Cal had that conversation with Knox. Knox didn’t listen. Neither did Teague and many others. If Green wants to leave and I’m not saying he is, Cal is obviously taking steps to soften the blow.

Cals a media genius. No way he thought for a second Knox was coming back.

He knows we want guys to return, he articulates his message the way he wants it interpreted. I am glad he put that out there, and I was happy to see Knox show that amount of respect. It's nice to see them actually take the time to appreciate the fans. But I believe that's all that was

Cal is not the type to cry over his raisin brand if a player is thinking of transferring. He's just that way. There will be no Roy Williams sob story and pitch, but I can admit it's effective.

I would call Green's parents and say if you want him come and get him. But you will have to come through an Italian ballsack to get him.

Why in the world do that?

Especially if better players are out there this year or next?

If Green hinted at transferring Cal is not going to wait around and be screwed over.

So much speculation here and none of us really knows what is going on. Thus it is comical to even get frustrated much less pissed about something of which we have no idea.

There might be better players projected, remember SGA was a 4 star.

Green is the exact type of guard that I would want on my team for 3-4 years. But like you said, Cal isn't going to do that and will let him walk because he's eyeing other players.

At least you admit what's going on.

In the end we have:
PJ
JV
Green
Nick
Baker
Gabe
Diallo
I can't see us losing more than 2-3 of them, 3 being more than I expect so we still return 4-5 which is miles ahead of last year when you think of the talent that would be coming back. Throw in an amazing #1 recruiting class and we will be great. I'm good if the worst happens and we only return 4 PJ, JV, Baker and Nick, but I think Gabe comes back so looking at 1 Jr. and probably 4 sophs. In a Cal system that is pretty dam good. Returning 5 guys with experience is good for us.

Also you guys have to remember with the talent we have and coming in and the weakest draft in along time coming we could lose 6-7 guys next year easy. Mind as well load up as many as possible.

Everyone touting Green will turn on him in an instant if Tre Jones eats his lunch first game of season.
Green has not proven that he's ready to be an elite level pg.
Right now his only proven commodity is that of a bench shooter.

We may well lose a ton of guys but I think the annual weakest draft talk is almost purely because we just haven't seen most of the guys selected against proper competition and actual defense yet.

I dunno but it feels like I've seen a few weakest drafts next year magically become a deep one by the time the event actually happens.

Right now they have Bolden as a first round pick next year if that gives you any indication.

I totally understand.

I want a coach who will recruit the best players.

Just because you love Green (and you dont see him everyday in practice)..... doesnt mean squat.

The facts are Green lost his spot and couldnt get it back. Although I still believe we would have been a better team with Green at PG instead of Shai.

And Green was not good defensively.

Talk of Green transferring just might have something to do with Green.

I definitley want Green to retrun.

But I want a coach who is not as dumb as some fans who would rather watch a player multiple years instead of recruiting better ones that may be available.

And if they are not better than Green, then Green can win his spot.

Absolutely stupidity of fans not wanting Cal to recruit the best.

Absolutely stupidity of fans not wanting Cal to recruit great players when current ones have been debating transferring out of the program.

I completely understand recruiting over players. But Green isn't the kind of guard you want to recruit over(loosely) because there may be a more talented player 5 years from now currently on a high school roster. Quade was excellent as a freshman for a 3/4 year player. He's got it, I'd hate to see him go.

And maybe Quade wants out. Maybe Cal doesn't really care either way, he's a recruiter, he won't lose sleep. I don't think Cal necessarily wants 4 year Quade Greens. But some refuse to admit / acknowledge / entertain the idea all together. If it is what it is then fine. Cal has plenty of success to point to as validation it can work. Wont argue it, but we are not in 2011.

There's no guarantee any of the guards we have lined up would be as imacptful as Green as a sophomore or junior. Cal is not getting John Walls. I'll take a junior in Green anyday over the question marks.

Nobody here should admit anything just because you believe something... seriously?

Why wouldnt Cal want a 4 year Green?

And we should try to recruit over every player we have every season if at all possible and encourage competition.

What kind of coach tells a kid its your team for 4 years i will never recruit a player at your spot that is better than you?

Im sure as hell glad he didnt do that with Willie when he signed Kat, or Alex when he signed Randle, etc etc etc....

This is KY we will always recruit the best we can.

I cant get even close to agreeing with you on any of this other than Green should have been playing point this past season.

Shave a few percentage points off his three and the most ardent supporters would be the ones to give Quade the bum's rush off campus if they could.

I prefer he stays I think he can contribute and has his strengths (good shot, shows good vision) but there is an awful lot of consternation about a sub mediocre defender that struggles to create offense, can't but a defender on their heels, cannot really create his own shot, and is a dubious in his ability get into the middle of the floor and make stuff happen for himself or others.

