I had not thought about him even considering leaving, but I read a 2 day old article by Tyler Thompson over on ksr, and she stated in the article that she had no clue what he was going to do in terms of the draft. I thought he was coming back without question.

I have watched several interviews with Hami, some recent, everything he talks about is "getting ready for next year" his new team mates, he is playing for UK next year, done deal. His plan is, get to UK early, get the system down, be ready to go in 2017-2018.

Since the general opinion on this board seems to be players develop better in the nba or NBA-D it sounds like he is better off just going straight to the pros and making money, not wasting his time in college for a year.

He will be the leading scorer of all returning players .
Yea I think he will get around 15 a game, though I expect us to be a really balanced scoring team next year with 5 guys in double figures. I just cant wait until our roster is set so I can look forward to next year.

What good does it do him to stay? If he gets drafted he will be making tons of $$$ and be afforded the time to practice whenever he wants for as long as he wants. Can you imagine the recruiting pitch that provides Cal? "I got a kid drafted who never laced them up for us"

I disagree big time, what good does it do him to stay? Well, it does him millions of good things as in millions of dollars. The draft is much deeper wit guards this year than it will be next year, so he would be drafted much higher next year and thus, make himself many more millions of dollars.

IMO, it does a lot for him to stay. He gets to market himself in a way the D-league cannot. That being, every game he will play in a UK uniform will be nationally televised (well, most of them will be). If he is as good as the hype, he can confirm his placement as a lottery pick.

As for Cal's pitch....see Enes.

I wouldn't be surprised if Diallo entered the draft just to go thru the process to learn exactly what he needs to work on this season at UK

No offense op, but for the!!1,234th time hes not leaving for the draft. If there were any chance at all, he would of played atleast a few mins this yr to showcase some of his talents to NBA scouts since they live at rupp.! I think he really wants to play with his friends bamba and green and try and go out and win numer 9, while here at Kentucky. I'm sure before he committed him and cal talked about him being a half and done. I'm sure in the same conversation he told cal that he fully expected to be around for his first full season playing at Kentucky rather than sitting the bench and helping guys in practice like a basketball version of Rudy. He will be on this team next season and will be our starting sg. I have no doubt in my mind that he will be suiting up for uk and not an nba team. If his plan was to go to the nba after a half semester he would of went to god awful uconn if his intentions were to go to dreaded uconn showcase himself as much as he could then enter the draft.

I like how because if someone posts confidently that they therefore believe they are absolutely correct. We can suppose, or go by what has been stated, but reality is no one knows for sure. He can test the waters, there is no doubt on that. I hope he stays.

If I'm him I'm going to the combine and everything but coming back. That's what he should do.

Draft is loaded this year with guards. Jumping could cost him 10 draft positions or more.
Plus he's not in his best shape, so his stock might fall at Combine.

He's coming back...

I don't usually disagree with you so fully. I think your entire reasoning on this is flawed. First, the NBA is already fully aware of Diallo. They have already let him know the areas he needs to improve on before making the jump to the NBA. Playing this semester, therefore, had no upside with respect to this year's draft. He would certainly be behind on O and D so playing would likely hurt him more than helping.

If he were certain to come back next year, being behind now wouldn't matter. He would have an entire season next year to show who he really is. I see his not playing as a higher likelihood of him leaving this year.

As for UConn, that didn't make any sense to me at all. If he wants better preparation to make the jump, that is accomplished at UK with Cal and top rung players to compete against every day.

I have been convinced since he arrived that he is leaving this year. Lately, though, I've waffled a bit as he is repeatedly saying all the right things. I think it is 50/50, depending entirely on how high he could go this year. I have trouble getting past some of his early statements on doing what is best for his family. I hope he stays but we won't know for quite some time unless he doesn't even test the waters, which is doubtful.

BBFG, so do you think he was being dishonest with Cal, or that Cal brought him in hoping he would change his mind? Seems like you are worrying too much.

If he planned on entering, I'm sure he would have announced it this past week along with everyone else.

Yeah. That would be great. Maybe Cal can get 4/5 guys a year into the league who "never laced them up". After all players first.

If he wants to go first round, then make a roster, then get a second contract, then yes a year or two at UK helps him.

Perhaps, but he also said he and Cal would discuss his options after the season. If it were so cut and dry, what options would there be to discuss?

So tired of this concern. He's staying. It's obvious.
Exactly. This draft is wayyyyy to heavy with elite guards to take a chance on a guy that hasn't even played college yet. Any other year, I could see a little more concern. This year, though, no.

The appropriate response to your question would be to point out the importance of a transition year, both from a mental and physical standpoint. Very few of these kids have the physical tools of a LeBron James. A year in college, going against median-level physicality, seems to help many of these young men.

The college game has its plus side; namely preparing these guys for a higher level in a way won’t force them to the NBA catacombs due to a lack of real immediate physicality. It’s part of the reason virtually none of them have followed the Brandon Jennings/Mudiay/Ferguson route overseas away from better overall systems and comparable talent of the college game.

I love how so many posters are sticking their head in the sand concerning the above statement right out of Diallos mouth when asked about the NBA.

I think he will go through the process but ultimately will return.

He also said he would sit and discuss his options with Cal at the end of the season after being specifically asked about the draft. Seems as if simply ruling that out wouldve been the easiest answer there unless he's leaving that open as a possibility.
