Nothing wrong with either philosophy.
If Cal wants to be there and the players want him there, then he has the right to be there.
If Roy and K want to leave that moment for the players and their family and everyone is good with that, then they have the right to sit it out.
It's funny how each coach uses the moment to benefit themselves, though.
Cal uses it as a photo op, and recruiting tool. Roy uses the "I'm more honorable than that. It's about the kids and their family, not me" spin to make himself look better than Cal.
Either method is acceptable. All is fair in love, war, and basketball recruiting. Well, except for using chemical or biological weapons, of course.
