The "Cincinnati" Airport can't even make up its mind where to call home so I'm going to cut my Midwestern, spaghetti-in-their-chili loving friends some slack, OK?

With Malik Monk, we're about to find out. Over the last decade-plus of draft prospects—hundreds and hundreds of players—the Kentucky shooting guard stands out as genuinely unique. He's a volcanic offensive force, seemingly put on this Earth to get buckets, a 6-foot-3 scorer averaging 22.4 points per game on a 63 percent true-shooting percentage, one of five high-major guards to put up such numbers in the last 25 years of college hoops.

Streaky AF

Funny thing is, is these writer geeks typically LOVE the True Shooting % stat, they reference it all the time...

Just not with elite athlete shooters I guess.

That's about as good of a scouting article as you'll ever read, btw. Extremely interesting, and Venecie is a great Twitter follow.

That guy is probably good enough to get a job with a team as some sort of front office stat geek. I'd say that would pay better than his current gig, but those guys are pretty much anonymous. He probably likes his minor internet sports celebrity status.

I have never once claimed Cincinnati even in Europe when asked where in America I was from but it was the reference point used to explain wtf Erlanger is because no one at UK seemed to know except the geography department which had a world map hanging on the wall of their offices in POT with Erlanger Ky on it completely blowing my mind.

Even at UK, I always went with "Northern Kentucky" because nobody knows where Union, Ky. is. Except at UK I would usually get bitched at because apparently it's offensive to lump Northern Kentucky together (?) and it would inevitably turn into "Oh, where's Union? Just south of Florence? FLORENCE Y'ALL!" and then I'd want to murder someone.

But never Cincinnati (except for reference). I'm not from Ohio.

Patriots opened -110 to call 'heads' in the Super Bowl coin toss...

...and it's been steamed to -1300 in the past 24 hours, lol.

Also, this is pretty incredible as well.

...and if you're into trends:

Jeff Pearlman did a story on SBB over the summer, plugged it online for a few days and then nothing was ever published... he responded with something like "People who dont want to be found shouldnt be" or something like that.

A couple of people who wrote with him on the site mentioned that they dont even know what happened. Said he was deteriorating mentally a bit then just disappeared.

I've been fascinated with it for some reason though.

Kevin Knox Sr. is a great and straight forward interview. Hopefully somehow Cal pulls this one off.

Cats Illustrated: When you look at UK's 2017 class, is that a positive or negative for Knox? There's a lot of talent but there's a few wings committed.

Kevin Knox Sr.: If you look at it there's nobody, and I'm not trying to be mean, but there's no one in the class that does what Kevin does. For us, when you're the lead dog, you're not looking behind us. At the end of the day, when you look at the top 10 guys there's only two guys in my opinion that are rebounders that turn into guards, shooting wings, shooting guards and that's Kevin and Michael Porter.

I don't see other guys doing those things that are in the top 10. Calipari told us that they played different positions and they do play different positions. If anyone does their homework and watch the Nike EYBL then you would basically say that I'm right and they are different type of athletes. P.J. Washington and Jarred Vanderbilt are not Kevin Knox. So much so that Calipari is telling us to watch Malik Monk. That's the mold that they see from Knox, a guy like Monk. A guy that can shoot and dynamic in transition, but also he can defend. But Kevin is 6'9". No disrespect to the other guys but Kevin is a different type of player.

Funny because Vecenie was one of the gafs who was still calling him streaky 10 games in...

Glad he gets it, now.

-Don't mess with penguins. Feisty.

Huge fan of penguins, notwithstanding their GYERO reputation. Grabbed this shot outside Capetown a couple of years ago.

I'm more referring to those 6-7 side to side dribbles for 5 seconds and fade away 25 footer (settling) when he's felt he hasn't gotten one off in a bit.

Yep. When Monk goes straight up on his shot, he's prob close to 60% from 3. Absolute textbook form, elevation, release, etc. However, when he tries to emulate Kobe with the fade away, often w/ leg-kick, I'd guess he's at about 15%.

You misspelled "Nike Shox"

Was shocked I didn't catch hell when I showed up to GEL-LEX last year wearing my 5 year old pair of Shox.

In college:

Person: Hey, where are you from?