He is a piece that can contribute while he grows, that's it. I hope he does that but if he chooses otherwise that is on him.

Yea we won't agree here.

Im not sure we win a title with the current way. We don't have the bosses of the classes and the 10-25 range are highly unpredictable. This season a 4 star out performed them all.

Guys like SKJ transferring doesn't matter. Guys like Green are a blow.

Again, and I don't know why some won't accept this. Cal cannot afford to have 4 year Quade Greens if he wants to keep his vision of recruiting stable. It's simply not possible. Cal recruits the way he does for numerous reasons. It's why ive always said I don't believe he pushes them out. But he does need them to go. And that's why he doesn't kick and scream like most coaches do to keep guys happy and on the roster. If it's a situation where a player might transfer that's not a OAD, Cal gets to do what he loves most, recruit a better player in his eyes. And with a guy like Green I'm not agreeing with said strategy right now.

We aren't actually that far from each other on that part. I'm just going further than you believe it to be. People get very upset when someone suggest Cal prefers to recruit younger talent over a stable roster. I don't see it as debatale. And its his style, so I can't figure out why some cringe. Not believing it is fine, but when people get bent out of shape over it, it's unessesary.

Cal does not need a non top-10, 5'11 player to leave early to sustain his recruiting success.

What are you thinking?

You are correct if a John Wall or AD or RJ Barrett didnt leave early.

But not a Quade Green... seriously?

Get over the roster turnover drama you have been experiencing the last couple of weeks and look at what you are saying.

Green is not elite.

Not one recruit gives a damn about Green.. we have just signed 2 PGs that think they can beat him out already and now maybe a third.

We didnt have a super elite player on the roster that would hurt recruiting by not going early, even if Knox would have stayed.

Green very likely wouldn’t start next year. Maybe as a junior, but I’m not turning away talent in the hopes someone all of a sudden turns it around several years from now. His responsibility is to put the best roster he can together every year. You’re asking him to sacrifice success next year and maybe the year after in the hopes that Green is great as a Junior or Senior. This isn’t on Cal, this is on Green not being willing to compete for playing time, if this hypothetical situation happened.

Much rather have Green. Maxey is kind of redundant by already having Hagans and he’s also a non shooter. It’s ok to have a bunch of guards if they all bring something different. Green has been through the wars, knows what to expect and can shoot.
Maxey is a capable shooter. With his explosiveness and ability to get in the lane, defenders are forced to pick their poison.

I thought Green might be on his way out when Hagans committed and now that Cal's pushing for Maxey to reclassify it seems like a foregone conclusion, imo. It's hard to see him coming back and being the 3rd string PG and backup SG. It's unfair to him, so I'd have no issues with him going somewhere to play big minutes at his natural position.

Cal carefully orchestrates NBA departures/transfers/commitments so it wouldn't surprise me to see Green announce a transfer this weekend if Cal nails down Maxey on his visit. Remember, Cal's meeting with Maxey this weekend for the second time this week.

You could see that Green didn’t like Cal in his face. It was very obvious when I watched in Boise. I called it and I think Richards is also at risk.

You can’t win championships being a freshmen NBA prep team with those not getting drafted transfering elsewhere to develop. Cal needs to be held accountable or he can GTFO. Him nor the kids he is bringing in care about the name on their chest.

Read in this thread that Cal plays upperclassmen over freshman. Sometimes you wonder if folks actually watch games.

Cal is NEVER going to recruit someone and play him 4 years and not try to get a better player at his position, particularly at PG. Now actually I wish he would particularly at shooting guard.

Cal told Ulis not to come if he was planning on playing 3 years. Tyler is at least twice the player Quade is and Cal got him out with some guaranteed money because Fox was coming in. IMO Tyler with Fox 2 years ago and a senior Tyler this past year was easily the better plan for UK.

Now if Tyler gets a second contract of note then that was at least best for him. But if not, then I'll just continue to think it was a mistake. Remember being thrilled when he committed to UK thinking finally there's a guy going to be on the team who can play and will stay all 4 years. WRONG.

So if some of you bemoan the possibility of Green leaving I can understand the emotion of it but I don't see it based on any on court observances. Quade is a Cal backup who was signed in hopes of getting Bamba and the others. He was never intended to be Cal's PG of the future.

Quade's strength is being a ball dominant PG in a patterned offense. Does that sound like UK under Cal to you? Kid can shoot a bit and has a good basketball IQ. But he has no lateral quickness and thus it's hard for him to defend his position and that's usually a problem at the point.

If he stays fine. If he goes UK will be ok. And Quade likely will be as well.

Ulis was never going to get a higher draft than after his sophomore year. He is 5’9 after all! 5 star kids are expecting to go to the NBA! You can’t recruit the best of best expecting them to stay 4 Years it just isn’t happening. We either recruit the best of the best or we go after 3 stars and 2 stars and hope they develop to a level to compete at a blue blood level! We’re UK not Uof L

There is no guarantee that Quade will be more of a force than the guys coming in either because there are no guarantees and the guy has done nothing worthy of clearing the decks for. He is solid but far from spectacular.

