We have one option left to help make run

I think we need to slow things down. Maybe we are playing too fast against some teams. When I watched the game back, it seemed like we tried to rush everything on the offensive end especially in the 2nd half.

Willis needs to be getting most of Gabriel's mins. Briscoe needs to lose mins, either to Hawkins or Mulder (when he gets healthy again). But here's the bad part...none of that is going to happen. Briscoe and Gabriel are Cal's guys and are gonna play no matter what. I heard a reporter last night ask Cal about what he thought about the way Willis played against Kansas and all he said was Willis needs to start rebounding and hustling more. I couldn't believe he said that. If not for Willis, we get blown out.

I would rather see a 4 guard line up and run the hell out of teams.

The problem with taking Briscoe out, or limiting his minutes is that it kills his chances to go to the league. He returned for a sophomore year remember? With the talent coming in next season he won't be able to shine then either. And remember, the most important thing is getting him to the league.

This is where I think Cal has himself hand-cuffed. In another thread I argued that Hawkins is a better all-around player than Briscoe. And I'm quite confident in that assessment. Fans think Briscoe is better because he always plays, but is that actually what you see when you watch them? I can cite mistake after mistake that Briscoe makes. Can't find one that Hawkins makes. Yet Briscoe is out there game after game. Why?

The reason is because Cal feels like he owes him. How would it look for Briscoe to stay and not play as much? "Coach I stayed for you and now you don't play me?" Cal's not going to do that. He's going to ride him out and the team be damned.

Players first program.

Briscoe has the longest leash of any player of the Cal Era.

KU goes zone and he pulls 4 for 4 3pt Willis for Briscoe. Willis gets beat off the dribble, he's instantly pulled. Briscoe beat off the dribble the very next play and nothing. I'll never understand it for any other reasons besides what you just stated.

The time to play skj and let him work thru mistakes is past. Too raw.

I would play Willis and WG together and zone. Quickness out front and length on the wings. Will never happen.
The time to play and develop SKJ was when we were winning games by 30. Instead of bringing him along and giving him 10-12 minutes a game, he came in with and sometimes after the walkons.

I have said since last year Both teams could not reach their potential with Briscoe at the 3.

We will be fine by March, if everyone is healthy. We are a young, Freshmen led team and we were missing a key player off the bench.

It's the end of January, we do this pretty much every year about this time. We drop a few games and the sky is falling. So and so is out of position, so and so should play more, we need more shooters, we can't guard anybody. It's typical with Freshmen. We will be a lot better in March. It's Cal's M.O.

Just relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy the ride.

I agree that the three guard line up is not working. Our guards are giving up way too much on defense, and two of them struggle to score from outside, which is making our offense difficult. I thought Willis and Gabriel together might be the answer, but Gabriel has disappeared on both ends of the court the last few games. At this point I don't know what the right answer is. Cal gets paid a lot of money though, so I'll let him sort it out.
I tend to agree with this. Right now we start three guards and two of them can't shoot. That's going to be a problem when attaking a zone. There really isn't any way to scheme around that. Unfortunately, I'm not sure there's a better option for us. Hopefully Cal can figure it out.

Should we insert Dom into the lineup? Play the 4 guards and Bam? May cut down on some of the straight line drives we are giving up. Press with that group more aggressively? Seemed to give KU some problems last night when we went to that late. Also I know it's just instinctive for Bam and Wenyen to go for the block on the guard penetration but that has to stop. On at least 2 occasions last night, I think each one of them went for the block on a guy who was being pretty well challenged already and Kansas ended up with the easy putback. Neither of them got anywhere close to blocking or even altering the shot.

hump
Adebayo
Willis
Monk
Fox/briscoe

This garbage with briscoe at the 3 has to stop. I say we go big and disrupt teams using hump and adebayo simultaneous. I know what you say "hump sux" but I believe if he and adebayo were on the floor at the same time adebayo would make hump better bc he will draw the double team and if not he can go strong. Willis at the three gives us even more size and a guy on the floor who can consistently shoot in addition to monk. Icebrewology or whatever his name is is right on about bam being a 4. I say get him and Willis into their natural spots and quit trying to appease briscoe

You must really dislike Willis. To put him up against the 3's at this level is brutal punishment

Basically, we have a team without an identity. We do nothing consistently and defense is atrocious. We've been categorized as a 'running team' but, the smart teams that we've lost to dictate the pace. Honestly, I don't know who or what we are.

It is hard to run when teams make shots. When our defense sucks, they make shots.

Is this a joke? When we slowed it down it allowed Kansas to set up its zone and beat us.

Humphries is terrible. But some of the Briscoe bashing is odd since in 24 minutes he had 12 pts, 8 rebounds and 6 assists...
