Was looking at some stats on Kenpom and noticed that Vanderbilt’s offensive rebounding percentage is 34%.

If that holds up as he gets more playing time, that’s one of the more ridiculous stats I’ve seen in a long time. Generally the best offensive rebounders in the nation each year grab only 20% of their team’s missed shots.

Even the best offensive rebounding teams each year grab only 40% of their misses as a team, and Vanderbilt alone has grabbed 34% in his limited playing time.

To have one individual player on your team that will rebound one out of every three missed shots is insane.

He’s still getting into game shape, I think Cal will run him out there a lot more when he can play for longer than a few minutes at a time. That number will certainly decrease a little as well but his effort alone will keep it at an elite level.

As the ball coach says, the young man has a nose for the ball. He is the kick start this team has needed imo.

We cant really win big if we don't have a elite rebounder. Vanderbilt needs to pan out as a rebounder. He is showing he can and will.

That number will likely go down as he plays more minutes as it's a small sample.

That being said, he's an absolute beast on the boards and will definitely help us not only on the offensive rebounding but more importantly on the defensive end where we rank 267th in defensive rebounding.

In the West Virginia game, he had 11 rebounds in 11 minutes of PT. For the mathematically challenged, that's a rebound per minute.

I've noticed multiple times that Vanderbilt has come up with a ball that seemed nearly impossible to get, on both ends. I remember one in particular in that West Va game where he was surrounded by 3 Mountaineer players and 2 of them were putting a body on him, yet he came out with the rebound. I'm telling you folks, he's a difference maker for this team and he's going to be hard to keep off the floor before long. Those little chip shots around the goal are going to start falling for him soon, then look out. He doesn't have to be a great scorer, just put back those misses.

Jarred Vanderbilt can score as he did in his last 2 years at Victory Prep averaging 28 points and 15 rebounds. He is still rusty from not playing the last 10 months and only averaging 12 minutes a game. He is also forcing and hurrying his shots right now and will be fine in time. In the Nike Hoops and Jordan Brand Classic he had 19 points in each game and double digit rebounding in only 20 minutes of playing time. He will be a double/double machine once his shots start falling and when he is playing 20-25 minutes a game.

100% agree Vanderbilt is going to get more minutes even with this awkward shooting.

- Wenyen is pretty safe as he's also a high energy kid, best defensive interior player right now and he still is a 3pt threat.
- It boils down to does Vanderbilt eat into Richards/SKJ sharing minutes at the 5 and Cal will be more apt to play Wenyen/PJ at 5 with Vanderbilt at the 4 spot. I think this is where Vanderbilt will eat up 15 minutes a game.
- The last spot is getting Vanderbilt some of Knox's minutes to rest him. I can see Vanderbilt getting 5-10 minutes a game here and we'll see the end of Diallo playing a few minutes at the SF spots.

yep
he just needs to slow his mind down and the shots will start falling
right now he is like the 10 year old kid that gets a fast break and hits the backboard so hard the ball bounces to mid court, a month later the kid lays it softly off the glass for a score

I noticed once in the WVa game as he was dribbling the ball down the court he stumbled, and it looked like his legs simply gave out, like they were jelly. So he's presumably pretty badly out of shape, which is of course what you'd expect from the layoff. If he can get to anything close to game shape by year end, he can really add a missing element to this team......

I know lots of people were acting like oh he won’t be the savior on this team blah blah blah

Well in the area of rebounding .......yes he is.

Agree that the number will most likely go down, but he will also probably become much better at putting the ball into the hoop after the offensive board. Pretty good trade-off.

Right now his motto should be if I can't dunk it Im either kicking it out to restart the offense or Im dribbling it out to restart the offense.

Remember that time Anthony Davis had 2 points at halftime in a game? He did all the little things n that game and UK won a championship. You don't have to score a ton of points to be effective.

16 rebounds 5 assists 3 steals and 6 blocks. He only scored 6 points.
