Ammo for negative recruiting...

Why? The guy may be our best rim protector. Richards is getting pushed around and Gabriel too. He’s the most aggressive player besides Knox to get the 50/50 ball. Could actually be a testament to good recruiting and development as opposed to a Bolden who’s just fading with each class.

Exactly. Yet, he won't start. Why?

Weird how the guy who says we need 4 year players to win championships is also the guy who says it’s a negative when a guy stays longer than one season. He couldn’t possibly be a troll could he????????????????

You're completely missing the point, yet perfectly illustrating my point.

SKJ is much improved. I'd say he's our best big. But when push comes to shove, who will get the nod for minutes between he and NR? Who will get to start?

So here is SKJ, payed his dues, worked hard to improve, is "currently" the better overall player, yet NR will play over him. Why?

SKJ has improved loads over last season, isn't that a positive that Cal develops them. Bolden, BeHannon, etc are guys you could use for negative recruiting

Really? He just played arguably his best game against Kansas. He was never considered an elite player out of high school. He's doing fine & will continue to improve. It's the first time in his life he's played hard! Credit Cal!

And again, he doesn't start. Hmmm

So if he's improved so much, and Cal has done an excellent job of developing him, why doesn't he start?

Its not like our coach has a reputation for developing centers. He couldn’t possibly see the potential for Richards to be a ton better than he is right now. No way. He just likes to piss off miserable fans like you. I’m sure that’s all it is.

You are right. Doesn't he have rep for developing point guards. If 1 coach in America uses SKJ as "ammo" then they should be fired on the spot because that would be the dumbest way to recruit ever

Richards 50 minutes played......SKJ 56

No real difference

If no real difference, why not just start SKJ?

Hasn't he "earned" it? After all he's a sophomore. He's payed his dues. He's been through more practices, more weights, more offseason workouts, watched more film, etc etc. Why not start him?

He was hampering AD also. Did you know he took the 5th most shots on the team ? I mean he was obviously trying to get Teague to the NBA with his brother at the expense of AD losing shots. Cal better figure **** out, quick. I mean SKJ is a 5 star, Nick Richards is a 5 star, i do not see the play the elite kid over the average Joe angle ???

4 GAMES...
Didn't you say similar about Willis last year after he would have a good game?

Both are 5 stars, both have a ton of upside, why not start the sophomore? Hasn't he earned it?

i know that you aren’t capable of anything but negative thoughts but try and use your brain for good just once. Maybe Cal knows that Richards has a lot of potential and benching him, even if he remains at the same amount of minutes will hurt his confidence and development. He sees how hard skj has worked and how mentally tough he’s become and knows that he will be happy just getting the minutes and doesn’t need the glory of starting.

Why not start SKJ over someone else less "fragile"?

What if SKJ also needs the glory of starting? Does he not also have lots of potential? What if SKJ is having his confidence hurt by not starting? Why not try to accommodate SKJ too? Why is Richards more important?

How do you know? You talk to him?

I mean what an incredible response you had earlier as to why SKJ should NOT start over NR. "It might hurt NR's confidence". Wow, well what about SKJ?

The entire first part of this thread is posters discussing how good SKJ is, rim protector, rebounder, how he's improved so much. Yet no one can give me a legitimate reason as to why he doesn't start? Except because it might hurt one of the freshmen's feelings? Wow

You're doing a so so job of trying to change your narrative so that you fit in. You're failing in your Clinton strategy but then so did they. But keep it up. It's fun to watch you wiggle.

In a normal situation at another college or even at UK pre-OAD, SKJ would come in and as a freshman, be a non-factor with only token minutes. As a sophomore he would be a solid bench/role player. As a junior he would become a starter and as a senior a leader and top player on the team.
So far he is progressing as would be expected. The problem for him is the same thing that DMiller, DHawkins, and DWillis experienced.
It is difficult at UK for a player to progress from solid bench/role player to starter and star/leader because of the constant influx of elite talent.
Because of the newness of the team every year, Cal must keep the offensive and defensive schemes simple which tends to negate the advantages of experience. In order to get his most talented players up to speed quickly and to keep them on the court, he will allow them a longer leash on mistakes. This is why Matthews left and why UK is unattractive to players of his caliber.

I like the progress of SKJ. Reminds me of the path Cedric Jenkins took at UK when he was obviously not ready for significant PT during his first season but gradually developed into a good player. I see a lot of this in SKJ.

He played 25 minutes last night. I mean if you're gonna troll, try a little harder.
Yeah - but, no? I mean, yes, you'd think a troll would put at least a little effort into it. But right now this measly thread has 37 replies, soon to be a 2 pager (at least). People just can't help themselves, have to respond. He really doesn't need to try harder when the fishing is that easy......
