As most are aware, RJ Barrett is set to make an announcement on his college decision Friday. The following day Keldon Johnson is scheduled to make his decision.
Reading the tea leaves, do you think this was orchestrated by Cal to help alleviate losing Barrett to Duke? Or is this simply a coincidence, and UK still has a shot at landing Barrett?

I don't think it's Cal. I think it is Johnson, he doesn't want to be Barrett's backup. So he is waiting until after Barrett's announcement. If Barrett picks Duke, Johnson picks UK. If Barrett picks UK, Johnson goes to his 2nd choice.

Seems a bit odd that both are so close in time,but the early signing period only runs from 11/8 thru 11/15 so if they intend to sign rather than just announce the window is pretty small

In size they are very much the same player(listed at 6'6" and 6'7") but one is a small forward and the other a 2 guard.If Cal has sold the positionless basketball theory to them well enough then why not.If you add Zion to the mix I don't see all 3 here at all.

This is off-topic, but assuming Barrett goes to Duke I really think Cal will get his big-time reclassifier next spring. Just a hunch.

Exactly! I think Johnson was ready to announce earlier in the week, but then the unclear Barrett situation made him second guess for a moment. Once he received confirmation that Barrett wasn't coming to UK he's ready to announce again. Obviously, like you said, they just want their own day and time to shine.

I think this is a negative pub measure from Cal. Barrett to Duke followed by KJ to soften the blow. This whole class now rests on what Zion will do. I went into this recruiting season thinking we could walk away with 2 or maybe even 3 of the top 5 but now just want 1.

I think Johnson commits to Florida on Friday.......Keyontae that is, Keldon's teammate....maybe he is waiting to allow Keyontae to have his moment.

Good pickup for Mike White...

Makes it look like it's trying to soften sting of losing another great player to Duke . One can only hope. I hope we get both but also remember the days of no chance for either. Great time to be a UK fan.

I’m torn on Barrett. But at this point, i think we get Johnson no matter what Barrett does.

With Cal in charge, you don’t need to worry about recruiting. It will all work out.

I wouldn't read anything into the timing of any of these announcements. Apparently Johnson wanted to go home for his next week but the school wouldn't allow him. So he is announcing Saturday when his family can get to the school.

Not worried at all....the sun will come out tomorrow.....or maybe the next day...no matter UK will still be UK with or without them. They can choose greatness or choose to try to be great... I wish them well... (Just can't stand their influencer's much...)

If UK loses out on Barrett, Zion will make or break the class for sure. Do you guys not think Barrett has any issue with going to the same school as Reddish? I mean they are pretty similar players.

The reality is that KY is pretty set at PG and SG already. Quickly and Alexander alone would be a great backcourt. If Vanderbilt comes back then we are set at the 3 as well. It's not like we need 8 5 stars next year.

Exactly. We could probably start Quade, Quickley, SGA, Gabriel and SKJ next season if worst came to absolute worst. That's not exactly an awful team.

Add Baker, possibly Herro, and a kid like Moses Brown who seems to be ours for the taking, and that's 8 deep with top 75 recruits and lots of returning experience. If that's our doomsday scenario, we're in pretty good shape.

Nothing Barret has been rumored to be going to Duke for a while and Johnson isn't a make it or break it recruit with the potential to return guys at his position and Grimes still on the board. Now if Zion goes Barret and Johnson all three go somewhere else then major melt down
