He's playing to his competition to be nice.....Your grandson would get done it just like the rest of this kids his age and 6th, 7th, and 8th graders...no offense.

I'm choosing not to let my kid win these games by himself...That's not basketball.

OK. I guess my question is, if he is actually that good, why come to a message board? Send him to some summer camps and see exactly how good he is. good luck.

Cause I respect the opinions on this board.......Looking for feedback....which I received some good feedback here. Every parent thinks their child is good or is positive....I wanted honest opinions from a groups of people from around the country.

So actually it's a compliment to the posters of this board.

Good enough to score 40 pts in the 4th grade after scoring 26 the previous night in the playoffs.

Once again, send him to some camps, where kids his age, or slightly older, who are very skilled for their age, compete. That would be an accurate barometer, not a bunch of guys on a internet board.

Well seeing how the camps are local I was looking for opinions from people in different areas of the country. You know, what the lnternet is used for.

He already does all that. Apparently you can't read. I didn't come here to argue because I enjoy reading the comments on the board.

So I will let your butt hurt continue and bow out.

Thank you for your useless feedback.

Keep up the progression. Your child has a very low cross over it seems, good stuff.

I love the enthusiasm and your encouragement to get others involved. It’ll be very beneficial to him.

I can read perfectly fine. I have tried to be nice to you. Congratulations on your son being skilled. But, what I have been trying to say, diplomatically, is that coming on an internet board, asking for opinions on your son, is simply a cry for attention. Who on this board can tell anything about a 5th grader, from an amateur video? How you can gather than I was butt hurt is beyond me. I guess because I didn't faun all over your boy's video. And don't give me that crap about respecting opinions on this board. This was simply an attempt for self-gratification. Now, you can thank me for my feedback, because, you kept on till I finally had to tell the truth, instead of trying not to hurt your feelings. I think your kid is good, for a 5th grader. There are thousands of them. Let's see how he is in 4 or 5 years. I suspect that if he continues to improve, you will be another Lavar Ball.

I will follow up on Ben's comments. While your attention to your kid is a good thing, your quest for people telling you he is good is a bad thing. I had a daughter that was recruited to play softball in the 80s (she wasn't that good, but they had just started playing fastpitch in Kentucky and she was better than others). I had a granddaughter that was good and was recruited. Too many crazy parents that worry about their kids position against others at an early age ruin them all. The best advice I can give you is if he likes basketball as a fifth grader, let him play as much as he wants. Don't make him do anything. You made a comment about how you make him shoot with one hand or the other. He is 11. Don't make him do anything he doesn't want to do. He will learn to hate it at his age. Once he starts liking girls and wanting to spent less time playing ball, let him enjoy girls. If he is special and loves the game, he will continue his progression. After his games, tell him you enjoy watching him play and don't criticize how he played. That is why they have coaches. Otherwise, you end up being one of the people that Cal talks about that distract from his players. Kids playing sports and enjoying them is awesome. Some enjoy it more than others. But everyone here can tell a story about the big kid in little league that was better than everyone but eventually got caught in size and talent and ended up being a drug addict that hated his dad because he was way too into promoting his 11 year old that didn't pan out.

Well, he’s right ya know. It just seems like you seek validation. Like you NEED validation?

Try camps etc . From the videos he looks slightly above average but honestly no way of knowing against mediocre competition .
To be honest , I’ve seen some kids his age and a bit younger play just as well (and sometimes better ... it’s crazy) up at Seneca park, Iroquois etc.

Thanks for being a mind reader.

You basically posted a bunch of BS to justify your butt hurt. Sorry Wildcat fans.

Fyi...I posted his video here last year. To get feedback.

My son never has to play another game and he we still be my son.

I have money he doesn't have to play.

Really Lavar? You are the dad that everyone talks about. I wasn't sure until you responded, but now I know. When he gets a D1 offer, I will buy you a steak, but I bet most coaches stay away from him because of you. I'm glad you have money. I paid for my kids to go to college. It's a good thing. I never begged people to say my kids were good at sports though.

He looks good, but like everyone else said, do not exasperate him; let the coaches criticize his play. If he does something unsportsmanlike, then it's open season. My brother's best friend was like that; he could dominate every sport there was, but his dad rode him. Eventually, he burned out, and wouldn't even try out for the HS team because he was so afraid of not making it. He was probably good enough to play small college. He was even better at baseball, as a pitcher, and never went anywhere.

I was a late bloomer; I didn't start playing until fifth or sixth grade. Because I was so far behind, I had to learn shooting; I became a very good shooter and scorer. I excelled at football and basketball, but was terrible at baseball (baseball seems to be the sport that early start is vital; I probably wasn't as horrible as I looked, but compared to everyone else, I was waaaayyyy behind). I made the JV HS team, scored well (rode the pine in varsity, due to size; I quit growing at 13); I played in rec leagues, and scored north of 40 several times. In one of those games, I played and shot very well; I felt great, except I missed a very long, contested three-point shot to win, and we lost by one. I already knew that I wasn't going to play in the NBA (every kid has that dream), but my dad just tore apart my game. I wanted to quit at that point. I finished the season, and stopped organized sports shortly thereafter. I never felt good enough; as a teenager, this is no good. I did play some intramurals in college, and played well there, but I just didn't have the competitive spirit anymore. While my dad and I have a good relationship now, this and other similar incidences hurt our relationship, and it took years to mend (although, I am very similar to him). I play with teenagers now at church, and I am very careful on how I answer when they ask me about their game. I can still shoot it pretty well, but the rest of my game is completely gone. Confidence is very big thing in those years.

tl; dr - Use this as quality time; please do not be the reason why he hates sports. Even if he comes up short of the NBA, or even college (like 99.5% do), always instill confidence in him, especially at this age.
