Yea Berry torched us, I think he is pretty good, when I read that he was coming back I just shook my head.

I understand the other side of it, but it is what it is. The beast is out of its cage right now. Hopefully we can start hitting the top 5 as hard as we did 5 years ago because that's what we have to have. People laugh at that but I think it's valid. For Cals system to work he's going to need 2 top 5 players from each class AND we need them to live up to the hype; otherwise we are too young and not talented enough to overcome it.

I don't think anyone says you can't win with 3-4 star players. The issue is that you go through lulls of non-competitiveness as these types of players develop (ie uavel), given 5-stars are typically able to complete at a higher level earlier, and thus get drafted based on either their actual results, or potential. And, you are exactly right, with Cal's system, he MUST land top 10 talent, that is legit top 10 talent, and hope that there is no freshman year funk, or chemistry issues, every year. I get that many can't handle the roller coaster but its the reality we have to deal with. I personally like the excitement of new teams every year and look forward to seeing how next year shapes out. I guess not being an all or nothing (NC or bust) type of fan makes that possible.

Absolutely! Smart move on his part to get Roy to increase his benefits.

Let's see, just off the top of my head..........rental car upgrade, mouth guard allowance was doubled, tutors now have to drive to Berry's residence to pick up his plagiarized term paper, can throw weekend parties at Roy's rental home on weekend's, get out of jail free cards in case he gets pulled over with weed and a gun, and lord knows what else.

C'mon Roy, Berry was an instrumental part of winning you another tainted title. Time to pay up bucko!

Yep.

Jury's out on Humphries as he has an intriguing skill set, but I wouldn't bet long pro careers for Briscoe or Bam.

In the Diallo thread, someone said Cal has 6 number 1 recruiting classes in a row. Back in the day, 2 in a row would have had you playing for titles. In Cal's world, 6 in a row is REQUIRED to even stay competitive

Yeah, but to be fair, back in the day, 2 number 1 classes would have only had maybe 2 5-stars, and maybe a 4-star, and would have been paired a mix of of upperclassmen. It wasn't until Cal started bringing in 5 5-star players, that would all potentially go pro after their freshman season, that this changed. His model is always going to be a crap-shoot, given the #1 class next year doesn't equal a #1 class from any other year. I'm OK with that, but it is what it is.
