Really? there only one day. seemed just touristy, people walking downtown with drinks, river street pretty cool. i would like to go there again.
I used to work for SunTrust bank hq in ATL. Spend a lot of time in downtown atl. Lot of homeless begging for money but I never had any issues getting back to my hotel safe. Had a due tell me his name was shorty pimp as he proceeded to ask me for a dollar. I said dude, you must suck at being a pimp if you need a dollar for me. I told him that I he would have told me his name was "a pimp named slickback, yes say the whole name, I would have given him a dollar. He got mad but i told him to run along now before he get my pimp hand.
Avoid MARTA unless there is a big group of like minded fans.

Tattletales is Motley Crue’s favorite. I’ve been there and it’s a little rough inside but a good time.
It’s fine down around Peachtree. A lot of people out and about. But there some areas in downtown you want to avoid at all costs even during daylight, some fairly close to Philips Arena.

The hood is just a little south. Stay in the historic district. The hood is so close, some of the projects are on Bay Street, just a little further West. The historic district is pretty much surrounded by it. The historic district is pretty safe.
Homeless begging for money outside Turner Field was my experience too in ATL but I was just passing through. Guess that's anywhere though and of course some places worse than others. Been the same everywhere I've lived or visited, whether its Cincinnati & San Antonio for some of the larger cities. I had the same one approach in SA 3 times with the same story about just getting out of the penitentiary.
