Does anyone have a solution to the cats defense problems ? This team should be able to play defense well . We are quick and athletic . Making a soft kid into a hard nosed tough minded aggressive kid may not be possible . It could come down to we just don't have a killer instinct .

Tell the big men to not follow their man out to the perimeter when a ball screen is being set. (no higher than the free throw line) They may get an open perimeter shot but its better than straight line drives and layups. I'll play the percentages on the outside.
Cal says the guards are leaving the bigs on an island. Well, I'm saying don't go on vacation.

Defense isn't just something you can do with effort. As you can see with Briscoe, he's not a very good defender but his motor is high. He's giving effort, and still struggles.

Defense is no different than being talented at something like shooting. You can improve but if it isn't your talent then it isn't your talent.

This team doesn't have great defenders. None of them.

How can a team ranked 13th in defensive efficiency not have any good defenders?

Bring in a big that can cover-up when we run the guards off the three point line would be the most help.

Other than that the only help would be to give a step and try to stay in front of the dribble. Cal likes to really apply pressure on the perimeter and if you get beat you have to have a big erasing or altering shots. With a 30 second shot clock, I'm not sure if it's as important to pressure that far out if you continuously get beat.

Ummm this thread is misplaced. Our D lately has been really good . Now our O on the other hand hasn't. Its like when we learned to play D well we forgot how to play O.

Since LSU we have turned in these performances
Bama - 45% ( and before the last 5 minutes they were shooting 36%) / 21% from 3 / out rebounded them by 3 / 6 blocks / 7 steals
UT - 35%/19% from 3 / outrebounded them by 8 / 7 blocks /7 steals
The UGA game was a mixed bag as we held them to 34% in the first half but the 2nd our D fell off with Briscoe mostly on the bench so they shot 50% from the game / 20 % from 3 / outrebounded them by 15!!!/ 2 steals / 4 blocks
Mizzou - 36% / 18% from 3 / outrebounded them by 13 / 5 steals / 3 blocks
SO our D has been really good with the exception of the 2nd half against UGA. So our D isn't our problem it is our O and that looked great against UT ( the lone home game ) . I suspect our O looks good the next 2 games and then looks like crap at A&M and we have to scrap and claw to win that game.
