The guys Cal tells to leave are very unlikely top 5 picks the following year. In this case, Diallo could make a huge mistake and I truly believe Cal will say come back and let's triple your money. Do not take this huge gamble when you have a chance at 1-5 next season.

Projected in 2nd round when you could be a top 3-5 pick next year?

Surely Cal will recommend the obvious.

Well he told Bam to hire a agent and he is borderline first round. If Bam returned he could of been lottery.

Every case is different. I said it at the time and it's clear to me now, we couldn't afford to have Bam return. It could have easily sent Bamba to Duke next to Carter, and Cal would miss on his type of big. He wasn't going to risk all of that. Bam leaving will pay off for Kentucky later.

Wonder if he recommended Diallo play this year or just ask if he felt like it?

Anyone else read the headline before seeing the op, and think this is a smooth as butter thread? No offense but it looks like something he would start

It seems this year's NBA draft holds more drama for UK fans than usual.Fox and Monk going in the top 10 is not even a sideshow. We have the Diallo daily soap opera, the Bam first round mystery and Briscoe the outsider to occupy our time and thoughts.30 for 30 crank up your cameras there is good stuff going on here

Probably but it doesn't sound like a guy who's likely to be told he needs to return like OP is saying.
It was Calipari playing around with Hami. Kentucky fans take every word or quote and blow them out of proportion. Calipari will do what's best for him. If he thinks he should come back he'll tell him.

Cal will do what is best for Diallo and his family. I think he will stay in the draft.

Lottery goes over top ten
Unless he steps out and starts hitting 3s or close to that range.. I don't see lotto period.. There's just a handful of teams that can utilize what he is.. A big banging body down low to grab boards and dunk.. He could come back next year,, play the same as this year and still be in the same position next year.. He'll def go 1st round this year.. I'm going to say between 23-27..

If you learned anything from watching one and not done is cal will never talk a player into coming back based on the Dejuan Wagner situation, because you never know what could happen. I think cal gives them advice and feedback but he doesn't try to sway them one way or another except for a few guys like Davis, Murray, wall, towns, and even cousins who apparently cal had to force to go to the draft. He truly cares about the players which is why he preaches players first. It's not a slam on ky or any other school he's coached it's putting them and their futures before his success. The problem so many have with this is that this is ky where we are accustomed to winning and the name on the front means so much to us that we forget these kids know who Kentucky is but they don't fully grasp how passionate we are about our team. I think they realize after they have played here and witnessed it first hand. In closing, if we weren't a blue blood and we were a Memphis or a umass nobody would be as pissed when cal says players first because their passion doesn't run as deep as ours for Kentucky basketball

Why would Cal tell Diallo to come back? He's never done that in his life!

Cal will advise a player to come back if it makes sense for them to come back. He won't demand it; I doubt he would even "persuade" them to, in the conventional meaning of the word. He'll just tell them how it is. I think Diallo's situation is one of the few in which, for all the reasons that have been discussed (strong guard draft this year, weak guard draft next year, legitimate lottery potential, but he's being held back by lack of track record and reputation for poor shooting), Cal will advise the player to stay another year.

That doesn't mean Diallo will stay. He's an adult with his own agenda. Some kids struggle with school, others have family financial issues that they want to help with immediately. But there is no doubt in my mind that Cal is telling Hamidou to withdraw unless he gets guarantees from multiple teams to take him at 25 or better.

In the past Cal has advised players to come on back, and they were never heard from again. It's quite sad. He can recruit over you and still care about you. This is the part players don't want to hear.
