Do they cut down the nets today for participating?
I don't think so...I think CTC (GREATEST IU COACH OF ALL-TIME) wants to get his players attention and get them focused on this years team goals..

Would Alford leave UCLA to come home to IU and try to be the one to resurrect the program? Serious question, what do you all think?

I think he's got a good thing going at UCLA, and he already has Lonzo Balls' two younger brothers locked up. But, if IU opens the bank up it may be difficult for him to turn it down.
Plus, not everyone get's the chance to not only be a legend as a player, but to then return and bring your old program back to glory.

I really think Indiana will get it right this time...unfortunately. They have everything in place to make it happen. A large apathetic fan base looking for a savior, a brand to sell and excellent recruiting grounds.

Also there are a few guys that fit their culture and desire out there too. Stevens, Donovan, Marshall and Bennett all would be natural fits and they will open the wallet and dig in and the next coach will come out of that group and be a huge get and story, as well as instant credibility.

Just enjoy these waining moments of 20 years of Hoosier futility.

I don't think money will be a major factor. If he and his family aren't happy in LA, it might be his ticket out of there. Fan support is weak out there and the media are brutal. But, he has had a great year and has some talent locked up so we shall see.

He is truly the gift that keeps on giving. He is the face of IU basketball. In fact, Tom Crean is IU basketball, representative of a clown show going on 30 years and counting. IU would never recover if Clappy is canned.
I just wish he would wear those candy strip warm up pants!! Go Cats!!

Zero chance Stevens goes there. Zero. He has turned Boston around and they are a solid playoff team. Donovan isn't going there either. Now Greg Marshall is a possibility and would be a great choice.

Could not disagree more. What draws players to IU? Candy striped warm ups? Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan and Ohio State are all better Big Ten Programs in the lifetimes of current recruits.

Kids today do not see IU as anything special.

I was absolutely disgusted last year when we lost to them. Now I'm glad it happened. We weren't going to win it all and I keep believing that win will keep clappy around. I pray every day that they keep him, such a perfect fit

You really don't see Bennett either. Could be wrong though. I do see Miller being another attractive candidate.

We could easily triple Bennett's salary. $7-8M will be very doable. I know you guys hate IU but it's still one of the top 5-6 jobs in college basketball. We have an enormous fanbase, elite facilities and resources, and the best in state recruiting in the country. Our basketball program had more profit than either Duke or UK last season. Pretty amazing considering we haven't won a title in 30 years.

Assembly Hall is not an elite facility. It's an outdated dump. IU also won't pay that much for a coach even if they could.

Elite jobs

UNC
Duke
KU
UK

Then IU ahead of the field?

Arizona better.
Michigan State better.
UConn remains to be seen
Syracuse?
Louisville?
Wisconsin?
Ohio State?
UCLA?

IU fans are living in the past.

Pat Forde said last year that it's a better job than Louisville. And we all know he has a massive hard on for Louisville.

I think UK, Kansas and Indiana are the 3 most desirable jobs in the country. It just means more to those fanbases than the others. UNC and Duke soon after. UCLA is on the list just because we've been told, and convinced, they matter. Very few in their own city know when they play or give a crap when they do.

I preface this by saying "I" think.

Kentucky
UNC
Duke
Kansas
UCLA
Indiana

I'm aware that this is the common list with a few arguments to be made in the 2-5 spots.

If I were Alford, I would go. He might be building something at UCLA but he may not ever have more leverage than he does now to land a mega deal/long term contract.

All he has to do is drop a hint that he'd consider coaching at IU, and their AD is in a no win situation with the fans

That said, I don't see anyone returning IU to their former glory

There is a contingent of our fan base that want to hire him. I'm so serious.
They must really really love football if they want to destroy what little you all have in basketball.

I honestly think Georgia could be a sleeper job with the right guy. The right personality that could tap into the available talent within close proximity could do wonders.
