I just thank God that we don't have to rely on riff-raff like these boys to field a roster every year. We're thankfully WAY above that level.

It's an even bigger deal for KU because of the following. This could be a MASSIVE recruiting coup for Self.

There are two more Lawson brothers -- Chandler and Johnathan. One is a top-25 national recruit in the Class of 2019, the other a top-10 national recruit in the Class of 2021. And their cousin is D.J. Jeffries -- a top-10 national recruit in the Class of 2019.

There's a reason why The Lawson Pipeline is rumored to be even bigger and more controversial than the Keystone XL.

Why does it matter what cal did like 13 years ago? It matters because self does it all the time to get recruits. How do you not see that?
Because I do not keep up with Kansas. I could not tell you much about their team, who the coaches are other than Self, which player's dads coached for them,...
I just find it odd that our fans would criticize it when our coach did/does it.

Also their exit would make it seem like maybe they had been sent packing?

But you keep up with Memphis from over a decade ago??? That's weird

I don't know much them obviously, but from the stats posted above, I feel like Memphis wouldn't be a place that can afford to run off its best players. Would guess they realized they are (skill wise) better than a program and conference like a Memphis and wanted a bigger stage somewhere to get exposure.

Who would they compete with at KU? Can they play next year?

Maybe you know more than me, but pretty sure Kansas did it the one time with Chalmers. Also, didn't the NCAA create a rule awhile back that parents could only be hired in one of the three official "assistant coach" roles from now on? That way schools couldn't create arbitrary positions KU did for Chalmers.

I like the rule. If a school wants to waste a valuable AC spot to land one mercenary recruit (see Washington/Missouri), spending significant resources in the process. Then go for it. I think it's extremely short sighted though and only hurts the program in the long run.

The reason they went KU so quickly was because they offered way more cash than anyone else. Plus they get free reign to terrorize the neighborhood. Every Lawson family member will be paid 6 figures as well.

When you think about the sheer amount of cash spent on referees, it's really surprising that Kansas has any money left over for this kind of acquisition.

The Lawson brothers are attatched to lots of issues including their salesman father. I'm not surprised in the least they went to Kansas. And everyone should chill out. I've seen dozens of Memphis recruits out of this city. The only one that seriously made the impact projected was Thaddeus Young. The rest of them (nick king, Joe Jackson, Austin Nichols, Skal) etc just don't turn into what's they're supposed to. It's been my expierience that the entire city produces some of the most overrated "OAD" Blues of any city in America.

And Self 100% guaranteed made assurances or arrangements with the dad. No way around it. I've known his nephew since I was in college. The Lawson's don't play for free. They will be compensated in some way. Could lead to problems for Kansas down the road.

Milt Wagner had a pretty solid pedigree as a player when he turned to coaching, dare I say much more so than Mr. Chalmers (a high school coach in Anchorage) not to mention his connections to the New York/New Jersey area.
Tony Barbee thought enough of him to keep him on his staff at his next two stops (UTEP and Auburn) AFTER Cal. Comparing apples to oranges I think.

Difference is Cal is at UK not Memphis anymore. He doesn't have to hire a special asst to get recruits here. KU,on the other hand, does. We all know Tubby to be his own dude. That is why the Lawson gang is elsewhere.

Exactly. And besides that, Wagner was a good coach. He stayed with cal for years. It's not even remotely comparable.

I would say WWW is someway a "special assistance" to coach Calipari.
