I'm not a big "source" guy, everybody says they have them and yada yada yada. But it is what it is.

I'm hearing that Kentucky is almost certainly going to extend an offer to Tavin Lovan at the end of the season, so long as the scholarship situation shakes out the way they think it will.

Heard the staff decided they need to get back to taking a top KY guy every year or every other year, if they have the open scholarships (guys like Hawkins).

Hope it happens! Kid is pretty good, and a KY product.

If the spot is available I'd like to see KY Mr Basketball have an offer every year. Or at minimum a preferred walkon spot with a chance to earn one if it opens up.

The year that we had those 2 random kids that Cal knew their families from PA and NJ was dumb. If you're going to throw away roster spots you might as well give it to the KY kid who is a Georgetown-WKU level talent but might pass on that scholarship for a chance to be part of this program.

That one kid was something like 5'11-145lbs and averaged 3 points a game in HS. There were boat loads of better athletes and players playing pickup in the Johnson Center that had dreamed of playing for KY their entire life

I’d like to see all of David Johnson, Kyky Tandy and DeVion Harmon in blue. I don’t think he should take a Kentucky kid just to have a Kentucky kid, but the ones that are good enough to play here I’d definitely like to see offered. Idk enough about Lovan’s game but if the staff likes him, I do too.

Is De'Vion Harmon a Kentucky kid?

I see him as a 4-star kid listed from Texas and he's committed to Oklahoma.

WVU has a dude this year, Bolden from Holmes High that could be in the rotation here.
Really liked Bolden in high school. I thought when he was a sophomore he would certainly get an offer from U.K. But, he never grew and just didn't have the level play Kentucky requires for someone his size. That said, he would absolutely be getting minutes this year and would be real nice to have as a junior and senior. He is the type of player you need a couple of on every team that Kentucky has not added now since Hawkins and Willis.

Probably 6'3, but he's got huge shoulders.

I don't think he's as good as Hawkins, but he does have the physical profile to belong on the floor with elite players. Think Quentin Goodin from Taylor County, but not that level of player.

If he's not even at the level of Hawkins, then he has no business @ UK.

Watched him play in High School a couple of times. Big, strong and athletic guard. I think he could contribute by his junior or senior year. Him going the prep school route was a good decision, giving him another year to mature and play quality competition.

Maybe. And I'd be okay if the staff didn't offer him.

But there are moments where he could be a useful piece (Brad played in the first half out of necessity) with the ability to grow and learn and contribute as an upperclassman like Hawkins did.

This kid is bigger and stronger. Not quite the athlete but no one is. Skills can be developed and guys can improve, especially if they have the physical gifts.

It isn't like other Kentucky kids who could just never belong on the court no matter how hard they worked. He has the stuff you can't teach.

If he's our 12th or 13th scholarship, I'm on board with that. Think of him as Wynyard at the guard spot.

I like him too early.

I don't think neither were a scolly player. If your scollies are full, who cares how many walk ons you have.

That's why I said for the walk ons. And 15 is the limit. The extra throw away spots should be KY guys if they aren't going to be contributors anyways

I actually want our Kentucky kids to be in a position to play not professional bench sitters like those two kids. Letting them watch a real practice probably makes their day.

I would love to get a kid like this if we have room.

Would be nice to have Hollingsworth as thin as we are at guard. He is scoring double digits at WKU, he could definitely play for us and we need another guard right now with Green out.

Glad he is at WKU, at least.

For the kids who have the skill to play elsewhere. But if a walkon isn't a legit practice player then why not take someone for lex cath or pikeville that averaged 15 or so a game.

And at least extend the option to walkon to the Sheldon macks of the world

I don't think anybody with an ounce of talent is coming here to sit on the bench and watch the game for four years. We have seen in the past two years, the top Kentucky players do not want to sit behind talented basketball players every year and I don't blame them. I think you overestimate players with talent, they won't come to sit.

How many Kentucky boys have been offered the opportunity in the Cal era?

Hawkins and Willis were offered and accepted.

I seriously can't remember any others since Cal got here that he offered and turned him down.

I think the recent was the Hollingsworth kid at WKY was offered a spot, not sure if it was scolly or walk on but he said no.

Polson, Elisha Justice and Landon Slone are examples of what I'm talking about. All talented kids but not major D1 talent. Could have easily been preferred walk ons and would have taken an opportunity to sit and be part of the program over playing at a smaller school

75% of those kids played and even started at one time or another like Hawkins and Willis, not all are as talented and you were talking about walk ons, those kids cannot be put in that category.

I didn't think he was offered a scholarship.

I can't blame a kid for choosing a scholarship offer over a walk-on offer.

That's more about finances than loyalty or playing time.

I am a diehard Wildcat fan and I would not be sending my son to UK as a walk-on if he got a scholarship offer elsewhere. Tuition is ridiculous these days.

Check out a post above ours, he said Cal told him to wait and when he didn't they got Baker. Now that's his story not mine.
