People lose their jobs every day. It sucks, but it's part of life.
I got fired from my job washing clubs at Mayfield Golf & Country Club when I was 12, but I didn't cry about it on Twitter. I picked myself up, dusted myself off, and got a job umpiring and keeping score at little league games.

I've got no problem with these guys expressing condolences to their friends or co-workers who got the axe today. But too many of these blowhards are using the layoffs to lament the journalism profession in general and talk about how tragic it is that smart, hardworking people just lost their six-figure job to travel and watch sports. To that point, I know a bunch of laid off coal miners who would like to tell Tucker, Parrish, etc., to eat ****.
Jim Bowden laid off. Never will forget the story of him walking in to the Nationals clubhouse 1st week of the season seeking out 1B Nick Johnson who got hurt on a freak play to tell him he was an enormous pooh-say to his face.

It's okay to acknowledge that losing your job sucks and to feel bad for a group of people who've been laid off and also be able to acknowledge that they can be sanctimonious pricks who take themselves too seriously.

Don't get me wrong, losing a job does suck and is a very traumatic experience but being a sportswriter today is about as useful as fish needing a bicycle. I really think there are two types of jobs in the world. Those that contribute to society by making the world a more comfortable place from pumping gas, to sales, to being a doctor to whatever 98% of us do and the other is maybe not a necessary job but one that brings joy to others like an athlete or an artist. Sports writing has for the most part ceased to be either.
Coal miners can all go f themselves. I've stood firmly on this position since day 1, iyrc.

What sucks is a lot of beat writers and solid reporters are being let go. Danny Kanell is an exception, and he's not horrible.

They can't fire Hill, Smith & their new show, b/c, ummm. Well, they aren't going to fire them, I'm certain of that.
My problem isn't with sports media types being so upset today. These are their colleagues and their friends. Are they a bit over the top with the grief? Maybe, but I get it.
What I hate is the pre-emptive(as best as I can tell) preaching to the Twitter masses that nobody should take joy in people being fired/laid off. It's the same kind of talking down that they did when the Diallo news broke, and it reeks of a smugness that I'm not sure they're self-aware enough to recognize.
I've seen at least a dozen of them lambast people who are supposedly *celebrating* the layoffs/firings. What I haven't seen are people actually *celebrating* the layoffs/firings. I've seen several people comment that ESPN made its own bed(and I'm one of them), but none them are happy that people are now without a job, especially considering that they're getting rid of some really solid people(Jayson Stark, for instance). I'm sure they're out there(they're being retweeted on occasion), but the percentage of those people has to be pretty small.
I just hate when people express outrage over false outrage. It happened a few years ago when Starbucks switched its holiday cups from "Merry Christmas" printed on them to simply solid red cups. I saw tweet after tweet and article after article about how people shouldn't be so outraged over that change. What did I not see? People outraged over that change.
In other words, GGP everybody.

Look, demolition is as hot now as ever. I am absolutely killing it and I need good laborers. All of these sports people are more than welcome to dm me about potential work in the field of tearing **** down. I swear to god I can't hire enough people right now. It really is pretty crazy, though. Add former locals Brian Bennett and CL Brown to the list. Seems like they're basically firing everyone but the talking head/debate/political personalities, aka, all the actual sports writers/journalists.
