Tayshaun....used to play for UK...
True, but I don't remember him playing center for us, and certainly not on a consistent basis. The topic was whether someone who weighed 215 lbs could play center in the SEC.

Tayshaun was incredibly skinny for his height and position, and a phenomenal player nonetheless. But I didn't list him because he didn't play center.

In the coming weeks UK will extend an offer to 5* Burger Boy EJ Montgomery from Marietta, Georgia. Montgomery currently stands at 6'11" and 215 pounds, although recruiting websites list him having smaller measurements in both areas. Montgomery is listed as a PF, but I've been told he's being pitched the possibility of splitting time at the 5 with Richards, assuming Richards returns. Montgomery doesn't see himself as a one and done type player and relishes the idea of being able to get a decent amount of PT as a freshman w/o having to be "the man." For his size Montgomery has good handles, decent court vision/passing capabilities for a player his size, and great off ball movement which can be attributed to a high basketball IQ. With that said, although coming in late the UK staff feels good about their chances and have actually been in contact with Montgomery longer than most think. Go Big Blue!!!
Where did you get the info?

If he backs up Richards, what about SKJ? Are they expecting him to transfer, if they plan on playing Montgomery at the 5?

Would be interesting if he doesn't want to be OAD.

Imagine signing him and Wiseman (if he reclasses). We could have both for two years. That would be pretty sweet.

Where is Gabriel going?
Where he can get paid to play. Might be G league , might be Europe . I agree he ain't ready for the NBA but some men don't have much choice is their families are really struggling . If he comes back it means the situation with his family has been overblown.

That's great, I hope we get him. However, he plays smaller than 6'11 and he plays more like a 3 or a 4, but he's not a great shooter. He's left-handed, skinny, reminds me of Tayshaun Prince without the range. Not knocking him, but he's not a 5. I hope he comes to KY.
So he can’t shoot, skinny and he plays small. I’m trying to figure out why he is 5 star recruit then.

You are wrong with your first statement..You are probably basing it on what AD is doing in the NBA. But Dan Issel was the best player ever to put on a UK uniform with Bill Spivey lurking in the shadows had his career not been cut short.

I saw Dave Debuchere guard Dan Issel in the NBA. I yelled out to DD before the game and asked if he could handle Issel. He smiled at me and Issel literally couldn't get a shot off without getting stuffed. Issel's face was all red and he was finally pulled from the game. I know Issel was great and one of UK's all time greats, but to compare him with AD is just ridiculous. AD was First Team AA as a freshman, NPOY, and led us to a NC as a freshmen, Issel never did anything even approaching that. I don't think you can really compare the two players. I give Issel his due, but come on!

The old timers need to ask themselves, if Davis and Issel went head to head, who would win? My money is on Davis.

I think next year SKJ would play ahead of him for sure, and that Wynyard very well may also.
I'm all for adding depth. But we very well could have a frontcourt of Richrards, Gabriel, Vanderbilt, Washington, Wynyard, & SKJ ((I put them in order of least likely to return to most likely).
Also I think Johnson may play the 3 for us next year.

Johnson is a 3 and that is all he will play for us next year as the 1 and 2 are loaded while unless JV comes back Johnson will be the only SF on the team . I think they will have Herro play some 3 as well if JV isn't here .

Issel was an amazing player!!

He also was a GREAT shooter, so he could get his against anybody!!

Issel played against all the great players of that time and while Dave Debuchere may have gotten the best of Big Dan on THAT day, he couldn't consistently shut him down.

NOBODY from that era did consistently!!

PERIOD!!

Thanks. Just curious but how do you know?
My profession allows me to know a lot of people who are at UK. Primarily students and staff, but some of them know people close to the basketball program and they share info with me. I don't claim to have insider info, as everything I hear is simply hearsay. Good thing is that more than often the info I get plays out and multiple sites/reporters are reporting the same thing now so it looks like this info was solid.

To answer a few other questions in this thread, Cal and Co want SKJ to move to the 4 creating room at the 5 with Richards. I said "in the coming weeks" cuz I was told it would be made known SOON about UK and EJ. Without an actual date I wasn't going to act like I had spoke to Cal so "in the coming weeks" covered what I was told. Why they hadn't done so beforehand is a mystery to me as well, but typically recruiting is kept private in order to not scare off other recruits (i.e. Zion) or hide your interest from opposing teams who would go after the same recruit (i.e. dUKe). Why take me for my word? Don't! In fact I wouldn't take anyone on here/KSR/ any site for their word. Nobody knows what's going to play out in the mind of a teenager, including Cal, which in UK's case was never so evident than within the recruiting process of TJ. I used to write for a site like KSR, at that time had what I'd call insider info, and was 100% certain that Anthony Bennett was coming to UK. We all know how that turned out!

Thanks for questioning my post without being a rude imbecile. I read posts on this site daily, but as you can see by my post count I rarely post cuz people take things to seriously on forums and hide behind the anonymity of their device. Always take what I say with a grain of salt and hope that the salt becomes that of the Big Blue earth. Also, don't be so afraid of dUKe on this one. Sometimes in life the script gets flipped and everything works out the way it's supposed to be. Go Big Blue!!!

KSR is reportng that there is mutual interest between Anfernee Simons and UK. Could be a HUGE get.

I hope that’s true. Ben said “don’t be suprised” but didn’t seem like it was a sure thing — then KSR ran with it. Even if SGA goes — wed be loaded at the 1 & 2 spots so not sure where he’d fit in..

I knew that Randle Jackson was transferring to UK from Fla. St. and even saw his Blue Denim jersey. You know how that turned out. So I get what you're saying.

if you turn the clock back 30 years the players from today could not get the ball down court back then you to handle the ball with out palming the ball every 3 feet or running 20feet down court with out bouncing the ball once players may not have been as athletic but far more skilled

What do you mean “don’t be so afraid of duke on this one”? Are you insinuating that we’re in better position with him than duke?

If Simons comes to UK I would be surprised to see Quade hang around especially if the transfer rule goes immediately into effect. I think Simons and Quickly would be great together plus Herro Baker and Johnson all G/SF. Green may be the worse defender of them all.

Again, simply my opinion, but yes I think Cal might be pulling a "Capel" on Rat Face with EJ. Remember, Cal has been in contact with EJ for over a month and I heard Cal and Co feel really good about their recruitment of him. With that said EJ's dad hardly mentioned UK in his interview. If you follow recruiting you know that has smoke screen written all over it.

Cal's competitive and has to be tired of dUKe's recruiting strategy. I truly believe that while Cal isn't the greatest X's and O's coach (just my opinion and not going to argue over this), he is in fact THE BEST at getting the most out of players and helping them become servant leaders/real men, he is in fact great at building them up in practice, and is in fact THE BEST recruiter in college basketball. With that said, "THE BEST" doesn't just roll over when they're challenged, but instead they fight like a SOB to regain their title. In the end, I think Cal fills our remaining two scholly's with two of the following players; EJ, Anfernee, James, or Romeo. At this point that's no big surprise, except Romeo, who I think is the Alpha Dog in this class that's still on the table and wide open in his recruitment. Go Big Blue!!!
