Finally, pour one out for Dominique, Derek, and Mychal.

Living the dream, babe. Each seems like a great kid. Go fourth and prosper.

I'm not sure the way we're doing things (i.e. not telling guys "No, you have to stay") is the optimal way to win titles, but I don't know what works better given the current rules, and as much crap as I throw Cal's way, that next guy does not exist on March 26, 2017. Tonight hurts. But we've got it pretty well.

I've seen probably 150-200 guys play for Kentucky and there isn't one of those guys I would rather have as a teammate than Edrice Adebayo. Best teammate ever. A good team will draft him over a person with more potential because of his character.

I have 4 titles in 31 years. 1996, 1998, 2012 and the 2005 White Sox. Every other time it's either heartbreak like this one or abject disaster like 2013 or any Knicks year. One day I'll figure out the point of doing all of this, but for now, I'll start looking forward to October again like an idiot.

Keep expectations high. Go Big Blue.

SAE: Great post.

My oldest was born in 2007. Had a rough few years there to start but since then she's pretty used to seeing UK make the final four or close more often than not, see some great players she and her brother can follow in the NBA, etc., etc.

I'll take it, all things considered.

Great SAE post and Hank was spot-on for mentioning the character (as far as we can tell) on the kids that we recruit. Several of the "big misses" under Cal have turned out to be guys that we probably wouldn't have wanted to tarnish the program. We probably should have more than the one title under Cal, but we end up pissed off in years like this primarily because most of these guys leave after one year... to make a ton of money. At the end of the day, we can't blame them one damn bit.

This line Cal feeds about it really being about "them" isn't just a line. Truth be told, the number of banners are about us. It sucks when they leave, but they bust their *** for an adoring fan base and then they leave for a life-changing amount of money to play basketball... which is what any of us would do if we were in the same position.

It sucks when we lose... but we're Kentucky and our rightful place is in the arena.

The one lesson everyone should take from this:

If you're going to cheat at something, go big. And when you get caught, lie your *** off and be as sanctimonious as possible.

Title game last year, FF (at least) this year.

Cheaters always win.

Funny, the quote on the side of the page you linked says:

Almanac of Theodore Roosevelt
11 hrs
"I do not like the thief, big or little; I do not like him in business and I do not like him in politics; but I dislike him most when, to shield himself from the effects of his wrong-doing, he claims that, after all, he is a 'religious man'."

********

Perfectly appropriate for today's opponent.

And another thing. To hell with this guy, his stupid name, and the way he thinks.

These rules have been in place for almost a decade now and yet there's still this issue of purity. Sick of pro sports not being an admirable enough profession for student-athletes according to these Springsteen-loving sportswriter dinks. I know that guy was a Springsteen fan because it was in his bio.

If I could play basketball like De'Aaron Fox, I wouldn't have gone into sports information at a Division III school.

I am in favor of letting talented people maximize their earning potential. Even if they happen to be young and athletic.

Clearly, the "right way" is to downplay their options and then funnel them through classes designed not to challenge them or teach them, but rather keep them "eligible" by an arbitrary set of standards as to benefit a bunch of argyle-wearing, fake-title-counting, sanctimonious ******** who think that THAT is doing them a favor (when really, that's pretty damn close to the definition of "using" kids.)

Between
-The amateur hour officiating in the first half
-Taking the lead down the stretch and having the game in our hands, then seeing them take it back
-Nailing a HUGE shot to seemingly steal new life, only to immediately have them gut us with the answer at the (near) buzzer...

That game had elements of Duke '92, Wisconsin '15, and every SEC West road game screw job ever. It was like an appetizer sampler of the history of the worst of Kentucky basketball losses.

This is making the rounds but haven't seen it here:

Kentucky has played Unc 4 times in the NCAAT now. Previous years were 1977, 1995 and 2011. You can figure out what happened the following year.

As much as I would like to completely lay the blame of this loss on Higgins and his crew, I can't. Despite all the **** calls foul trouble we had a 5-point lead with 5 to play and let a GD zone rattle us.

But we're all blessed to be Kentucky fans tonight. We have the best coach and the best young men representing our state university. Proud of Dom, Willis, Hump, Fox, Bam, Monk and the rest. We got a tough draw, a tough whistle, and they needed all of it and a fluke night and shot to beat us. Hate to lose, especially to a completely unethical, morally bankrupt university getting a pass by the NCAA.

We'll reload and be very good next year, and we'll do it with solid young men and a coaching staff that will have us ready for another deep run.

And I appreciate all of you for being the narrative for this ride every damn year.

As SAE eluded to, for some reason, this loss feels more "genuine," and the first loss in a while that made me draw tears. 2015 was shock, 2014 was house money, 2011 was the Final 4 drought breaker, and 2010 was a feeling of "we're back." The post-game locker room vid of Bam and Fox had me cutting onions. This was a great "team," and it was awesome to see them celebrate their teammates' success when one of them would step up. To sum up, that loss was a kick in the dick.

We got railroaded. Plain & simple. Over the back on Bam? Bam got hacked on every entry pass.
Loose ball foul on Willis?

This one hurts more than '15 for some reason.

One guy I'm really going to miss is Briscoe.

As I reflect, he kind of got screwed both years in the sense of showing off his draft stock by having to share a backcourt with some absolute legends. (If anyone says a bad word about Ulis, I'll cut them.)

Through it all, he always brought it and you never, ever had to worry about him taking a night off. His problem was being too motivated and driven and attempting things he could not do. Give me a big heaping helping of that attitude every time.

I have no idea what happened with his shot, which sucks. With a shot, he's almost unstoppable.

That little bastard regularly fought and won against people half a foot taller than him. That's just toughness and if I ever go to war, he's coming with me (after a stern talking to.)

Love that guy and hope it all works out for him. I'd love to see him back to run point for a year where he is the chosen one, but that ain't happening.

He's deadly with the ball and he's one of those people that no one wants to fight, ever.

We lost. They were better than us last night.

They're cheating, sanctimonious ******** who defrauded young black kids through (ironically enough) an African-American Studies program and still claim piety. We still lost to a team that's pretty damn good after our guys fought through adversity and gave it all.

Ain't no shame in it.

What really hurts is that if we won that game, the title was there. The other 3 teams in the F4 are good, but they weren't beating this team. Not on their first time on that stage.

Now looking forward, when's the next time we'll be equipped like this to win it all? We'll be talented next year, but we have no upperclassmen and no shooters and no Kentucky kids. History says you need those things to win championships. And nothing to look really forward to in sports until the first football game. 159 days from now.

This really sucks.
