Pros:
-He's a huge UK fan
-His interviews with the players while playing CATS are great
-His recent Tweets on UK related stuff are great
-Loves Cal
-Pulls for UK to win more than we do. Mentioned last year how 2 weeks later he still wasn't over the UNC loss.
-UK legend
-Drug abuser that overcame

CONS:
-He's a con
-Tweets non-stop about political stuff and very anti Trump
-Tweeted about Cal leaving before an NCAA tourney game (done deal)
-Quick to take shots at fans

He was a hated man for a while, but I think his image is still questionable.

I think you can hold two positions that are simultaneously true.

1. He wanted virtually nothing to do with the program until he had nowhere else to turn and his reemergence is disingenuous at worst, coincidentally suspicious at best.

2. He's really damn good at what he does and offers both humor and unique insight into the game, program, college basketball, etc.

Mixed feelings.

I was a child when Rex played here, so I probably have a romanticized view of his UK days. The Cal to Lakers comment in 2014 was complete and total BS and very disrespectful to his alma mater who was playing for a national title. This pissed me off and I wrote him off for good until I learned of his struggles with drugs after his embarrassing arrest. I've seen drugs ruin and even end the lives of several friends and relatives over the years and tend to forgive the petty stuff and hope the person is able to achieve sobriety before they end up dead or in prison.

I'm happy he's been able to recover from his addiction and hope he stays clean. I've given him a second chance. I got used to him doing the pregame show. I don't like his singing. I do like his commentary on the game of basketball.

I'm OK with Rex, loved his interviews during the CATS games. Seems like he is really trying to make amends with BBN and is all in for UK. Plus, my best golfing buddy is very anti Trump so if I can golf and have a good time with him I guess I can overlook politics from Rex. I'm not a big Trump fan at all myself but way better than the other choice we had so I'm not wanting to make this thread a political issue since I really felt we had two very bad choices in the last election.

In general, I don’t think BBN is an overly forgiving group. As individuals, we have a tremendous capacity to forgive when the offender shows genuine remorse and under circumstances that are personal to each of us.

But collectively, we are some cold m’fers with long memories. ;)

"I'm not a Trump fan, but I can tolerate my buddy hating on Trump."

Bravo. Much tolerance.

I'm guessing you missed my intent. I'm not real pleased with Trump as our president but couldn't stand the thought of Hillary being in office. As a consequence, I chose Trump over Hillary. My buddy is very dead set against Trump and doesn't hide it. Trump, like him or not, is our president and I'm just tired of the bashing he gets. My friendship with my golfing buddy is more important to me than who is president and whether he is all that liked or not. Does that make more sense to you?

I forgave him a long time ago. I have had direct experience with opioid addiction and it will make a dirty liar out of a church deacon.

One of your cons is a big pro for this snowflake! :sunglasses:

You said you didn't like Trump, but you didn't have a problem tolerating your buddy, who also doesn't like Trump. Those were your words, man.

I don't give a flip who you voted for or why, your professed tale of tolerance is laughable. So I laughed.
