Gotcha. Lavar's Dads antics have nothing to do with his low release and shot mechanics. He has however adopted the Dennis Rodman approach that even bad PR is still PR. He ( Lavar) did struggle against stiffer competition and all the talking heads agreed that his game had some big cracks. NBA is a man's league and it doesn't take long to be exposed. That's why I like what Cal says to recruits. He can't hide them at UK.

With that low release he has look for him to be blocked a lot in the NBA.
He did. He went all WWE and guaranteed the Lakers make the playoffs and that he's already got the ROY trophy. They asked if he talked to Magic and he said," why? Lonzo and him have to get along." Paraphrasing but it was said in the context that he's not interfering or being involved in team business. Said it didn't matter if the shots weren't going in and that he was making this teammates better and they were scoring because of him. I think he said the 8 point guy would become a 20 point guy playing with his son or something to that effect. He's insufferable.

Most of us who have confidence in ourselves realize there can sometimes be a fine line between confidence and arrogance. The Ball's crossed that line a long time ago, and have wallowed around the other side. If the kid had just been thankful for his gifts, etc. I think a lot of us would pull for him. But as is we can get a chuckle out of him going 2-13 in a meaningless summer league game.
I wish people would quit putting a microphone in this idiots face or giving him an outlet to speak thru. I couldn't care less what Lavar says. It's like watching pro wrestling.
Ball isn't a bad NBA prospect but his game certainly has some holes as you say. If Ball had been taken by another team late in the 1st round, that could have represented value. So I thought at the time that the Lakers were crazy for taking him near the top of the lottery. This was pretty clearly a bow to local pressure, probably thinking that taking a UCLA kid would help their PR or something like that. Poor strategic planning. There is a reason why the Lakers franchise hasn't been doing well lately.

That's exactly how I feel about his dad too. The media (especially ESPN) keeps that idiot in the news and forcing him at us. On the other hand, we're guilty too, as we post about him on this board and quote his remarks. I guess it's the old theory, negative news sells better than good news stories and that's what ESPN is backing on to boost their failing network.
Unfortunately for Lonzo, his media attention will be linked to his crazy Dad. But the success or failure of Lonzo's NBA career has little or nothing to do with his Dad. It's going to be, can he defend NBA perimeter players, can he score in the lane, can he bury open perimeter shots? If he can do all those things, his Dad is just an annoying sidelight. But if he can't, then the Lakers can't keep him on the floor. As I said earlier, I thought at the time that taking Lonzo so high in the lottery was a stupid pick for the wrong reasons by a flailing franchise.
Still just one summer league game. I'll wait for a larger sample before declaring him a bust.

But attendance in summer league tells a little bit more. Lakers are going to sell out every game for one reason, Lonzo.
Lakers have a way to go, but there is legit hope and excitement now thanks to Lonzo. The gold and purple are back to being culturally relevant and can see some light at the end of the tunnel.
Even more than basketball, LA is about showtime/entertainment. Lonzo/Lavar/BBB have brought that back. The top stories throughout next season are going to be Warriors, Lebron, Lakers/Lonzo/Lavar. They're going to sell out every game. LA was 11th in attendance this past season, you watch that jump into the top 5 or better this year. On the road they will be the big ticket experience kind of like how Lebron and now warriors bump attendance in Milwaukee, Charlotte, etc...
Better buy now, because BBB is only going to sky rocket from here.

Idc about a triple double. That doesn't mean someone played great. He had 11/11/11.. while shooting 5/13 and 4 turnovers. Not that impressive considering the NBA style. Sad part is kuzma played a great game and all the media talks about it lonzo
Lavar is taking the position that press is press, regardless of quality.
The problem is his son has to ADD UP to the press. This isn't like politics where the goal is achieved after the initial win. You're allowed to suck after that.

The Lakers are a lost franchise. They do not have a winning roster. You must be a real fan or a Ball to think that the LA Lakers will be a road attraction in the NBA.

He did have a triple double last night, but still just summer league ball. Fox and Smith Jr. Are playing great too. Tatum is playing great and Josh Jackson seems strong as well. THis class was deep, so Ball has a lot of work to do just to stay even with other highly drafted players. And the lakers are maybe the worst team in the insanely tough West and has a ton of pressure. Fox at least has little pressure and Kings were smart to get a steady vet like HIll to step in at times.
Didn't understand why the Lakers or anyone else would pick him that high. I liked a lot of players picked after him better.