Me: The Arby's rest stop.

Person: Cool, I know where that's at. Always wanted to stop in there.

Chase, what's the word with that place? They going to reopen, and if so, who?

To be fair, he WAS in HS..and 10 games isn't much of a sample size. I guess you could argue 20 isn't either...but I think it is, at least when you've watched EVERY game beginning to end as we have.

Good read on Westbrook. What an odd fella.

Before games, Westbrook always eats a peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich, and it must be prepared just so: bread cut on a diagonal, fillings spread very thin. (In Oklahoma, the team chefs know exactly how to do it, but on the road Westbrook can’t trust anyone, so he makes it himself.) Three hours before tipoff, Westbrook warms up; at T-minus-60 minutes he goes to chapel. When the pregame countdown clock hits precisely 6:17 — never a second more or less — Westbrook leaps off the Thunder’s bench and screams, “Two lines,” initiating the team’s final layup drill. I asked Westbrook if there was some kind of numerology behind this — a June 17 birthday, a favorite Bible verse. “No particular reason,” he said. “I just do it. Nothing special.”

*****

Through 41 games, the official halfway point of the season, Russell Westbrook was actually doing it: He was averaging a triple-double — 30.7 points, 10.5 assists, and 10.7 rebounds. Stat-heads calculated that, if you adjusted Westbrook’s numbers to reflect the pace of the Oscar Robertson era, they would look like nothing we’ve ever seen in the history of anything: nearly 50 points, 17 rebounds, 17 assists.

Why can't NKY folk just be like regular Kentuckians and say what county they're from?*

*Minus, people from Lexington/Louisville.

- Hey, I'm from unincorporated (Florence-adjacent) Boone County but said "Florence," at UK and was thanked more than once for not saying "Northern Kentucky" like some tallest midget *******.

(Newsflash: We're all here attending a state school in a poor state, so let's drop the big timing attempts during intro's, Tad. - I don't care if you're Pennyroyal, Knobs, or any of the other regions that seemed like they were vital knowledge for all Kentuckians when I had to make that poster in elementary school.)

My favorite was asking what town someone was from and them offering a county instead. "Oh, you wouldn't know my town." Newsflash: I was just being polite, and only know about eight counties: The nearby ones I played sports a lot in and the ones along the drive to Lexington. Thanks for playing, Mr. McCreary. (Edit: Breaking Newsflash : I took a break while posting and did not see Rogue's county comment above.)

- I'm pretty psyched to find out that BRAX and I are Eski-'rento brothers and, Newsflash: my birthday is June 17 like Westbrook's, so it looks like catching up on the last page first has paid off again.

Maxx: Newsflash: My CPO 2016 AWD V6 Sorento is sparkly baby-**** beige, like the rest of them and, at this rate, Newsflash ---> it seems like I'll now be buying a tank of gas every two months or so, so that's good.

- Interviewed with a Democratic firm today...didn't go well. Think they only had me in to ridicule me for working for the GOP. Got pretty contentious...Kind of odd considering they called me unsolicited and asked if I would be interested in hearing them out.

- The Sports by Brooks thing fascinates me as well, sounds like it's mental health. Still want to know what happened.

- Been craving Graeter's.

- Disappointed in the fried chicken shell taco.

- Pro penguin.

- And now Josh Jackson is under criminal investigation at KU...

The players of interest in the case are Josh Jackson and Lagerald Vick. Investigators have recently interviewed several people who witnessed the reported crime, which occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 9 outside a bar. A police report categorizes the $2,991 in damage to the car as a felony.

Police were called to a parking lot near the Yacht Club on Wisconsin Street just before 2 a.m., according to the report. Officers spoke with the victim, who is the same female student a KU investigation found Vick likely hit in the arm multiple times and kicked in the face in late 2015. A phone number for that student has been disconnected and an attorney for the family has not returned multiple phone calls for comment.

If half the **** that's happened in Lawrence had happened here there would be a tent city of sports writers outside Memorial.

Wtf is wrong with Goodman? Dude is in studio tonight on ESPN looking like he woke up in his suit, hasn't shaved his neck hair in months and is wearing this clip on looking necktie.

Good grief. You know he makes decent coin. Clean yourself up.
