Are there any Top 10 type programs that you would not let him play for?

Myself there are several that I would not let my son play for. Kansas, Michigan State, & UNCheats are the main 3 that I would not let my son play for. Kansas & Michigan State because of the crimes that goes on inside those 2 programs. And I certainly would not want a son of mine to play for that crooked, hypocrite Roy Williams at that academic fraud of a university. And before Pitino & Jurich got fired there would be no way that I would have ever permitted a son of mine to play at that filthy crime ridden place. But I believe since Pitino & Jurich got flushed out in the sewer that UofL has cleaned their act up.

But in all seriousness, it's your kids decision. You can't tell him where he can and can't go to college. I would never force my kid to go to UK or force him NOT to go to certain schools. If he visits there and feels at home, then so be it.

Hmm, I would talk to my son/daughter about the things that concern me and help him/her go through the process, but the last thing I'm going to do as a parent is try to control where he/she can or can't go.
I would want my son/daughter to go where he or she wants to go.

Or I could push him to duke, wear blue lipstick during games, be as vocal as possible, watch my kid get drafted in the lottery after his frosh year, then tell everybody it was a horrible experience and cbb is nothing but a prison and I was lied to. Yeah, I COULD do that.

so many other decisions come into play, going thru this with my daughter recently. Obviously if your child is a 5 star (mine is not) that changes the dynamics because they are mostly focused on their sport but its also about fit and I was surprised at her choice of schools but her choice made sense once we looked at everything.

Michigan State is the only one. There are some top 10 programs that I would prefer over others but I would let him play for any of them except ones like Michigan State where there might be some danger factor that would not want to get involved with.

I would REALLY STRUGGLE with the idea of my hypothetical son playing for Duke, UNC, Kansas or IU.

I'd rather him go to UK (obviously), Nova, Michigan, NC State, etc.

Having said that, I wouldn't stand in his way.

If it's basketball? The program that best gives him a chance to make a career of it and be successful. That would be Kentucky.

If' it's Business, Harvard (maybe, they're pretty ethically challeneged it seems).. if it's Law or Med School? Duke is on that list, for certain.

But yes, if it's basketball, Kentucky is your choice.

If UK is not an option I would encourage him to stay close to home and play at WKU (depending on who the coach is) or Vandy (I live less than an hour and a half from Nashville and really like the city).

Not sure about scholarship papers but a parent has to sign the NLI if the athlete is a minor. I think UK was the victim of this in the past for a player during Tubby's time. I think it was Glenn Rice but it has been a while.

I wouldn't try to tell him he couldn't make his own decision. However, if there are programs at the time ( my son is eight) that have rape or sex scandals, I would do my best to steer him away from those schools. I would let him know that one choice can change your whole life and how you are perceived by others. I wouldn't want him viewed as a sexual predator because others on his team made poor decisions. Of course I would push for UK but also would want him to do what's best for his future. So if baseball is his dream ( which he has shown some natural ability and has the right build for it) I would hope he chooses the college that helps him reach the next level. If you give your child the right guidance, they will make the right choice, without ever feeling like they were forced.

Wow. IMO, a good parent has to be involved in the college decision process. Failing to be involved is failing to be a good parent to me.

Especially if they are a 5 Star and inundated with offers. Hopefully parents can give their kids good advice and the kid can listen. It really should be a family decision with the decision coming down to the kid after the parents help him narrow it down to the best schools for him.

If I raised him the right way, the way I was raised by a UK only daddy, he would know where he was going and he would be anxious to sign on the dotted line.

So my 5* son would automatically eliminate UNC, Duke, Kansas, IU and UL. Although UL and IU are no longer Top 10 type programs.

The fact that we are on a message board indicates we are big UK fans. If my son were a five star level player, I would like to think we would go through the school selection process together. Growing up he was watching every UK game being played. He would have been cheering and crying along with his family. He would have grown up loving UK. So on the day HE decides his college choice I hope our visits, investigations, conversations about pros and cons all come into play. He makes his choice and I will be happy because I already know he will select the Kentucky hat.

Programs I'd Avoid:

1. Michigan State--Izzo has always been a control freak. Jaren Jackson Jr watching Gavin Schilling, Xavier Tillman, Ben Carter cut into his minutes was laughable. Bridges still can't dribble, go right, or pass, and everything is about him. These "problems" at MSU and specifically the basketball program have gone on for a while too. Look up Appling, Dawson, Payne, etc.....

2. Texas--Shaka Smart can't coach offensive basketball.

3. Arizona--See Shaka comments and raise them with Miller

4. Cincinnati--Mick Cronin is an A-hole. Combo of Izzo and Smart/Miller weaknesses.

5. UVA-- I'd never watch my son play if he chose that crap. That's NOT basketball and so happy that approach to the sport was put in spotlight against MD Baltimore-County. The object is to play and outscore your opponent, not limit possessions and when you do that, you keep mediocre/less talented teams in the game and add pressure to your own offensive possessions. Hate Bennett Ball and always have--be it UW Green Bay, Wisconsin, Washington State, or now UVA.