Of all the guards that have come through here this is the one the decks must must be cleared for? Strange talent evaluation to me.

I understand the desire to have some experience on the roster but it only spends so far. There is plenty of experience on all kinds of teams that don't even merit a tournament invite, plenty of experience that does make the cut goes right back home.

I also don't get how a guy of such estimated impact is affected by
random freshmen that aren't all that anyway as a junior and senior.

That doesn't project any confidence to me but rather some kind of article of faith that pretty much boils down to add time and pray for good things and (implied) especially good health since we are randomly committed to building around a solid but again unspectacular guard with a lot to work on that at 18 or 19 is already missing time with a bad back.

I like Quade but I don't like him so much that I'm supportive of gimping the team to make sure he has every confidence that the way is cleared for him and is the anointed appointed one because that is delusional as cashing your paychecks for lottery tickets to me.

If that is what Green needs to be here then I'd advise him he can transfer to where ever will kiss his behind like that or he can grow up, compete, improve, develop, and contribute and if it is sincere in those efforts I would try very hard to forget this conversation as we move forward.

Who believes this nonsense? For a 6 foot relatively unathetic player that though is a natural point has to make some adjustments to effectively man the spot full time rather than being best able to contribute as a short and talent limited 2???

I don't get it, the fixation seems extreme to me. Wrong headed too, coddling is a highway to weakness for all involved.

Have you ever managed a team? Did you hire over your direct reports every year? Tell me how that went.

Name a business that every year your potential replacement is hired, and I'll show you a dysfunctional business.

Guys like Cal and K pretty much get to pick their rosters. If they can't get by without a top 10 player at every position, they're doing a pretty ****** job of building a team and making it more than just individual talent.

People are acting like Cal's assembling this stable of guards to push Green out the door. The likely scenario is Cal already knows he's leaving and is scrambling for replacements. He may not know 100 percent what Washington and Gabriel are doing, but if someone's transferring, he absolutely knows.

I would love to keep green, but I want a winner..... I want guys who have a killer instinct. Some one who think when a new guys comes in that he has to come and take my minutes, not just role over and quit. The millennial generation...... I want stone cold ballers who refuse to lay down.....
So many things wrong with this. Millennial generation gave us Wall, Cousins, Davis, Gilchrist, Towns, etc. And Green owes us nothing. If we're recruiting over him, that guy has one chance at college ball. Go somewhere and play.

Brunson out, Green in.
Nova has more guards on roster signed or coming in than UK has right now and even if both Maxey and Hagans reclassifies. Competition will result in us having the better pg, give me a kid who fights for his position, not one who expects it any day. Green gotta remember, earned not given

I hope Green stays and Wenyen as they have no business leaving. Having players like PJ.and Vandy back is huge, but even with our great class the only domino we are missing is who is AD? Who is T Jones? Who is Randle or KAT? These were our absolute championship teams and contenders. I don't see one player of that caliber. Now Nova has proven a deep talented group.can dominate but in our system those are the guys over 9 years who have succeeded.

No one except Green+family/ Cal and the coaches/ players have any "read" on the possibility of QG transferring from UK.

Has QG's rumored transfer talk forced Cal's hand by the addition of potential new back-court players or does Cal not want a repeat of being undermanned (injuries) in the backcourt??

I don't get the impression from QG that he is a cut-in-run transfer player who feels threatened when it comes to competition. But what do I know, I'm just a fan.

The writing is on the wall unfortunately. I think that Green didn't fit into the system as well as he had hoped and my nephew attends a couple of classes with him and says he typically looks miserable. The rumor around the students is that he's extremely homesick and hasn't been adjusting well to being away from Philly and wants to go home and enroll at Villanova or St. Joes to be close to his family.

I thinkt he fact that Cal is trying to convince Tyrese Maxey to commit and reclassify says all you need to know about this. I expect Maxey to commit at some point soon and this will soon be followed by an announcement that Green will transfer.

Cal is prepping for his departure by bringing in several better recruits.

Writing is on the wall.
What writing is that? SGA is gone, and Diallo is probably gone. Hagans and Maxey are 2019 recruits. Baker has missed an entire year with a knee injury. I see no reason for Green to leave. His high school coach says they haven't discussed it. Regarding your speculation about Calipari's departure, let's call that what it is. Trolling.

Complete rubbish.

My whole thing with Green is he is completely unrealistic about his ability. He is a 4 year player and a backup on top 20 team. The fact that he was a McDonald’s all American I think put unreal expectations in his head. I am fine with confident players but after this year he needs to realistic about his role and abilities.
