Sorry Bernie, I forgot to add the caveat: Except for pedophiles.

But I work in the heart of Portland and have yet to meet a bad teacher. All I see are dedicated professionals racking their brains and doing everything they can to ensure each child gets a quality education in an environment where most parents would rather brag to their friends that they went off on a teacher instead of working with that teacher to better their child's learning experience. When I do meet a bad one, I'll be sure to pull them aside and let them know what's up.

I watched House with Spanish subtitles for two semesters during Spanish I and II.

This is GYERO, jackass.

You think any of us are actually impressed by this? Ha. False. Our admins do better than your GS-14.

Stop trying so hard. Jackass.

Like I said, I'm not knocking the profession at all. It's a noble profession for people who willingly go into it knowing the difficulties. Especially where you work, I know it can be a huge struggle. Not a ton of parental support.

That said...you know the Barbers, Bagshaws, or Jolly's?

My mom was a teacher. My stepmother was a teacher. My grandmother was a teacher.

Pretty sure they didn't work for Fortune 500 companies, nor did they want to.

My brother is a teacher, my SIL is a teacher, my grandmother was a teacher. In other words...irrelevant.

Offense will be fine. Pitching will not.

That’s probably right. I’m hoping some of these young guys can establish themselves early and really seize their opportunity. It’s really asking a lot of them though.

Wasn’t thrilled to see Garrett stuck in the bullpen. At this point, I’d rather see him getting the chance at the fifth starter spot than Reed. Much more upside. He’s got filthy stuff.

I'm confused why teachers are pissed? They restored their benefits. The way they did it was stupid, but they got what I thought they were asking for. No?

I'd love to see someone sneak something into one of these bills no one reads that is absolutely absurd. Something along the lines of "All legislators voting for this bill shall consume 2.43 liters of liquefied pig **** per day for the next 489 days at 1:42 p.m. All legislators referenced herein shall live stream each liquified **** ingestion on Facebook, Twitter or Periscope. Failure to comply shall result in immediate execution by any citizen of Kentucky."

Education is a public good that benefits all of society. It reduces crime, drives economic activity, and generally improves quality of life for everyone.

No offense, but selling insurance, doing advertising work for Toyota, fixing people's HVAC systems, most legal work---->Not so much.

Context is important, so I'm not sure directly comparing public school teachers and people who work "normal jobs" make much sense.

-My wife has 18 years in the system. Under one of the proposed plans, she was going to be on just missing the grandfathered in portion. I think she would have then be expected to not receive a pension until 60 or 65. Kind of stinks when you are 9 years away from your 27 (she would be 53) and suddenly you have to work 7 more years. I'm hoping they get it straightened out.

-I left teaching with close to 100 sick days. I get letting them accrue but I also think there should be a final cap on how much you can cash out. I should have called in sick more.

-The other problem with the pension system is that a lot of retiring teachers game the system in the last few years. They are paid for their high five years (I think it is 5). So a bunch of them become department chair, chess coach, class sponsor, teach ESS and do anything they can to bump their # up so that they get more for the pension. I disagree with that. It should just be based on the base salary.

-There are a lot of terrible teachers out there. There are some great ones too. But man, some of them have some serious mental illness.

-As someone else said, if public school teacher is such a great career move, then start making that move and enjoy the cush job. Until you are locked in a room with 30 kids for an hour and then on repeat, you have no idea how much that can wear you down.

-Found out I owe around $6300 in federal taxes on the same day that UK ***** the bed against Kansas State. Lucky for me, I had a feeling this would happen so I had socked a bunch away. Sucks though. It really sucks when my brother in law (who I know makes way more than me) says he isn't paying anything. I need to figure out what the hell I am doing wrong. So if anyone in Louisville has a good tax guy/gal, please let me know. I need some better tax planning.

The story of the Blackhawks having to go to an emergency goalie who is an accountant and plays in a rec league after their starter couldn't go and the backup got injured in the 3rd is awesome.

Watching Reds fans talk about baseball for the first 2-3 weeks of each season is always cute.

Hearing you talk about anything other than licking shower walls, masturbation or gravy is always cute, too. But I'll talk Reds year round, if you'd like.

I'm not a band wagon type of guy. Sorry, not sorry. 1st place or last place, I love the Reds.

Do I think they'll be a serious contender this year? No.

They need one more round of trading a few players for pitching prospects and hope a few of them actually pan out. Look for Duvall, Schebler, Iglesias, Gennett and maybe Hamilton to be dealt by the trade deadline this year.

***INSIDE SCOOP - KEEP IT HERE*** Scooter showed up at one of the Redsfest events drunk and punched a Frisch's Big Boy mascot.

REDS BASEBALL... MAYBE NEXT YEAR, BABY!

Friday random here: the biggest group of slobs you will see at an airport is a women's college sports team. No matter what time it is, they always looked like they just rolled out of bed and put on dirty team sweats and Nike sandals. They take over a section of the gate area and half of them lay on the floor. Soccer teams are the worst offenders btw; tennis is close second. Props to UK track btw. Men were wearing ties and women were dressed nicely as well.

They do represent their school as they're sporting team gear. As someone who took marketing 201 at UK, I know you don't want a bunch of nappy headed (white) hos hurting your brand.

I don’t really care. I will say this- I don’t see how you regular work travelers do it. I hate airports.

Rolling into work at 11am is lazy AF. Get it together.

Typical bleeding heart lib. Smh.

but, I'm probably just a hairy, wet ******.

Yes.

Bookmarking for August randoms.

Totally agree but something has to be done when the state can't pay for the 40BIL owed to teachers. The benefits changes I'm seeing don't look that substantial. The way it was done stinks but that's government these days.

please let me know. I need some better tax planning.

Hopefully you've progressed in the private sector being productive enough and providing a very needed service that you should be making estimated quarterly payments. If not and you're having to pay that still should indicate you're doing very well so consult with an accountant and adjust your withholdings to try and even out your liability. I would suggest anyone other than smoking Pat.

Airport bars are awesome. Probably the best place in the works to grab a couple quick beers.

TSA can SMFD, though. Just worthless, awful people.
Signed up for CLEAR in Atl. Concierge TSA*, bitches.

*in about 11 airports I rarely visit.

Being married to an elementary school teacher, every time I hear someone say "They only work 9 months out of the year" I want to punch them in the face repeatedly. While the number of days they are required to work equals to 9 months they work many more that they don't get paid extra for. It is nothing for her to be at school by 7:00 AM, work until 6:00 PM or later, come home and eat, then start grading papers until 10:00 or 11:00 PM. so basically a 14-15 hour work day. It also is nothing for her to work 2-3 days out of her spring or fall break to try and get caught up on copies, laminating things, etc. Heck she only gets a 20 minute lunch break and this is if a parent doesn't want to meet with her during that time. Some days she doesn't get a chance to go to the bathroom all day until she gets home or school is out and the kids leave. So to hear the comments from Bevin and some legislators really makes my blood boil.

I fly at least twice per week; typically through cities that have CLEAR. I do not understand how they can save you any time above what TSA pre-check offers.
For example, I was in Newark this morning - place was packed. Still made it through the ID portion of security within three minutes.

Sounds like your wife needs to learn time management.
