CAN you say congressional hearings??? That’s where Emrett and the NCAA are heading. This tops steroids in baseball. Once the feds blow the cover off this and we see the scope, Congress will get to the bottom of it and big heads will role. There is so many moving pieces and the fact the investigation is now at nikes doorstep, well some serious shat is about to go down in the next year or so.
you got a lot more confidence in the feds then I do hell couldn't convict the clintons

This is a non-issue. Bagley was actually eligible after his sophomore year, so his JR year he was only taking electives.

In addition, any money his family received was b/c his dad was a renown coach receiving a completely justifiable salary from a company from whom which wasn't even his employer.

I know this b/c Coach K said Bagley was a welcomed addition to the Duke family, so that means there is zero chance any rules could have been broken b/c the integrity of Coach K and the Duke would never be associated with any questionable activity.

Well then, it's settled! That's good enough for me. Roll eyes.

Uh - no, Marvin and his Dad were all about UK until something mysteriously changed about a year or so ago. That’s back when UK was the big leader in his Crystal Ball and most Duke recruiting guys didn’t even think Duke was seriously recruiting him.

Gosh, I wonder what happened about a year or so ago. Check out Bagley’s Dad in the UK shirt back on 2105 in this article.

I would like this a million times if it were possible cal does a great job keeping his mouth shut with all the refuce he has seen while on the recruiting trail. He stays above the fray of negative recruiting but it must be hard to not tattle on some of these media hyped coaches.

This is exactly how I remember it too. He was a UK lock, even if there was a chance of reclassifying which wasn't talked about too much, he was all UK.. and then like Wiggins, poof he was gone in an instant. I about fainted when I read Bagley was going to Duke. No way.

I'm no fan of UL, but to say that strippers created a competitive advantage for UL---thus vacating wins/title, yet 20+years of fake classes at UNC and paying kids' families to attend Duke and overlooking OBVIOUS, suspect academic kids (knowing the NCAA will likely never look at K as anything but a saint) is the height of hypocrisy. 2/5 of Duke's starting 5 this year would never have been eligible at any school in the country...but Duke. It is starting to become maddening really.

Just saw Jon givony(draft express) on Twitter saying this isn't actually against NCAA rules. And it's been going on for years with other top athletes

It's been going on for years. But it is against the rules if the payments are based on the athletes athletic performance. Renardo Sidney was ruled ineligible for this exact same reason

That's just part of the story. The rest is the connection to Duke. Nike placed this kid at Duke. They're placing other kids at Duke.

Who's involved, who's benefiting, and which players should be/should have been ineligible

It baffles me that Nike would go to all these means to plant kids at Duke when Cal has put far and away more players in the NBA in the last 9 years who have excelled and would have been great names to endorse Nike products. You would think they would be bending over backwards to keep that Pipeline of future endorsements open.

UK should consider shopping their apparel deal if the company they are contracted with is actually working against and in competition with our best interests.

Doesn't seem like much of anything. To me, this falls under the umbrella of if a kid can make money for his family then he should be able to. The only problem I would have with it is if Nike influenced Bagley to go to Duke (which they probably did). That would be the sleazy part of it for me. A kid making money for his struggling family doesn't bother me.

You're definitely right, but damn it'd be nice to see Duke get hammered. They've gotten away with so much BS over the years.

Would definitely be nice to see Duke go down in flames but hard to see where any of this would fall on Duke. Bagley could be deemed ineligible and duke forced to forfeit all their wins he played in this year but that is highly unlikely either. UK would be forced to vacate their wins over knox’s Cheeseburger before Duke received anything regarding Bagley.

Duke got him thru 2 years of school in about a week and the NCAA signed off on it sure Nike influenced him to go to Duke but I'm pretty sure they can get 16 people to swear on a stack of Bibles that they didn't. They can get as many affidavits as necessary saying the same thing. If he had tried to go ANYWHERE else he would have never played a minute of college ball last season.

Still should affect his amateurism. At UK, it would. I agree with your post but it would be nice to see some consistency regarding these types of things. UK would get creamed.

And this is the only reason why they would go to Duke.

Coach K has a record of holding guys back, we have a record of letting him go. If the family is struggling so much, why would they risk it with a guy like K? His reputation of holding guys back is well documented. He's tried to get OAD's to return as well. It simply doesn't pass the smell test.

Nike was gearing up for K's going out party and pushed them there. The Bagley's are owned by Nike. It's a case closed situation.

And again, the NCAA rules are clear about amateurism. It doesn't matter if you think the rules are stupid, they are what they are. Bagley could have joined the D league or gone overseas - if money was the ultimate factor it was there to be had. How many endorsement deals could he be signing up waiting until the draft? How many agents would hook them up while he was training for the NBA?

These are parents who want it both ways. They want their kids to enjoy a traditional route while also wanting them to be paid today. I have no sympathy for them, and this should end any discussion that bagley was ever anything more than a Nike mercenary for Duke. He was never a student.

K's position on amateurism now is that the NCAA has no business concerning itself what a kid or his family receives in high school. Really? That's the model collegiate program you want? And the media still slurps all over you as a saint? Yeah, now that Duke is bringing in these "amateur" OAD's with hundreds of thousands in the bank. Dirty, tainted, but untouchable. Stinks, along with the corrupt NCAA.

But K and Duke still couldn't win it all,you might say they tripped over a Bagley of cash on the way to the Final Four. Grayson Allen might not be such a bad guy after all,he did keep the ball away from Bagley when the chips were down.
