I'm always amazed at the least bit of criticism of one of our coaches and people freak out. I'm confident Cal wants to get these guys better also. smh If Cal is finished learning his craft then he's in trouble. I guarantee he's not. Cal's a lifelong learner.

Criticism is fine. I just find it interesting particularly with regard to UCLA you cut it off to the previous 3 games. In the previous 4, Cal is 2-2 including a 30 point beatdown and a win against UCLA in the sweet 16 last year. With regard Kansas, Self has had the upper hand the past few years. But if I remember correctly, Cal had won the previous 3 games before that including a 30 point beatdown.

We beat UCLA in the Sweet 16 when it mattered. They beat us 2 times before that in meaningless December games. Funny how you also just used 2 of 3 when we also absolutely destroyed them in 2014 by 40. Idiot.
Beating Steve Alford 2 out of 4 times is nothing to brag about.

I can't figure out whats wrong with what he's saying. Kentucky is getting beat right now, UNC is catching up, Duke is catching up, Kansas is beating our arses, some other rivals like UCLA have won a few in a row?

I get that down swings happen, but why any UK fan would be totally cool with this is beyond me. Sound like our football only fans.

Not sure many are "totally" cool with this but...

THIS. Since the beginning of 2016, we are 0-3 vs. Kansas..1-2 vs. UCLA (Thank God we beat them in last year's Sweet 16), 0-1 vs. IU, 1-1 vs. UNCheat, (Higgins screwed us pretty good but still..L is a L), 1-1 vs. Loserville, and 1-0 vs. Duke...that's 4-8 vs. other blue bloods and rivals in just the last 2+ seasons. I don't care what anyone says, Coach Cal lost something when we lost in the Final 4 to Wisconsin. He's not been the same since. That loss was major. A lot more impacting than people here want to admit.

It impacted me that's for sure...

This. You and I seem to see things similarly on both Stoops and Cal. We don't want them fired by any means...but we have some valid, fact-based criticisms which somehow make us crazy in the eyes of the worshippers.

Could we really find a replacement for either one who we'd be 100% sure would do better? Absolutely not. But neither one is perfect.

Sure, Cal has a young team. But isn't Coach K beating Cal at his own game, at this point? Especially if (God forbid) he gets another title this year?

We would all feel so differently if Cal hadn't choked away the best season of all time in 2015. But he did. So here we are. He's great, but he isn't perfect, and he's lagging behind other blue-bloods.

Get a room...

Nothing is 100%, that is a throwaway comment. Who gives you just a more likely than not chance of an upgrade and what are you smoking that anybody wants a situation where the results Calapari are defined as disappointing.

I find all of this handwriting to be absurd and a distorted vision of the realities of the sport.

If we got the Duke/UNCheats preferential treatment we'd win the championship like six out of ten times but we don't but we eat very well regardless of some delusional entittled folks wanting to pretend we don't. Three Final Fours, six Elite Eights, and a Champion is one of our better periods in history.

Pics or it didn't happen.

We played within 4 points of a veteran-led Kansas team in the 3rd game of the year for a team that starts 5 freshmen. We definitely don't look like a 2013 or 2016 squad with huge, glaring weaknesses that we can't address as the year goes on. We have talent, we just have a lot of guys who need to improve on aspects of their game and a team that needs to learn to play together. In 2014, a similarly young but deep and talented year, we lost NINE regular season games and the SEC championship and were national runners up. I was saying before the season started that the people "predicting" a 4 or 5 loss season were setting themselves up for disappointment and melt downs. Enjoy the ride, watch the team grow, and expect to be a contender in March.

simply because we were talking 3 in a row from ku. nothing more. Cal's record against rivals overall is fantastic compared to other coaches.

Deli owl..this is a fight/argument/debate you or I can't win. Nobody can. They are a very much always "right" crowd when it comes to Coach Cal. I like Coach Cal, he's definitely the man for the job..this team will get better..but there are even more Coach Cal nut huggers than Stoops nut huggers. No matter what, our Coaches are considered untouchable by most. If they coached for anyone else though, they'd be ripped apart by the same ones that are riding their jocks right now.

I think a lot of this comes down to the luck/chance of tournament finishes. If you swap the 2014 and 2017 seasons - we lose to Michigan in the 2014 elite 8 but beat UNC and end up national runner up last year - we're having very different conversations right now.

Lots of good conversation . I'll say this . In my ( feeble) eyes we stand zero chance to win a title this year . Zero. In looking forward ( yes I see the humor in looking forward in game 3 of thee season ) how many of 5 star studs come back ? Knox looks legit , the rest look like average Joe's that could be playing about anywhere . But we all know too well if you come back for round 2 at UK you are considered something of a failure .. Thinking back to last year the discussion of Diallo and Gabriel going pro ... Cmon ! nice players but years away IF ever ready for the league . We return nearly everyone and add shooting we have a legit shot

How many coaches have done what Cal has done in the years he has been here? Not Joe B Hall, not Eddie Sutton, not Billy G, not Tubby, not Pitino. Pitino was at Louisville 16 years with 0 titles. So you think other programs like Indiana would rip Cal apart for 4 final fours and 1 title in 8 years. You evidently don't know basketball.

I know basketball, bud. You EVIDENTLY didn't read what I said correctly though. I said/meant that most of the same UK fans here that fight tooth and nail to defend Coach Cal would trash him if he coached for any other team. Just like they did when he was at Memphis and UMass. FACT. Yes, Coach Cal is a great coach and has accomplished a ton here..but he is not perfect or above criticism. Some people here act as if he is simply because he is UK's coach.

This right here has become the oldest, most tired argument on this board, yet it's the go-to anytime someone is critical of Cal's methods. Newsflash; no one is saying he hasn't had success.

I don't praise coach Cal for being coach Cal. I praise him for the fantastic job he had done at Kentucky.

So what do you want him to do different? What would satisfy someone like you? Does he need to win a title every year? Dean Smith won two titles in 36 years at UNC and he is a hero to UNC fans.

I wasn't meaning to direct what I said toward you in particular. I was referring to some others on this board. I've been around on here for years..well before the Coach Cal era..a lot longer than my profile page indicates.

Play more “EKU’s” early on? Are you freaking serious? What would that accomplish other than getting us a W? We got more from this game than we would LOSING TO SETON HALL, Or some other garbage team. This happens. We are young. Cal done a good job. The kids done a good job. We will improve more than KU will. And once again we will go further than they do!

Fixed for you.
