I think we better hope Vernon Carey stays in 2019.

Duke is just missing a center. I think he's leaning that way anyway, but a reclass where he's the only option at the 5 for a loaded team that is just missing a center makes a whole lot of sense.
Nope Duke has backed off(sorry old info) still dont think Duke is as strong as it was believed.

I will say, if it's a guard, Maxey would be a dynamite fit. If that's the "replacement" for Quade, we got better.

Also, random thought on Maxey:

SMU hired his dad a while back to strategically get around that restriction about hiring parents within X time of a kid enrolling on campus.

If he's looking to move up, dad and SMU are off the table because of the rule. Cal visited Maxey recently. Maybe the family wants to make a move and this takes all the pressure off everyone.

If the reclass is based on losing more, then it's a guard. So we add Maxey if Green leaves. Then if Wenyen leaves we add one of the grad transfer bigs like Daum, Travis or Mayo.

Does that cancel out, by the way? If you trade a sophomore for a freshman but a junior for a fifth year guy, that's a +1 net experience right?

Gonna be hard for anyone but UK to control their own fate. To many shooters and rebounders to zone us. To deep with not much drop off for foul trouble to get us. I originally thought that was the plan this season and if we had been one hundred percent healthy it might have worked.

If it’s a guard for the reclass it’s Jalen Lecque he’s been rumored for a while now and if it’s contingent on someone else leaving then Lecque makes sense

Just for reference:

James Wiseman was born March 31, 2001. Just turned 17.

Vernon Carey 2/25/2001. A month older than Wiseman.

Jalen Lecque 6/13/2000. Will be 18 this summer.

Tyrese Maxey 11/4/2000. Will be 18 this fall.

Not sure where this info is coming from - Duke just paid him an in-home visit yesterday and all the Duke fans on Twitter are already speculating on a re-class.
Yes ur right. I read an old article wheres his dad said they hadn't heard from Duke since dec. And listed several other schools as those who were working the hardest for Vernon. So yea u are right

Duke is missing anyone that can consistently hit a shot outside 15 feet and the ability to play any semblance of defense.

Cal led Duke into the OAD strategically. He’s got em where he wants them now. They have no shooters and no veteran leaders while he behind the scenes began building depth and experience. Like the Rat (k) following the pied piper to the river! Cal is a genius!! :joy:[banana]

I’m not sure to be honest how that works.
As the NBA draft rule stands, a player has to be one year removed from his HS graduation AND turn 19 the year of the draft he's entering.

Neither Wiseman or Vernon Carey turn 19 until 2020. It doesn't matter if they're eligible to play college basketball in the 2018-19 season, they still won't be eligible for the 2019 draft.

Which is why talk about them reclassifying has always been far-fetched, and would be unprecedented.

I’m not sure to be honest how that works.

You have to be two years removed from your original high school graduating class AND turn 19 in the calendar year of the draft.

Wiseman just turned 17 two weeks ago.

If he enrolled for next season, he wouldn't be 19 until two months before the 2020 draft, nor would he be two years removed from high school before then.

Carey is about six weeks older, but is in the same boat. The thought of either of those guys playing two years of college basketball might be the biggest recruiting grab of the last decade for whoever pulled it off.

I just don't know why either kid would do it. You reclassify to get to the draft faster if you're a kid who was held back for sports at some point.

Edit: just noticed MJ beat me to it, said it better than I did and in fewer words.

That would sure suck if it happened.
Yes, it would, but in a certain sense I don't know that it helps that we're talking about Duke.

That would be 2 years in a row that Duke pulled some academically sketchy last-minute maneuver to snag an elite player. Vernon Carey might have a perfect SAT score and end up a Rhodes Scholar- I have no idea what kind of student he is- but has he been planning to graduate in 3 years since he first started HS? Something like that usually involves a lot of planning (unless you're Marvin Bagley).

There are other schools in the NCAA besides Duke. There are other schools in Duke's conference. I think there will be a lot of turned heads if it starts to look like Duke can get any player eligible at any time that suits their agenda, in ways that don't seem to be an option for everyone else.

But I can't be totally hypocritical about it, since I'm rooting for UK to pull it off. If someone, UK or Duke, gets a kid at that level to commit to playing 2 years when they don't have to, it's a huge coup. And I guess you can kind of, sort of, look at it as something like all the football recruits who enroll in college early (though that's just by 1 semester, not a full year where they're actually playing for the team).

"Reportedly"; "there are rumors".

If you google "Vernon Carey reclassify" the only things that come up talking about him possibly reclassifying are message boards like this one.
Part of the problem with both him and Wiseman. There's no separation of rumor from reality, and it's all a big lump of uncertainty.

Also comes back to what happened with Bagley. Bagley was in denial mode all last spring and summer, then it happened anyway. Quickly. Prior to that, no one would have thought twice about this, it would have just been "no, these guys just turned 17, how could they even do this?".
