That's uh.. different than what I thought your take was above. Hard to tell what's facetious and what isn't on the forums.

These recruits aren't "bailing" (if that post above was sarcasm, again hard to tell).. it seems they are leaving in part because they are unsure of their roles.

seems to me they're leaving early because that's the **** Cal sells in his pitch to all recruits in the top 30 or so and then when he can't really deliver on it and continues to recruit the best of the best every year the guys in the previous classes are left wondering what their place is because Cal recruits too well.

So yea.. their roles and stuff.

We agree on every single thing except the fluke Duke thing. In 2015, I feel like UK would've beaten Duke in the final but UK had to play a better team in the Final Four. I believe that Wisconsin team was better than Duke but having to play UK in the Final Four and then turning around 2 days later and having to play that Duke team was too much. The makeup of that Duke team almost mirrored the UK 2012 team.

But yea. if things don't change UK is likely to continue to have several early season losses, stumble their way through conference while the team learns how to play/Cal learns how to coach em, get a 4-5 seed at best, and then hope for some upsets.

Cal has to learn how to convince some guys to hang around 3-4 years. Has to.
I'll never figure out how Duke managed to beat Wisconsin twice that year, once being in Madison. Reason being, I thought Wisconsin had a superior team to that of Duke in 2015, also.

Wisconsin was better. Objective numbers say so. That's basketball. UK beats Wisconsin in the Final Four and I think they beat Duke by 5-7 in the finals. 40-0. Should've been.

Inconsistent officiating came into play in that FF. The refs were all over the place in all three games. Also, that tourney was setup for Duke to win from the jump. We would've had to play three top five teams in order to win the title: ND, Wisconsin and Duke. Meanwhile, Duke's toughest pre-title game was GONZAGA. We were the undefeated overall number one seed and received that **** draw. Duke got our draw, I'm convinced of it. Absolutely ridiculous.

So green was in Cal's doghouse? Then he was let out on limited leash? Now they reconciled, but green's circle feel as though Cal no longer give's Quade the best shot at NBA? Im mean I never saw Green as OAD, not even a 2 and gone...look in league and how many people are 5'11"? How realistic are people in his circle expectations...im hard on Green, thought he played a lot of me vs we ball, believe one time a player went congratulate him but snubbed player, so watched him more and never seemed as enthused for others play, but I thought I saw a change in the latter part of losing streak...
I don't know when for sure, but during that Auburn loss I saw positives from team as whole

Her is my question. Why does UK have this stigma that if u don't leave after one year u are either, not that good or u are a failure for not being one and done? Who gives us this reputation?

-Our Fans
-Media
-Cal
-opposing coaching staffs
-the player (his inner circle/family)
-all of the above

I ask because I honestly don't know why players feel like they need to move on at the maximum of 2 yrs in Lexington. I know we don't usually recruit outside the top 50 and most of these kids all think they are goin to the league, but why is it only at UK that is perceived as a failure

These kids don’t believe Cal after 2 years. Sometimes after 1. Sorta the reason why it pissed me off when Cal told Tyler Ulis not to come here if he didn’t think he was a one and done. People know I’ve said this since it happened. If you know me as a poster, you know I’ve said it. Was dumb. DUMB.

That's not what Cal said. Ullis said Cal asked him if he believed he'd play in the NBA one day. Told him if he didn't think he could make it because of his size then wasn't offering. Never asked if he thought he was one & done.

I sware you guys get mixed up.

Big difference in Quade and Mason athletically..Have you seen some of Mason's dunks? Quade will never make NBA money.. His circle better be looking for jobs.

Mason can dunk? You sure about that?

Also it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if Quade never had any “back issues” this year and that was bs to sit him while they had their little spat. He never showed signs of being hurt at all.

I also read the other day that his inner circle wasn't happy when he was moved from point. They said he had to adjust 3 times and he wasn't used correctly. Yeah, because he isn't a first round pick Cal didn't use him correctly LMFAO. I mean he played 30mins a game. What the hell is wrong with people, Shai made us so much better running point. Hate to break it to his circle, but he is a 4 year player. If he sticks with it and works hard he might make some money overseas or maybe the G league, but Green is not as of now anywhere close to a NBA PG. These people must live with their heads in the clouds.

I like him, I think he would do well to stick it out here instead of tuck and run. All that will happen if he transfers to one of the schools mentioned is he will not be heard from again, not in any major way anyway. People need a reality check, coming to Ky doesn't automatically reserve you an NBA spot after 1 year. Work and earn it, if you are a 3-4 year player then you are period. His best chance to ever have a chance at his dreams and get max exposure is staying here and working his *** off. If not, go, getting sick of these kids thinking the world owes them something. You have played 1 year in college and not won much of anything, Dam! The culture of basketball from early to the NBA needs to be shaken up. It's getting ridiculous. Green and his inner circle, what a joke!

I do think I read that Cal told him he wasn’t a four-year player, but that is very different from just saying he’s a OAD, and that’s what attracted Tyler to Kentucky. He’s one with whom I have zero problem with his decision. He tore it up as a sophomore and his stock was peaked. He was as ready as he was going to get.

