportunity to explore it. Swimming and badminton.

- As a general rule, I have a hard time trusting folks over 40 that still wear visors. No offense, Mike Gundy.

- The Open Championship this week. Hearing that the weather has been hot and dry over there. Checked out the weather archives for Carnoustie on accuweather and noticed they’ve had sunny, windy days in the 70s. Sure sounds pretty crucial!

wcc, I don't know your all's timeline about pumping out kids, but there's something to be said for having family nearby. I don't know how people do it that don't have family (or good babysitters) to help.

But also, you all (well, really the Mrs.) are young... so move while ya can. I dunno. Sounds like big life decisions to me.

-Congrats Fields, great showing.

-Wodie little weekend for our Invitational. Bounced out around noon Friday and didn't stop until 7pm last night. Got put out on 5 in the Shootout, and fired 80/71 over the weekend. Disappointing start, but was pretty pumped to finally post a Red number again in an actual tournament -- been way too long. 33 on the back to get it done.

Got cut on my skin w/ by a guy in the last group, cost me about $400.

-Abh & TurboK brought the fun, as always. Golf, Pool, Bourbon, Horse Racing Gambol til 11pm. Drunken golf gambling was the highlight, though. Hitting shots from the yard to various holes & a 3-club, 3 hole challenge just before dark, w/ plenty of topps and duffs.

-Has Chad ever had or made a cocktail that didn't include sugar/simple and cherries? Smh. Open your mind a little.

I prefer my bourbon w/ neat or with a Rock, but I love all types of cocktails. Don't quite understand the constant hate around here -- plus, the 'cocktail bar' vibe is the one I enjoy most these days if I find myself out.

-Lass got a nice promotion at work, gonna be managing a different store. Kroger is cutting full time (non managing) Pharmacist hours to 30 per week, which is a pretty huge deal. That industry is pretty scary right now, tbh...any kiddos you know who are going to school for that may want to *seriously* re-think their path.

-This rain was much needed, hopefully we get some more.

-'Live From Carnoustie' :fire::golf: . I've got my eye on St. Andrews 2021, definitely a Top 5 sports bucket list for me.

-Anyone going to Barbasol?

Have a friend going through this same mess. Too many pharmacy schools = oversaturation of the market. Same **** the legal profession went through.

I’m pretty lazy. I have the stuff to make OFs and I know how to do it. That’s why I stick to that. Also appreciate bourbon neat.

Just not a big summer crafty guy. Domestos are fine when I’m being social. I’ll shift back to crafties soon with fall options dropping.

You can take Chad out of Nky, but you can’t take the Nky out of Chad.

Fun little weekend, even saw Geese at the Lake. I really like his in laws, they are Lake people.

Downside lost an anchor. Guess the shackle came loose. Upside, it’s prime day and should have a new one by this weekend.

While giving up meat will never be a long term option for me, can skip a few meals just crushing fresh country vegetables. Mercy we picked up some nice ones last night.

Jason Jarvi. He's just tough to beat out there, he wins damn near everything. He had it to -5 at one point.

Jasper fired a 70 Sunday, he got 3rd iirc. That guy is such a db.

I ran into that guy when I caddied for a mid amateur qualifier. He was a huge DB then too. Only time I’ve ever met the guy and he stood out as a douche so bad that I remember his name

Not only that, but the landscape is completely changing. UPS, Amazon, etc -- it's going to look completely different in a decade.

But yeah, It's a mess...they're all freaking TF out. 2 of her buddies just left for Chewy.com, lol. (great company/service, btw)
