I think someway Coach Cal needs to light a fire under Knox's butt after all he was supposedly the "best" of our 5 star recruits. A team needs a leader a "go to" guy, and right now we don't seem to have that. I might be wrong, but sometimes Knox slacks off both on defense and looking for open shots. With his size he can get to the rim, and he also has a decent 3 point shot he just needs to want to be the man or leader on this team!! His play in the 2nd half of the West Virginia game really stirred up the team while everyone seemed to play better, but this was a nationally televised game on CBS hmmm? I think we go as far as Knox decides to take us, and his motivation and play could take us a long way the rest of the year...He's capable of doing that...

Yeah Ole General Patton, (Bless his 17 year old heart) when he led our troops... (Not analogizing but it came to mind.)

Not being smart toward you OP but very few, I mean very few 17 or 18 year old are leaders (At that age). Some are born to it but it is a little much to ask from one that old. They either have it or they don't. It doesn't mean they won't but it is a maturation process....if he is a leader, he isn't yet. Don't blame him.

Thanks for your analogy. but with 5 freshmen somebody has to assume that role why not the BEST of the five unless he's never had to do that in high school like some have...Guess kids are different than when I grew up..!! lol

Being the best doesn't make you a leader. It is a lot different I guess but I was a leader back in high school in some areas but was nothing of a star athlete and was definitely not the best. No need to be the best to lead.

That is a whole different mind-set. Many like you state, were following a perceived future star or clingers-on by a few or more which "made" your idol the leader. (He probably was not a leader but you and others may not have cared. They followed to be a part of or be liked too.) A HUGE difference but that is a lesson for another time and place. be Good

Thank you. It is Cal's pain for sure as I think he expected much more from this group. I am hurting a bunch myself. I love UK. Hate and can barely stand even typing on this site when the Cats are in the funk they are in. I love the time I spend on this site.

All I know is UK winning is Cal's success or at least the by-product of Cal's success. He is hurting too as these kids dreams and aspirations are being hurt badly and some of these kids can't see the forest for the trees. If they'd just listen to Cal they'd be fine. He has the correct plan. It has worked time and time again. If it is the NBA they want there is NO better avenue than Cal and UK for an assured successful career. Be Good

His defense has been awful most of the season (just like everyone else). He can hit some shots, but he settles for jump shots WAY to often. Last night someone on Twitter had a great point. They said he acts like the lane is made of lava...

Yes I agree, and it hurts me when they lose; especially if I see kids not giving 100% effort. I don't post often, but I'm "old school" and went to UK when Coach Rupp was there. Some of my posts may not be very popular, and when I played in high school being a Kentucky. "Mr Basketball" was almost a given scholarship at UK if they were good. We've had a few in my area of Kentucky, and I agree some weren't good enough...I do think we need more kids who play for the school, and not everyone with dreams of the NBA. Disappointment leads to poor play...Thanks for being civil on these posts not everyone are like you appreciate that...Take care!!

Twice last night Knox was just lost, once when he shot he just stood there watching with his hand still up and the rebound was long. His man saw Knox watching and streaked down the floor for a dunk because he was watching his shot. The second time someone just drive down the lane again and dunked while he watched, he made no effort to challenge the shot. Cal has been preaching defense and helping each other and some are just not getting it.

Giving up easy baskets is, that falls under the defense. There are a several reasons, being out of position, giving up offensive rebounds and hitting the basket are the big three.

He cannot take physical play & when his shot is not falling he lets that effect his defense & rebounding. I do think he is the key to this team reaching their potential what ever that may be. I don't think Cal knows how to get him comfortable in the offense, he is to slow to run off baseline screens, we tried that last night, & even though he usually has a three to four inch height advantage on the person guarding him he is not physical enough to post up.
