trying to play too many freshmen all the time creates so many shortcomings

not time in one season to get all freshmen meshed together and work like a machine

a school like the current Villanova squad would beat UK 9 out of 10 times and probably at least 7 of those would be 10+ point wins

Won't be a problem next season, most likely.

Green, SGA, Washington, Killeya-Jones, and Wynyard should return. Gabriel and Vanderbilt are possibilities to return as well (assuming Vanderbilt doesn't return 100% healthy), though I think Gabriel bolts regardless of draft position.

Cal said he is signing 4-5 in this class. Has three already, he will sign 1 or 2 more.

Expect to lose 4 or 5, since we will sign 4 or 5. Knox and Diallo are givens. Richards is very likely. Gabriel probably leaves. I think Vanderbilt plays enough at the end of the season that he gets drafted.

We will probably see 2 returnees starting minimum next year, plus 2-3 more as key players off the bench.

I see Johnson and Quickley as potential starters, plus Williamson (if he comes here).

Herro will be a reserve, most likely.

Best case scenario recruiting wise is we sign Williamson and Wiseman reclassifies.

Starters

G Green or Gilgeous-Alexander
G Quickley
F Williamson
F Washington
F Wiseman

Bench

G Gilgeous-Alexander or Green
G Baker
G Herro
G Johnson
F Killeya-Jones
F Wynyard

Assuming Cal understands he needs a few multi year guys. That’s why we recruited Jaxson Hayes, who still picked Texas.

Gabriel? Where in the hell is he going?

Exactly. This is what irks me and others that hate all this turnover every year. The true OAD guys is one thing, if they are drafted, fine. It is the guys leaving and not getting high drafts. It’s almost like Cal deems himself a failure if he recruits a guy and stays more than 2 years.

Poster above states that this year will be different and then names off 4/5 guys that will leave. That is not change, that is same old ****.

Yeah, you’re right. We’ve had very little success since Cal has been here, right? Lol

I'd bet as much money as you want that on a Neutral Court Villanova doesn't beat us 9/10 and definitely doesn't win 7/10 by 10 or more. That's just delusional. Any college team beating a top 100 team 9/10 times is very hard. This is why every year we see 2-5 seeds losing opening round games to lessor teams.

Nothing to see here just the beating of a dead horse combined with ludicrous statements. Move along!

I missed that championship year, evidently.

Did I say we won the title?

The OP claimed that five freshmen will never work together as a machine, whatever that means. My point is that if getting to a title game isn’t working as a machine, then I don’t know what is.

It wouldn't matter that we are always playing freshman if they came out of high school knowing how to play defense. It's like Charles Barkley used to say.... any knucklehead can score.

Ahh, fresh take slick. 4 final fours and a championship in 8 years, but let's go back to the 10 loss Tubby years.
Yeah not a very original thread but you bring up a good point. Cal has been to four final fours here and three of them had a mix of freshman and upperclassmen, kind of like the o p was saying. Or we can just stick with all freshmen and hope that one of them can hit multiple deep 3's at the end of tournament games.

Guess I'll never understand how, with some of you, having talented experience on the team equates to going back to The Tubby years ?

One thing that never changes: most UK fans aren't happy unless we win the title every year, so most UK fans will never be happy. Unrealistic expectations. Perpetually miserable.

Cal is already statistically the best coach we have had since Rupp. Yet half the board acts like he is a failure.

Got to love our fickle fans.

We've had some incredible teams so only one title bothers fans as well as the years when we're not actual title contenders-2013, 2016, 2018.

A contributing factor in fan misery is the fact that UConn won two titles at our expense, UNC won one, Louisville won and Duke won a title since our last one.

I think we need some graduate transfers, too.

And some pro baseball players.

Because it just does, you dinosaur dopes want Cal to risk his high winning percentage and turn away some 5 star talent for 4 year players. NOBODY is doing that, absolutely nobody. You get the best you can get, or you don't deserve a coaching job.

Nothing new there. We have always had to deal with disappointment.

Same as in 1966.

Same as in 1975.

Same as in 1984 and 1986.

Same as in 1992, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2003, 2004, and 2005.

If we have a great team and don't win a title, it's frustrating.

We need to be grateful that we have great teams every few years, and we have a chance to win it all.

Let's be happy we have had that many chances. Few programs have that many chances and that is why we are second all-time in titles won.

Cal is going to keep getting us those opportunity and maybe, just maybe he gets us another title.

If not, be glad we are in the mix.

I'm just happy to be competing on the court and in recruiting. After Tubby and Billy, I hope this lasts forever.

I love how you throw in 2018 as a non title contender???? The only true non title contending team on that list is 2013. At this point in the season everyone knew they weren't going to win a title.

2016 and this years team are certainly similar as they both have 2 losses going into SEC play. 2016 lost to UCLA and Ohio State, this years team Kansas and UCLA, but the biggest difference I see is ceiling. 2016 had a much lower ceiling than this years team and they even were a 4 seed and capable of making a run. Don't sleep on this years team, the top teams are down and not as dominant as in years past which leaves the door wide open for a title run by any number of contenders. I'd certainly include our team in the contenders list as I'm sure most would.

Not to mention you conveniently Leave off 2011 and 2014 when neither of those teams were "supposed" to make a title run but did and that's by far the best comparison to the type of team we have this year. I think our ceiling for this years team is higher than either of those years. Just my two cents, its a great day to be a Cat fan!

2011 was hot and 2014, we had better talent.

No, I don't think it's a reach to say this team isn't a title contender. It's called living in reality.

So less than 1/3 into the season you are completely writing off all hope of a title?

So this years team is un capable of being "hot" as you call it? 2014 had more talent? I think you will find out you are wrong there, 2014 two guys got drafted Randle 7th and Young 17th. The next year Cauley-Stein 6th , then Harrison 44 and Johnson 48. This years team has more draft picks easily and I even say more 1st round picks, time will tell.

He says we aren't title contenders yet Vegas had us 2nd best chance preseason and we have never dropped below 6th best chance at any point. OP is clueless if he thinks this years team couldn't win the title. Completely capable and in no way comparable to 2013.

Gabriel will make his money in basketball or in Hollywood making "movies" as for non OAD players enjoy the ride op this yr and next will have plenty of guys here atleast 2 years. I guarantee you cal wants to one another worse than ever with his son here. I predict one in the next two years
