Making Senators elected by popular vote was certainly a bad move. Prior to that, when they acted as advocates for the states, it was in the best interest of the state governments to send the best and brightest to the Senate so they could actually get what they wanted. That wasn't always the case, but it's sure better than having two houses with people beholden entirely to popularity contests

Not a fan of Citizens' United and - from what I've heard and read - Kennedy was somewhat naive about its long-term ramifications.
Once the solicitor general in the Citizens’ United could not give a “hell no” to the question of whether the government could ban political movies and books, the die was probably cast.

Anything beyond that is suicidal.
