I get exactly what you're saying. He's just not a high flying lanky 6'7 but I think his size is legit. He reminds me alot of Paul Pierce. That's just my opinion though. He's a bully but he's not going to give ya the WCS Florida dunks. I keep thinking about Paul Pierce when I watch him. Granted, it's only been from stuff available online and the All Star circuit but that's the comparison that comes to mind for me.
Thanks. Grew up in Ft Thomas until 6th grade btw, then Lexington.

I LOVE how Hagans didn't quit on the play and was a second or so away from getting the strip.

This. Was the first thing I noticed. BOTH our guys didn’t give up on that play. And Hagans will learn not to foul at the end there but my goodness....that hustle.

I can’t tell if the comments in this thread are serious. We just spent a year with Diallo on the roster and hearing “I don’t care how high he can jump; I want basketball players, not athletes.” So Cal recruits a really fundamentally sound basketball player, and people are like:

“Um...so...he doesn’t jump very high, does he?

I question whether he is a legitimate 6’6”. How is his vertical(no not his walk)? Want to believe all the hype and positive reviews about KJ but he seems undersized in the videos I’ve seen. Yes I realize he’s an all American 5* and a coveted recruit. Please assuage my ungrounded fears.
Really? I actually think he looks bigger and longer than his actual listings. You should have zero "ungrounded fears" regarding this kid. I look for him to lock up RJ in November, as well as any player Cal sends him out to shut down. Kid has the DILLIGAF attitude and I love it. Probably the most important piece of this coming season's team, outside of Travis. JMO.

I hope he goes insane with transition offense like MKG did. Another layer of offense, we have missed recently .

I just want someone to try and dunk on people like Archie Goodwin did. I know some on here don't like the guy and (undeservedly) blame him for 2013, but you can't take away his ability to absolutely crush souls when dunking.

I want KJ to do that. Try and jump over someone on a fast break and make sure they hear about the poster they were on when they return for their 10th year college anniversary.

That's good too.

But remember Portland (I think) and MKG. Oh my.

I could be wrong but I think MKG and Archie both dunked on someone from Portland. Both were amazing as well (though Archie's may have been a very bad charging call).

With KJ, I could care less whether he plays above the rim or not. I just love that he's a 3-level scorer with a nasty attitude.

No, don’t worry that much, just kinda a little underwowed by KJ’s videos. He doesn’t seem to be his stated height and dunks like a 5’10” guy. I’ve likely read much of what you have, including how hard he plays. I also understand not judging a player by over hyped videos. I get that my concern here is likely senseless.

First, we had Karl Anthony Towns the slow walker. Now we have Keldon Johnson the low dunker. I don't know if Cal is just unlucky or he can't spot these obvious things. But it is getting tiresome.

(I predict 'low dunker' ends up with a special place on this board, like the infamous critique of KAT's walk, after it became clear he was destined to greatness.)

He dunks like a 5’10 guy???

Even high quality athletes at 5’10 and a bit beyond don’t dunk off of that step through move.

I’m 5’10 and even though I want to act like I can dunk with ease, tennis balls, volleyballs and 28.5 basketballs in a controlled environment don’t really count. Most players don’t put their head at the rim, even though it is easy to think that way with all of the talent we’ve had.

Keldon is gonna be just fine.

Watch his highlights. He’s not getting up very high at all. I can dunk a tennis ball, used to be able to do a volleyball at 5’8”.
A dunk is a dunk and 2 points is obviously 2 points, but his game is just barely above the rim.
Maybe more like this?

Congrats on your Fat Hami. Now go back to the dead dook boards.

Yeah, lets see him hit 6/10 from the free throw line. I literally think Diallo had less than 5 open court dunks all year so it's not like Zion is going to be doing this stuff in games.

Well he shot 81% during his senior year, so there's that.

I was never as big a fan of Zion as most of this board was, when it was assumed he was headed to UK, but it's swung so far in the other direction that folks are going to be surprised that he's pretty damn good, even if only the 3rd best player on the team.

Glad we get to settle it on the court, first game. Got my tickets last weekend. Should be epic.

Williamson is a monster!

Love his game and would have liked to have had him.

However, in hind sight, I think UK might be better off with an experienced grad transfer in Travis and a long Cal type big in Montgomery on the team.

If Williamson comes here, we probably miss out on those two guys.

We would be talking about 6'6 Williamson and 6'7 Washington playing inside for us.

That's a really skilled, but very short, frontline.

Also, Washington might have left as well knowing he would have had to play the 5 most of the time with Williamson pencilled in at the 4.

I think Williamson helped us in the long run by going to Duke.

Now if we could have gotten Williamson and Travis or Williamson and Montgomery, that would be different. I just don't think we get those guys with Williamson and Washington already in the fold.

Any half way decent player can shoot a high percentage in high school. Some of the competition allows you to inflate those numbers. Let's wait and see how he does against some real college defenses.

We are going to love this kid! Remember when he D up on Barret at the mcdonalds took a charge and blocked a shot helping his team win. He yelled as he went to the time out. "He's got my spot over and over talking about Barrets Ranking. Dude is a competitive beast!

Dude missed a dunk...

I thought things were out of hand when grown ups started salivating over 18 year old kids who haven't played a lick of big time college ball yet. But 18 year old kids, missing dunks...come BBN...This is Kentucky Basketball...

This is something IU fans get excited about...

I don't know, he's not looking all that fat anymore. I'm curious how high this is. Guessing it starts at the height of the basket so maybe he's getting up to 12 feet or so...

This is hilarious. You’ve all prided yourselves on pure basketball players since I can last remember. Now you get an elite athlete, and all you want to do is show off his jumping ability. Athleticism is great, but please spare me. I just watched Hamidou Diallo for a full season. Give me the best basketball player.

Also, I’d bet money that Zion is better than Reddish next year. Reddish is sofffTTT.

Of course the dude who doesnt know how to do a basic search questions whether he's a legit 6'6 when he's been measured multiple times at events. This can be found with a simple google search.
