What's up with these IU fans? They are ticked off at this hire, do they think they are Kentucky or something?

Most of you UK fans are nuts. IU is a better job than UK. All thing are the same except there's always a ton of great high school talent that comes out of Indiana where there is very little that comes out of Kentucky. IU finally has a coach now that kids will want to play for. Give Archie a few years and IU will be one of the top teams year in and year out. The problem with IU the last 25 years wasn't IU...it was the administration making bad hires. This time though they got it right, and Indiana will be back where they belong in the next two or three years.

We take who we want out of Indiana.

That's not changing.

I like Cal. He's a decent coach and great recruiter. I'm not a hater UK has a great program, all I'm saying is all IU has needed to be great again is the right coach and I believe they hired the right guy.

Archie just has to get some of it, not all. And I wouldn't count your eggs before they catch. Archie is definitely the kind of guy that kids will want to play for. I'm sure his recruiting classes after this first one will be nothing but 4 and 5 star guys. And unlike Crean he actually knows what to do with it.

It may very well change. Miller can recruit Indiana and the MidWest. He can also coach, something Crean failed at. I do not want to face an Indiana team in 3 yrs with the tough nosed defense this guy teaches. If Indiana gets relatively talented players, and I have no reason to believe they won't, then Miller will be very successful at Indiana. They really are a sleeping giant, their administration has just managed to keep the sleeping pills coming........................until now I'm afraid.

I do too, but coming to the UK board and saying IU is a better job than UK when we are in the elite 8 and you guys are in the NIT is just stupid, but I think you already knew that you just got a tad emotional.

And answer me this. I don't think he's going anywhere but if Cal left for the NBA. Who would you want UK to hire?

Its been long discussed on this board, but I believe the top front runners in ppls minds are Billy D, Brad Stevens, some like Sean Miller(not me), K.P could take over and run the ship. The homerun hire would be Brad Stevens though

No I've just read too many comments on here that make it sound like IU has no chance of being a great program again. The only difference is when UK makes a bad coaching hire or it's just time to move on they quickly fix their mistake or move on. We held onto Clappy the clown for 9 long years! The man couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag! I wanted Archie all through this wait and they finally got it right and got a great young coach. I hope IU and UK start playing again too. I've read on here where your fans actually think every IU fan acts like a fool when they play. I mean come on all fan bases have their morons. Anyways, good luck against UNC. I think your boys will have a mental let down after last night and lose a close game but who knows. You do have the most talented team so it's basically a coin flip.

Brad Steven's and Donovan are grand slam hires. I think a guy like Archie is a home run hire. You may get Donovan but Steven's would never go to UK. He would never go there

Typical Hooiser. Living in the damn past.

We are UK. We are a national program. With the invention of this thing called the airplane, we don't have to recruit only Kentucky. The plane can fly our coach to other states to find players. If you Hoosiers would understand you're allowed to recruit outside of Indiana, you might be more successful on the recruiting trail.

And you really believe a dinosaur program living in the 70s and irrelevant since the early 90s is a better job than the program - since its beginning - that innovates. sets standards and has racked up more wins than anyone in the history of the sport?

I think Miller can do well there. He also can fail. We saw it here with BCG. I'm curious to see how it plays out.

In 4 posts you have informed us you are an ex-IU fan, predicted UNC to win the tourney, called IU a sleeping giant and now telling us how scared you are of the Hoosiers...

Not sure you're a good fit here...

Feel free to jump back on the candy stripe bandwagon.

He was being facetious, and making fun of delusional IU fans who thought they had a shot at Donovan. Pretty close to zero % chance Stevens ever coaches in college again, and not much better for Donovan.

Haha how am I living in the past? I wanted and we got the best young coach out there. Archie will grab the best recruits available regardless of where they are from, but if you can't even recruit your state well how in the world could you recruit nationally? That's why I put emphasis on the in state talent that comes out of Indiana.
UK is the best program currently in CBB. I'm not delusional I get that. All I'm saying is that now that IU finally has the right guy in place they will be right there with you in a few years.
I'm not here to fight with you, I've said what I wanted to say. I fired hard on Kansas and Xavier so I'm going back to watching. I'll be back in a few years to tell you all I told you so when IU is in the final four.

Who has Archie recruited?

I think he is a solid coach and decent hire.

But has he had any Top 20 classes?

You are moron. A clown. An idiot. The IU job is a turd stuck on the bottom of a shoe compared to the UK job. UK recruits nationally Einstein. IU is has been, a dinosaur of a era that ended 30 years ago. You also play in a worthless, ******** of a gym that isn't fit for YMCA ball. Go crawl back in your hole.

If Donovan wanted to go back to college I'm sure he would have left for IU and of course I wanted h but I didn't get my hopes up. I got the guy I had next on my list though. And yes some of the fans that really thought we were going to get Steven's were delusional. That was just never going to happen no matter how badly we all wanted it. I actually know a guy whose wife is friends with his. Yeah, he's not coming back to CBB anytime soon if ever that's for sure.

thanks for saying that up front so I didn't bother reading the rest of it.
OK, so maybe I shouldn't have started it that way. My point is the only difference between the two schools is you've had good coaches for the most part the last 20 years and IU not so much. I truly believe they got it right this time though. If he doesn't get it done then I'll come back here in 5 years and admit it and say ok IU is no longer a great program. I don't think I'm going to have to do that though. The sleeping giant opened his eyes today.

I think Archie's a great hire but as someone who studied in Bloomington he better have success quick because fan expectations there are going to crush him if he doesn't.

I honestly hope Miller does bring IU back into the conversation. Alot can go right or wrong in 7 years

Steven's wife apparently said that's one reason he didn't want to go to IU. Plus he likes guys that are going to stick around for a while and fan bases like ours wouldn't like that much.

At least glass was smart enough to realize how polarizing a figure Alford is.

Some fans may not be thrilled with Miller but he's considered an up and coming coach.

Still - to be in the position where you still owed Crean $4m - Glass shouldn't have a job

IU basketball is made up of the period from 1975 to 1987. Outside of that period of time, before and after, IU is a good program at best. At best. And since 2002, you can argue it's a total dumpster fire.

I don't think it would take much for them to be second tier. But Blueblood status is something else all together. Tough to overcome an entire generation of mediocrity.

20 years?

We have had good coaches for 85 of the last 87 years...

One bad coach and fired after 2 seasons.

Hell, even our coach that was fired under a dark cloud back in the 80's has 3 FF's , 2 AP Coach of the Year awards, and multiple championships in 4 different conferences.

You guys have had one good coach for 29 years who was an immature, abusive prick that couldn't get out of the first weekend of the tourney his last 8 years or so...

The divide between UK and IU is much greater than you want it to be...

They should be happy with it. 15 years since a final four, and really 1993 since their last relevancy.

I think this dude is a decent coach and about as good of a hire IU could have hoped for at this stage of their Crean coached years. How they let Crean stay as long as IU coach always confuses me. It really shouldn't take the people in the know at IU to figure out the dude can't coach basketball at a high level. I don't think Miller will have them back in the blue blood conversation anytime soon. To do that, I feel like you have to be one of the top 5 coaches in college basketball. Miller is a good coach and should have IU making the NCAA tourney every single year. To do that at a school like IU, it doesn't take an elite coach. Just middle of the pack in conference type of hire. The funny thing is, IU fans actually believed Billy D was IU's next coach. We all knew that wasn't happening. The fact that IU fans thought it was possible is just a lot of wishful thinking on their part. IU fans, for the future, know you're not hiring a good coach from the NBA.