Sometimes it just boils down to match ups.

Kinda like in 2014 when we beat UofL twice and they had ran UCONN out of the building and then UCONN beat us for the title.

We should have beaten Wisconsin, but they were probably the worst match up for us in the country.

Obviously, Duke matched up with them better than we did, and we may have killed Duke if we'd have played them.

Its difficult for an inner circle to accept that the guy in front of you at point guard is a guy originally ranked behind you. That guy also earned to be on the floor 35+ min a game and get drafted in the lottery. That should tell you that if you are going to get onto the floor its not going to be in that guys spot. Sooooo you move to a 2 and show that from that position you can be a 3 point threat and play tenacious D.

I think that worked out reasonably well for him....but if your posse cannot get that you are not better than SGA like the rest of the world has determined....then you are going to probably pout and think about a move.

Really appreciate CoachX11’s insight.

This will make me sound like a spoiled fan...but it really feels like we’re at a crossroads as a program. Obviously many other fans would envy our current position. I’ve just always maintained Cal needs that second title to shut up any and all critics. I don’t know if he can do that without a single junior/senior contributor. It’s never been done.

matches up with what i've heard. cal wasn't going to go into 2018 with just 1 PG so he started searching and found out there are guards that can be pulled into the 2018 class that are pretty damn good. now that wheels are in motion cal isnt going to stop and look like an ***, QG is going to have to sleep in the bed he made. he had his chance to stop this. if he wants to come back now...he will have more competition than he had before. i'm guessing he wont and honestly that might be the best choice for everyone.

i like green. as i like skj. but if these guys dont want to be here, good luck on your next stop.

We saw our share of “chemistry issues” during the season. I recall mention being made of Quade trying to find his role with the emergence of SGA. Yet there were even UK media personalities publicly saying the team was better when Quade ran the point. I wonder how that made him feel. As others noted, he did play about 30 minutes a game. Can’t say he didn’t get pt or a chance to contribute. I’m sure it’s tough for those who have always been star players to accept a lesser role, but that’s part of it. Look at the 2014-15 team, they bought in and had an historic season. Watching Inside the Madness Episode 2 gives some insight into his situation (I think Episode 1 touched on it a little, too). There are people counting on him to make it big, that’s a lot of pressure for such a young person. I hope he stays.

Using these kids for their own financial advantage is sickening. Unrealistic expectations put a burden on these guys that should never be borne by a teenager. I can see a kid wanting to bless his Mother and Father but these hanger on loser posses need to get a job and a life and let these kids live theirs.

in the Facebook documentary he tells the team he expected Quade to have a 25 point game soon because Quade had "conquered himself finally", where most took that to be likely ******** motivation to just go out and play and not think.

Makes sense.

I thought that was odd when Cal said that in practice. Quade never saw a shot he didn't like after that. It's the only time I saw Cal say something in a practice that might have backfired.

Thanks Coach.

A lot of what you said is what I was thinking (but obviously do not have the connections you have, as just a regular fan).
I thought last season that Green was the one Cal was speaking to the most as "not yet bought in". And you could see he did play selfish a lot. Not ideal, but especially from a guy wanting to be a PG, where sharing the ball has to be top priority.
Personally I thought Green was more upset about not being the PG than being on the bench (starting games) given that he got starter minutes (4th on the team). Because of his size, if he is to ever make $ playing professionally, it will have to be as a PG and not a SG. And with the addition of Quickley and very possibly Hagans to next year, that he may see that as a sign he might be playing SG again this coming year if he stays.
And I think Cal's continuing recruiting efforts for Guards, shows that he expects Green to not be a Cat next year.

But I think if Green returns, that will show a big step in the direction of maturity for him, showing that he is not listening to his "influencers" as much now, and may be ready to "buy in to Cal's philosophy".

This. Plus anything can happen in one single game. Wisconsin couldn't have beat us in a 5 or 7 game series. But that as we all know is the NCAA tournament

I agree!

Even though they matched up well with us, we still should have beaten them.

Realistically, Ole Miss kind of laid the blue print of how to play us, and then Notre Dame almost took us out, and then Wisconsin pulled it off.

Teams started spreading us out, pulling our rim protectors away from the basket and having their guards drive the ball and we never adjusted to that.

Could Duke have beaten us doing this?

Probably not, but that was the ONLY way our 2015 team was going to get beat...

Talking about his future failures? Yeah I can think of a lot of different topics besides that.
Nobody who matters takes anyone seriously on this board...

I'm not much into negativity even though I get a little down sometimes.

I generally ignore really negative people and hope that what they say just gets washed over.

Cal looks 80. The roster turnover is surely taking an enormous effect on him. I saw a twatter video he put out but quickly deleted where he was applying for AARP but Ellen reminded him he wasn't old enough yet.

It was up maybe 15 seconds but I caught it. Wish I would've saved it.

He didn't age like this in his almost decade at Memphis.

Plus Cal's a fat now. All the fast food places in Lexington need to refuse to serve him anything but a salad about like Job B had em do Turpin in the 80s.
Only problem is Cal would just buy the place and eat what ever he wants.
