Has Cal lost this group?

We are still running over people, walking and getting beat down the floor, it's not getting better, why is this?

Whatever Calipari has been trying...it ain’t getting through to them and ain’t working. That’s his job though and part of coaching. His approach with building this team and coaching this team has flat out failed.

To many of the same type of players on team. You have four possibly five if you count jones as a stretch 4.

Looks like it. They need a win bad. Each loss affects them more in the brain part of the game.

He never had them. Cal's system has an inherent volatility to it, he missed on these recruits so we are having a bad year. It's a chore to watch but anyone questioning whether he deserves a chance to fix it is out of their mind. One bad year in 9 is not the end of the world (I don't think it's fair to count 2013 given the Noel injury).

Oh 2013 counts. I’m not sure we make the tournament even with Noel that year.

That team was improving and Nerlens was the best player in the country. They aren't getting to the FF or anything but a sweet 16 wasn't out of the question

I don’t know. After he got hurt we went 4-3 in reg season and even beat Missouri which we thought would have sealed a bid. I don’t think he would have helped us beat UT since we lost by 30 and the other 2 losses were double digits too. Of course losing to Vandy by 800 points in the first round of SEC tourney didn’t help. I’m not sure we make the tournament even with him but who knows.

Having five stars don't mean wins, too much emphasis put on the next level around the program. That's when it's really bad, you have some of the best players ANY coach would want and you are going in to a down spiral in the middle of February, not good. One problem is your top 8 players are made up of 6 freshmen and two Sophomores and your Sophomores aren't playing any better than they did as freshmen in February.

I just think he was worth at least 1 if not 2 more wins including the SECT and we definitely get in with him healthy

Don't forget that we beat Florida minus Nerlens as well. Who do we beat? Florida should beat us by 35, and Auburn might beat us by 50. Nah, we'll make it close, but we'll lose.

He's being held hostage again.
It is his own fault. He plays kids who have not earned the minutes. Diallo has no business playing. I pray that an NBA takes him.

Cal built a system that is volatile due to turnover and did not close the deal on the best players. At some point you have to players that have the ability to score the ball.

This collection of players is the softest bunch of “elite” players. No heart and no hustle.

This isn't the team he planned. He just missed on 4 or 5 guys he wanted.

These players lack talent and heart, not to mention brains. Anthony Davis, Cousins, Wall, KAT etc were 5 star players as well. It means little.
I would fire the 1st GM to ever consider one of these in the 1st round whether they are 19 or 22. They just don’t have it. Knox?

I believe that is what I wrote. He didn’t close the deal on the best players. Now we have a collection of individuals who struggle to score. That is what it is but when the same kid gets his *** beat down the court routinely and he keeps playing them. The lack of simple hustle is astonishing. The lack of fighting through screens is astonishing. The lack of desire to stay in front of your man is unbelievable. The want to just is not there in several of them.

None of these guys are playing for the name on the jersey. Miss guys who really want to be here to win championships.

I think this team is a product of his success, come to UK and get drafted high. But these kids were a notch below many of UK's past players and combined with maybe a little more "entitlement" this has happened. Calipari always works magic, even with talent kids to get them ready by March, but the margin for error with this team was tiny...

We aren't appreciably different than what we were at any other point this season. The only real difference is that the difficulty of our schedule increased.

I still think it’s possible to turn things around, but we are running out of time.

I have noticed there are seasons when we seem to regress after Camp Cal. I recall reading an article a while back about the process of developing individual players for the next level, that sometimes a team will lose as they try to figure it all out.

Here’s hoping they figure it out. And soon.
