This trio simply cannot play together

The single biggest problem is nobody expect quade wants to pass the ball. A double team or semi open results in a T.O. because nobody passes the ball. As much as I hate the man Bob Knight would choke every player here because of so much dribbling.

Oh and I swear to god Hami can take a seat if he wants to shoot a 20 footer instead of driving an open lane ever again.

Gabriel had 12 points,6 rebounds, 2 blocks...just what the hell did you expect from him last night?
Gabriel regularly gets lost on defense and makes me cringe every time he sticks with the cutter instead of switching to the screener and leaves a wide damn open 3. His basketball IQ is limited. He's just not going to live up to his billing. He may end up a solid player as a senior, but right now he is a liability on the court.

Alexander causes the offense to stagnate and is way too loose with the ball (dribbling and passing).

Wenyen is as lost as he was last year.

PJ can't decide if he even wants to be out there.

As of today, these 3 together in the game at the same time will result in an opponent making a run every time.

Hopefully we see vast improvement.
at least Richards looked better, in the 1st half

Sometimes even high school superstars never had to learn the basics of basketball, bounce pass, pivot, dribbling with you're off hand or going left if you are right handed, or blocking out among other things. Not learning those things at an early age will show when you have to play in a structured system, sometimes the basketball IQ isn't there. I think things can be fixed in time but like some have said, it's worrisome out there right now when certain ones are on the floor together
I agree with this...it seems like the fundamentals and basic basketball IQ that gets pushed aside with this great athletes.
This is the one of the big reasons the NBA wants one and done gone. Expand the D league to develop those skills on a fulltime basis, college just can't do that on part-time basis, in one year.

My mom has a master's degree in English and was a grammar Nazi. She was harder on me about my spelling and grammar than my teachers. And I ended up editing newspapers and magazines for a decade.

Those peeves are just me being a grumpy old bastard.

I agree the your/you're is the most forgivable of the three I listed.

Same here. Swap it for grandmother. I turned in cursive writing until I was out of college. Old 50's English woman.

I can tell spellcheck has eroded some of my spelling ability over the last 10 years. Words I've always known how to spell and freeze up.

Because of computers I'm not even sure correct spelling is necessary anymore. Just get close and it'll fix itself.

Has nothing to do with his personal numbers.

The offense is very clunky with these 3 on the floor together and turnovers seem to come in bunches.

Of in the place of have drives me crazy. As soon as I read that, I just skip the rest of it because the poster is obviously an idiot.
Some people do not have the same writing skills as you. I have an 136 iq and I may be the worst writer on this board. I am no idiot because I suck at punctuation.

I was just expecting and wanting to see the PJ we saw in Egypt with the USA U19 team this summer. He was a man-child, except at the free throw line. I’ve yet to see even a glimpse of that guy so far. Every player besides Knox, Green, and SKJ have played below expectations. There just isn’t a quick fix to our issues. We will get better but the ceiling for this team has been lowered. Right now we are a sweet 16 team at best.
Sounds like PJ might have Alex Poythress syndrome.

This season needs to be looked at incrementally. For example, the first 10 games, we play some low level competition, save for Kansas. I thought we played a great, yet sloppy game with them. Roles will be defined by the 10th game, the second 10 will have everyone hopefully acclimating themselves to their strong suit, be it scoring, passing, rebounds, coming off the bench, playing great defense etc. If in these 10 games, we see this kind of change, then the last 10 or 12 games, we just get better and better. Point guard with Green is coming together nicely. By tournament time, we could be either of two things, an 8 seed and home after the first weekend, because some of the guys did not buy into the team concept or 1 or 2 seed in the toughest region which by now we have come to expect. One thing I see that I really like early on is the balance. Teams really don't know who to stop. We have 7 or 8 guys that could lead us in scoring on a given night. For me, there it is, now I am just going to stay tuned and hopefully see my wishes come true and beat Duke for our 9th

Poor Wenyen, he walks just about every time he drives the ball. Thankfully they only call it 3/4 the time. And he's soft as Charmin. He needs some of Perry Stevenson's pop tarts.

These first games aren’t against our usual cupcakes either. Other than Utah Valley, made it to the tournament last year. Utah Valley was a very experienced team with some big transfers, plus you add in how many games they’ve played over a short period will only make them battle tested.

I have no doubt that most of our issues are fixable.

The only question I have is do we have enough runway to fix what we need to before we run out of season?

All very astute observations after 5 games. None of which, however, are relevant to the remainder of the season. 5 games - let that sink in.

Thank you for correctly spelling the word "loose". It's such a relief to see someone execute that correctly.
Now we need to get the board to understand that there is only one "L" in the name Ulis.
But yeah, PJ washington is REALLY struggling, he seems to turn the ball over every time he touches it.
I still think Cal will have these guys rocking by tournament time. They simply let off the gas tonight.
Much like like Townes that's always my favorite

PJ has really been a disappointment. Not active at all imo. Just seems to be coasting a little.
Sometimes when you are unsure about what you are supposed to do or thinking too much, you can appear lazy or lethargic. I'm thinking that's what's going on .

"Drives me crazy" well it didn't have far to drive you did it?........just kidding when I was a youngster stripping tobacco we would have all these old ladies and one or two old men stripping tobacco and the women would say that just drives me crazy and one ole fellow would always say "it didn't have far to drive you did it. I just had to throw that in.

I'm impressed that our fans have gleaned so much after just 5 games. I must not be very basketball savvy. ;)

That's right, these are observations after 5 games, not predictions as to how the team will play in March.

Let that sink in.
So true. I keep thinking of the 10'-11' team. Not saying the season will go exactly like that, but that team really struggled, especially in SEC play. Got it together in the SECT and got on a roll. We shall see.

What is up with all the smartass remarks thus far?

This is a message board where people make observations regarding the team and it's current play.

Perhaps we need to create a board simply for those who wish to make observations of other posters?

You are like the 5th person in this thread making a snarky comment about others making an observation

Not sure why you feel compelled to do so? No one is trashing our kids.

I'm sorry I touched a nerve with you. FWIW, I generally like your posts.

Honestly , it’s really not that important. In the grand scheme of things ya know ?

I disagree.

If you can't use proper English, why am I supposed to take you (general sense, not you, Frank Underwood) seriously or offer your argument a single shred of credibility?

I mean, the stuff I mentioned is not and never was difficult to grasp, so constantly messing it up tells me that person is a moron not to be taken seriously.
